You can totally disagree all you like mate. Watch Destiny PvP or COD PvP fights on Youtube. Notice what pops up on screen when you do something. Show me a Gran Turismo, Pro Cars or Assetto Corso online race that does the same. That is a micro win.
People already blame the hud, even the timer tagheuer, so having these pop up i don't think it s welcoming, pehaps at the scoring screen
And personally I don't like it, there is on racing game like Burnout, it s quite boring

I think that is a great point! Isn't it enough that in racing we get constant "on screen" notifications when ever we start another lap, what is our starting position, what is our current position, whenever we overtake someone, whenever someone (sometimes us) gets fastest lap during the race... whenever our SR rating changes... and i guess more then i can remember at the moment.

Having even more on screen would be hated by majority of players, imo.

Regarding on screen notifications during match/race: In fps matches others usually are notified ONLY of your kills/getting killed (until end of match) only i can see on my screen majority of my fps micro wins.
Unlike in racing where it's quite oposite. And that is far superior. Imo

That's a fair point. I'd like to see proper mini objectives. Stuff like finishing above your starting position, leading laps, etc get rewarded with credits. I still feel that these things reward the player mentally.
Exactly.

It's not the only area that racing title differ from shooters, but it is one that it could learn from.

Fps also dont give you money/stuff for majority prevously mentioned "microwins"...
Yes they do. Some in the form of challenges that unlock other items, some in the form of working towards in-game currency to use and almost all of them in the form of a points total for that round that allows you to purchase items.

From Battlefield to COD, R6 Siege to Titanfall they do it.

Regarding the amout of times they do i still recon its about same on both fronts. Even more in case of championships, because of greater picture (future races in that championship and relationships with same players you are going to drive in that).
I disagree it's not even remotely close to the same degree, it's never been fully engineered into a racing title.

I would 100% agree that it should be able to be visually disabled in the HUD, if that's what the individual wants.

Personally I run with the HUD off in both AC and PCars, using UDP apps instead.

However I'm not looking at this from my personal point of view, but rather from what might attract the 90%.

Did you fully got what I wrote? Passive digs?
So you didn't say:

"We are grown up men, not spoiled kids that start crying and quit when we are not up to pace. No one of us is obsessed with winning."

OK.

SR did attempt it in the beta, however as many who took part will attest, it wasn't always seen as either fair or well done.

Not only was SR too easy to gain, DR was flawed as well in my opinion. AFAICT, it scored you mainly on finish position, making it relative to those you were racing, rather than absolute. There were times when I started, say, 9th in a skilled field, gained a few places, yet still had a DR loss at the end. So that just reinforces the "winning is everything" mentality. Overtakes are an obvious micro-win that could be scored, but even holding your position can be an achievement depending on the opponents.

It's a demonstration of one of the reasons FPS work online whereas race games have such a small online take up. Constant reward for deeds done vs nothing. Not something that could or should be added to a race game.

I don't see why not.

As long as they are relevant to the genre and the alerts in HUD can be switched off they could help.

Areas such as holding off an opponent cleanly, clean passes, good start reactions, hitting apex's, etc.

It's far superior in racing which is why the online numbers for racing games are so high. Except they aren't. You can spin it any way you like but there are millions upon millions of GT fans who are used to winning just about every race, where winning was practically required for quick progression through the game. There has never been any incentive to have a good battle for 6th or 10th because the AI sucked and the financial penalty for not winning was so severe. You're talking about trying to change the mindset of millions of players to enjoy finishing in 6th or 10th or 14th in the hopes they might get lucky and not only find someone their speed, but who also has enough car control to allow for some good side by side racing and that the enjoyment of that side by side action exceeds the feeling of loss by only capturing 14th place money, which, if it follows GT tradition, is likely to be very paltry. Paltry winnings in a game that relies on a game economy to progress, will be a massive disincentive for most players, regardless of how good the racing action is.

IMO this is one of the areas where some other games have an advantage. Getting all cars in the beginning and not having a game economy is a huge advantage for any game that wishes to encourage online racing. You take away the whole game economy element and it's much, much easier to actually enjoy racing for position because your finishing position doesn't affect your ability to pad your garage or upgrade your cars at all. The game economy is a huge detriment to encouraging competitive online racing. If anyone doubts this, take a look at the quality of racing that was commonly found in Quick Match races.

Now that I think about it - Shift had something similar. Hitting apex's and so on. It worked in one player. I don't know if it worked online.

