Gotta love the internet sometimes friends!:gtpflag:

OT - I sure hope GT Sport isn't delayed all the way to the end of 2017. Issues and all, I still love the series.

I think a lot of us still love the series; it's why we all like to talk about it so much.

I'm just glad I get to play all these other games as well. Back during the long wait between GT3 and GT4, I was finishing up high school and starting university. I didn't have the money to buy myself other games, much less other systems, but even if I would have, there weren't nearly as many quality options as there are now.

Also, I'd just like to say it brings a smile to my face to read this:

I guess I have never looked at GTPlanet strictly as a Gran Turismo website.

Not because we're planning on cutting back on GT coverage — we most certainly are not! — but because it shows the expansion into covering other titles has paid off. I think a certain ad campaign for a certain game summed it up most succinctly: We love cars! :D

Oh that is a good point. Maybe Sony told them that not calling their next GT a true "GT7" instead of a "lesser" GT is not acceptable if they delay the game. There may also have been some problems with the FIA or Esports or whatever. The GT Sport that exists for now may just be a place-holder until the big announcement much later in 2017.
Random thought, maybe FIA changed their mind about Esports after FRC? Despite plenty of prizes including a sports car it only got like 25k playing the open events (leagues and time trials) at best.

Maybe both FIA and Sony saw how little interest there was in FRC and how many people seem generally unhappy with the single player experience as well as content.

I don't think the FIA really cares much about how the game does. I've always been under the impression it's a licensing deal no different than when they have had Senna, Top Gear or Goodwood. All they really care about is if the check clears and they're not doing anything to hurt their image.

25k is also fairly impressive for any game that's been out nearly a year considering how fast people move from game to game.

At least Sony is letting us know about it and has cancelled our pre-orders:

View attachment 581163

Basically says that they are thankful for you/us pre-ordering GTS, that the game has been delayed, and that you/we have got a confirmation E-Mail about the cancelled pre-order. Also states that as soon as proper product information is available, the game will be able to pre-order again and that they are very sorry for any unpleasentness.
Didn't get one

Is the staff aware that when you are on the GTPlanet home page, the tab in the browser says "Covering the World of Gran
Turismo".

With a showcase of most major titles maybe it should say "Covering the World of Sim-Racing" or something like that.

I was so hyped by the Playstation Meeting knowing GT will be there... I guess Driveclub VR was a sign of GT delay. Sony America considers GT an old grandpa with zero reliability, thus no trailer at E3 conf and I suppose at the PS meeting.

I think that's down to an increase in qualitative racing games all round, so more choice and sales being evenly spread out.
The monopoly has disappeared in a way and that's a good thing.

Yeah, but they're all pretty similar. Just forza is a classic console racing game.

Early access games are a clear sign of the business getting smaller

@mister dog It's a fact, there is a downward trend with car games. Where are Ridge Racer, Burnout, Sega Rally, NFS...? I agree the sim racing games are strong nowadays but not in terms of sells. Even Forza 6 which is the most polished racing game so far is not a huge seller.

I imgine FH3 will sell a lot, it looks so fun but with a touch of depth.

Let's look at what is widely regarded as the most popular GT game: GT3 which sold 14 million copies.
At the time it was released in 2001 everyone and his mother owned a PS2. There were already 10 racing games available, but 6 of them can be regarded as arcade + you had Ferrari challenge and 2 F1 games:

At the time GTS will be released (when pigs fly), you will have the following true competitors which focus on a certain degree of realism or car collecting which is what GT offers (arcade racers and F1 games excluded):

FM5
FH2
FM6
FH3
PCARS
AC
Driveclub

If all these games sell between 2 and 4 million, you easily come up with the number GT3 sold which didn't have the fierce competition. So in other words i think it spread out the sales more evenly.

From this same thread 10 pages back.

We do cover the world of Gran Turismo though. Won't find many outlets publicizing that a single car appeared in a random off-screen photo of GT Sport - never mind 300 words on that singular subject.

Hell, some outlets didn't even report the massive delay.

Our choice of covering multiple games/sims is not a dilution of our Gran Turismo coverage.

Apart from Forza (which is not available on PlayStation) I can't see a single car-collecting simarcade game in that list.

I'd would include Dirt Rally in that list since GTS is supposed to have some sort of offroad mode (which I seriously doubt will be nearly as good as Dirt Rally).

I'm disappointed GTsport will no longer be released in early November 2016 as promised. And God alone knows when it will be released in 2017.
I was so looking forward to the November 2016 release I took the opportunity to purchase a PS4 about a month ago just so that when it was expected to be released as promised I would have already had the PS4 from which to play, only then to buy the GTsport disc. It's a real bummer to be honest this further delay after so much waiting and anticipation....and now having to wait an inordinate length of time.

FS7

I don't think that would be 100% fair since, while GTS will have rallying, it's not the main focus of the game.

I think it would be. They wanted to dabble, and whether they choose to make it a full fledged rally game or not is on them. That they only slightly implemented it shouldn't be a reason to not compare it to other games with a similar nature.

I agree, in which case throw Seb Loeb Rally into the mix as well.

But, but...

So with both rally titles added to the list, that's 9 titles that cover at least some aspects of what we know of GT Sport. If it doesn't launch until Autumn 2017, you can add at least one more title.

If anything, that just proves this is the golden age of console driving games. :D

I think there is also a good chance we'll see a tarmac based racer of some sort from Codies next year, new GRID or whatever they go for.

Seeing how brilliant Codemasters are with the AI and overall game design, they should definitely step into the simulation/arcade-sim territory. They will destroy everything else that exists, and aim to bring this genre the power and might of GT4 era

Ever since the first Toca Race Drivers they've straddled the line between sim and arcade, sometimes going further one way than the other. The last one, Autosport, swung back towards the sim side so hopefully the next one stays around that area.

But this isn't the thread for this, obviously.
