I get the impression that GTS stands apart as the game for people that just love cars. It's not so much about the racing - it's about the cars. Okay, we've got the FIA stuff but there's not been anywhere near the amount of focus I would've expected. There's so much information included on the manufacturers and the history of them all.

Project CARS 2 seems more about the racing experience. Live Track 3.0, e.t.c. GTS is just car porn with some racing on the side! :)

Final Fantasy VII put sprites on pre-rendered backgrounds twenty years ago. NFS put players' personal cars in cut scenes two years ago.

Scapes are visually impressive, no doubt. But they do have limits compared to the traditional Photo Travel locations of previous games. That said, I do think about how technology could further evolve in the next dozen years, to the point that we could use something similar to put our in-game cars in just about any real-world location we could snap a picture of.

It'll be massively easier for people to claim they own whatever car they want. We're going to need a lot of tins of beans.
I can already see a Bush's Baked Beans livery!

Oh come on!

Scapes appears to be a technical masterpiece that I've never seen before in any game (and it's in addition to the never-bettered photomode), and you compare it to Final Fantasy VII??

Dear lord!

Congratulations on missing the point.

I'm providing a time line. I don't see you taking issue with the NFS mention, which took a broadly similar approach to this sort of thing (but didn't integrate it with photomode, sadly). I don't doubt that the technology behind Scapes will continue to advance, eventually offering players the amount of freedom that PS3-era Photo Travel locations did in terms of camera placement — without PD needing to invest all of the time in modelling. But for now, Scapes do have certain setbacks compared to that approach.

Oh I got your point very clearly, and your point is still silly.

Look at the 3D cliff in the latest trailer and come back to me.

NFS is a good call but is it the same tech? IIRC it was the actors acting infront of a green screen and the car was still rendered in a game background. Not sure though.

I really need to ask, shouldn't PD use some of the newer LMP1 cars? The 908 HDi FAP is a decade old.

They "should" do a lot of things...

Would love to see the 919 and TS050. I'm sure Microsoft is standing in the way of the Porsche, but the Toyota? Don't see why that car can't make it in.

I'm trying to do one of the current seasonal events on GT6 for my nephew on his account, and I've noticed something. After playing GT Sport beta I can't get to grips with GT6 anymore. No matter what I do with settings, the cars just feel like they're sliding on glass and every little tiny bump and road imperfection upsets the stability in a huge way. I wonder how I ever managed before.

I can't wait for GT Sport to release, 'cause GT6 is virtually unplayable for me now. I didn't realize the jump in physics until I went back. A whole new appreciation for PD's work from me now.

edit- Fifteen minutes later, and yeah... I quit. I can't make a decent lap for the life of me.

Totally agree. A major part they should be focusing on is real world cars and tracks.

What does PD do? VGT's, race versions of cars in classes that don't exist and fictional tracks.

GT Sport is sending a lot of mixed signals. In one way it promotes to be the FIA Racing Game of racinggames and on the other side all we see that it is being pretty. I find it great that GT Sport has finally found its releasedate but the franchise feels lost and seems to have no clue what direction to take.

The cars are fine and I like them but one worrying factor is the tracks. 17 locations with 28 layouts isn't a lot. From those tracks there are a few new ones which leave a lot to be desired for and the excisting ones we all have driven to death in GT4, GT5 and GT6.

Photomode is second to none although others seem to be catching up and are only lacking in the scapes technology. I eventually pick up GT Sport purely for photomode and certain cars but it won't be day one.

All 3 big titles have started their PR machines and I would be very surprised if GT Sport comes out on top.

Actually Microsoft is not standing in the way of the Porsche imo.Anyone can add whatever Porsche car they want if they pay the amount of money Porsche wants.

Kind like when I went back to play GT5 after playing so much of GT6. GT5 feel a lot less "active" in terms of controller feedback and the cars seem to understeer a lot. I could still play it, but GT6 just felt better to me.

WHAAAAATTT
This is my most expected feature! TBH, if the custom races features is good, I will barely play sport mode.
From the Japanese website (thanks google translate) : "The arcade where you can enjoy racing with AI and time trial is more fulfilling. A custom race that allows you to enjoy unlimited rule settings has been added."

How long will we have to wait till we see a official trophy list ?
I hope they don't have any over the top online trophies. Even though some may find it pointless, I'm one who really cares about collecting platinums for my favorite games. Online trophies have kept me from achieving some of them, such as Driver on the PS3.