I think you are right, I do recall that as well, I think it might have just been offline, but that's the kind of thing.

Well chaps, I managed to play what I think was the latest build of GT Sport at the national motoring show (South African Festival of Motoring) yesterday. Sadly I wasn't able to take videos or pictures because the hostess managing the PS4 stands was already hollarising at me to not take pics or videos because I wasn't allowed and because it was the beta.... She hasn't seen the internet lately it seems.... It didn't help also that I had a DSLR hanging from a lanyard and a GoPro strapped to my head. So I couldn't sneak anything, even with my phone. Due to serious time mismanagement at the event , I did only one race. My mate also eeked in one too.

So I'll share my opinions in 3 sections here.

Listen to this song to enhance your reading experience:

Track: Dragon Trail
Weapon of Choice: Toyota GT86 (Pre-Facelift)
Time: 17h00
Light Conditions: Dusk
Event Type: Single Race, Arcade
Ai Difficulty: Professional

Presentation.

I have no idea if Sony was using HDR TVs or not but wow the colours for the game really popped compared to the beta I played at home. Judging by the condition of the controllers and console version used, these were older PS stands I believe so they could have been preHDR TVs. The main UI menus were crisp and clean with the scapes doing the duties. You can tell the game is close to final, it played smoothly and I didn't encounter anything stupid to affect performance. It definitely feels like a GT Game in this regard. The wheel rotation animation is better than the PS3 titles and the polishing stage is happening.

Driving and racing.

TCS off, Assists off, lock, stock and barrel except ABS (I'm no perfect man in that respect.). Sports tyres on deck (During the loading screen, upclose I saw PD's attention to detail. PD is quite lovely, the tyre markings as well as tread look as though they're real PD brand tyres. Where can I get a set of comfort softs?) I was using the DS4, sadly there were no wheels on show but how the game handles on DS4 is quite important to me. (No wheel because social economic disparity.) The 86 did feel lively and it was a pleasure to actually powerslide and pull Scandi flicks. The cars do feel a bit weightier and livelier compared to the Beta, this is me comparing the 86 to the Subaru STI and Lancer road cars of which I drove the most during the beta. If anything the handling reminds me of Enthusia in a way but a more modern representation. Mind you I've been jamming Enthusia for the past week with a G27. Some fun can be had with the racing here.

On Pro difficulty I got my bum handed to me and came 10th. It wasn't so much a "Catch the rabbit affair" from what I gather when I got serious. You have to keep up, even with me hooning about. With AI Behaviour, I won't write off as great immediately, I think I needed more time to be honest, so I can't give a verdict there. Do they still behave like cows and sheep on wheels and think of you as a fox on the chase? That remains to be seen.

Sounds.

Guys. I like how the GT86 sounds. The Interior, nice. The Exterior in both roof and chase cam, nice. It sounds like the 86s I've heard on Youtube, the track and skidpans. The gear change noise has been retained nicely too. The Gear change sounds from what I remember have bettered. Despite me plugging me earphones (Proper Sony In Ears) into the controller, the Sounds have IMPROVED. Compared to the Beta they're polishing them up like I say.

My mate drove the VW G7 GTI prior to me trying out the GT86. Get this, before we jammed GTSport, we had a ride-along in the new G7.5 GTI on track which had a lovely growl in the interior. GTSport got that right with the GTI. Sadly there's no DSG farts which left me feeling a bit meh.

Conclusion.

GTSport this time was a pleasure to play despite my time with it being short and all. The improvements from the public beta are clear now. What's really holding me back from buying this game though is the Career/GTLife mode and other tidbits besides the livery editor etc. Kaz says GTSport gonna be bigger than previous GT's but I'm struggling to believe that in a few of GTSport's departments to be perfectly honest with you all. The game really is nice to play, don't get me wrong but with such a lacklustre career and lack of other content muscle right now I'm honestly holding back a bit. I'm considering putting my thoughts of this current dilemma in video form.

Thanks for reading, lemme head back into my cave of silence.

That kind of "micro-wins" are usually for arcade games, like DriveClub or PGR, or simarcade, more than for sims. The same happens with the shooters, in games like COD, Destiny, Battlefield, Overwatch, etc, they reward you for allmost every thing, however in shooter more in the sim side like Arma, PUBG and such, you only get money or points for killing players and that's it, nothing like killing strikes and all that.

Yep, but those kills are still micro-wins, your not just getting a reward for being number one at the end.

I've never argued that outliers don't exist in this regard with shooters, rather that if sims want to attract more on-line players then maybe its an area they should explore.