Regarding the extension of Daily Race hosting hours and Fuel Economy Races

INFORMATION

Thank you for your participation in the Closed Beta Test.

The hosting hours of the Daily Races on Friday, July 14 will be extended as follows

US -> 7/14 18:00 - 24:00 PDT
*From race start on Saturday to the last day of the test, the daily races will be constantly open.

In addition, for 3 days starting July 14 to the final day of the Closed Beta Test on the 16th, ‘Race C’ will be a Fuel Economy Race.

This will be an event in which if you do not adjust the fuel map on the MFD during the race, you will run out of gas and have a difficult time completing the race.

The number of laps in these races will be higher than for standard races; please try it out!

Thank you for your continued cooperation in the Closed Beta Test.

This should be fun.

I'm seriously wondering how do people wihout wheels even adjust that Fuel Map on this "MFD"?

Tried out the first race (GR.4 at Nurburgring) and I couldn't even change the Fuel Map (it was stuck to 1) but despite a slower moron backing me into some idiots that can't use the brake to save their life, I managed to finish top 10. Now if I wasn't punished so much for being the guy that people choose to use as brake..

You think he's mad? I think he's mad. Clearly, pointing out that Polyphony have come up with a technique that, while well implemented and visually stunning, is not wholly revolutionary and artistically unique, is a crime.

I motion that we hereby expel @SlipZtrEm from GTPlanet for the crime of heresy, to be carried out by firing him out of a cannon. Into the sun.

Arcade and lobby
"Custom races allow you to set your own rules"
?!!!
http://www.gran-turismo.com/us/products/gtsport/

I'm wondering about this too.

Yeah... that looks very interesting, "set your own rules". How many rules can we set? I wonder if we get control over opponents as well. It'd be cool to set up an STI v. EVO series. I spent -0- time in acrade on past GT games, but it looks like I will be sinking lots of hours in it this time around.

*side note: how cool would it be if we could start a lobby with 4 friends (or however many) and fill the rest of the grid out with A.I. drivers?

Is that Arcade Mode in which we can just pick any car (stock with stock colors of course) and race? Is it the fabled mode I've been waiting for so long in a GT game?

If it follows past GT games, they'll give you the keys to a few cars, but a very limited selection. Especially considering the reduced car count.

It looks to be going for the everything for everybody approach. I actually like it because I can't play more than one sim at one time (it's kind of like trying to be invested in 2 different RPGs at the same time). I can already tell that GT is going to consume a huge part of my free time in a way that no game has since I played Skyrim. They are slowly peeling back layers of the game, and I'm getting more and more excited with each layer.

The cars are fine and I like them but one worrying factor is the tracks. 17 locations with 28 layouts isn't a lot.

Agree, and I'm curious to see how quickly they are able to add cars/tracks now that they won't have to work on adding features that they previously promised. The fact that Kaz stated their goal is to ship a complete and finished product at day one bodes well for additional content. If we get 3-5 tracks, 25 cars per year, that would satisfy me.

The fuel management is in effect only for the "Race C" races.
The first one tonight was the N300 race at Dragon Trail.

So did the actual fuel races and here's how those went:

Dragon Trail: 1st race was a abit of a surprise as I kinda wasn't paying attention until the guy ahead of me in 2nd ran out (in which case I crapped myself internally ) and with just the tiniest bit of fuel managed to cross the line. Did the same in the second race, only I managed to actually win it after the leader ran out and his 33 second lead just completely disappeared.

Willow Springs: First race I actually managed to past 3rd place coming out of the final corner and ran out of fuel just before I crossed the line  Second race was when I finally figured out the Fuel map so I did the first two laps on full power, then went to 3 for the rest of the way before turning it back to full power for the final lap and finished 8th.

Did I mention I pulled all but one of these finishes with the Fuel map on 1? I don't remember being this good at saving fuel ever

I was reffering to not being able to change the fuel Map (which I later found I actually had to map the up and down arrows on the D-Pad).

Nothing against Scapes, it's a cool feature that should live next to the classic photomode locations. Though, the intensive use of scapes in the trailers is for me the next step of bullshots. We know here at GTPlanet that all these amazing roads are scapes but for the average Joe, I think this must be misleading when a car moves on a road. I don't like it. One is actually drivable, the other is a photo.