I agree, certainly you don't want lots of HUD activity and noise while you're racing, it would make it arcadey. But I think there are ways to do it, even in a more serious sim, in ways that are fitting - podium screen rather than winner's screen, fastest lap acknowledged on the final results screen, DR score based on multiple stats* which are made visible to you. Just those could give a lot more people a sense of accomplishment after a race, and not seem out of place in a serious sim.

* e.g. positions gained (cleanly), lap time consistency, racing line accuracy, etc.

We're about 2 months till release and we haven't heard a new Daiki Kasho song. Blasphemy.
Well, we had "AL1VE" debuting with GT6's Gamescom trailer, and there was no such trailer this year for GTS.

I'd say wait for TGS. We'll probably hear a new song there.

(Either that, or Daiki is not in this game at all, despite having an armada of his old stuff in the beta... @Shirrako?)

The old stuff is there but I need something new. Upon hearing that GT6 trailer -- I couldn't wait to hear the full version of AL1VE.

About DLC Scapes: (google translate)

https://japan.cnet.com/article/35104942/2/

Q: In this work, it is stated that the required hard disk capacity is 60 Gbytes or more. Although it seems that there is also a fight with the capacity of Blu - ray Disc when it comes to the title so far.

A: It is true so. For example, photos in Scope has HDR and RGB each 32 bit information, yet has spatial information. So the data capacity per photo is as much as a few hundred megabytes. At the time of release date we prepared about 1000 locations, but since we did not enter all the discs, we had the format to download as necessary. I think that it is not technically impossible to say that it is technically impossible, but in the present era, it seems that the form that you download to one as you download it as needed is more convenient for the user I will.

Uh oh. Hope that means a huge download.

Full podium rather than sole winner would be a nice change from what I've seen so far of GTS, a small thing to make a big difference.

Could make choice of racing suit and helmet livery more compelling also...

Download scapes as you go. I think that's a good way to go about it, or even the best way to do it, seeing as how much space all 1,000 scapes will occupy. It isn't necessary. It's like the videos that come with the Vision GT cars in GT6. There's no option to not download the videos. Which reminds me, I really gotta watch the Infiniti video. The description to that VGT is interesting and made me feel good. Infiniti nailed it. The inspiration behind their concept is satisfactory!

@Scaff The micro wins are there though. An overtake or a better lap time or increasing your SR are still mini objectives during the race.
This can definitely give people an incentive to go faster or drive cleaner, if it's implemented fairly and correctly.

Yet people shouldn't apply the offline mentality to an online race because you need to be prepared for defeat. I gather that some people are unaware of the reality and that detracts from the racing quality.

Sorta sucks for people on limited internet though. Optional install is a good idea, but if it doesn't fit on the game disc I'd rather they included a second disc of Scapes data in the box for people to install from. Forcing large downloads to use a feature seems like it'll frustrate more than a few people.

I mean, I have decent internet for Australia and if I want to try a few Scapes that means I have to download a couple of gigs of data? From Sony's servers that's not a quick download. Even from Steam that'd be at least 5-10 minutes, and from PSN I'd expect more like half an hour. It's really going to interrupt the opportunity to browse through the Scapes and experiment if you have to spend a minute or two downloading each one.

Add to that the fact that 200MB times 1000 locations is 200GB, and it's going to be largely impossible for anyone to keep all the Scapes on their hard drive if they want to also play other games. It feels like another feature that seems cool but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Polyphony won't have the same experience as the users in this case, they'll have the Scapes pre-installed or coming over gigabit ethernet from the server in the next room. I predict that users are going to find this aspect of Scapes somewhere between frustrating and game-breaking, because for some this will mean that they can't really use the Scapes in any moderately fluid fashion.

From what I've read and seen so far I'll be sticking with Driveclub, with all the challenges still coming thick and fast and the replay value of all the DLC packs and tours, it's a game I play every day and still love, with probably the best tracks out of any racer I've ever played, it's still stunning to look at too.. just my humble opinion of course

How can you compere these games, playing Druveclub also every day and aftrr GT Sport ill still play it because they are diffrent games! ;)

We shall see. There's no way I'm downloading even 1/4 of them. I'll spend most of my time improving on taking good pictures rather than using as many scapes as possible.

As an example, I didn't use half of the cars (I'll say half of 700? unique cars) in GT5/6. It'll irritate me more than anything if I tried to use as many scapes as possible. It'll be a waste of time; time better used learning how to capture good images.
