Gran Turismo Sport: General Discussion

As a long time Gran Turismo fan, I am getting concerned about the series. Although GT Sport is coming out (in Beta), other games are just moving ahead at full speed on the PC, Xbox and PS. I hope Gran Turismo Sport is substantial enough to make me want to get the PS4 and others as well. I also hope Gran Turismo Sport transcends Gran Turismo 6 and improves upon many things including car sounds.

Oh boy, this is why GTSport needed to be at PSX. Nobody is talking about it. I'm being hyperbolic abit there but I'm getting worried.

Its very, very obvious to see why.

Despite racing games popularity, not just GT mind you, it will never beat games like one listed. FPS, World building games, Open World, etc. And it does like that since the early times. I mean just look at the Twitch or some sort.

Though tbh, i have no idea about Scalebound.

I'm just going to point out the fallacy of that poll with the fact that Mass Effect: Andromeda is on there twice.
Isn't MCVUK reputable?

But that's in Europe and it is Granturismo not just any other racing game.

UK retailers. Funny to see The Division so high comparatively, it has been delayed a couple of times and we've only seen one area basically. Maybe they trust Ubisoft stuff?

And geez... GTS will have an open free beta, for Kaz knows how long til release. At the most desperate point, Sony can even Singstar it and force-load it on all consoles for all they care.

It's a placeholder. No one releases games at that time of the year.

Someone should one year, just for two reasons:

1. So they can say ha, not a placeholder this time, fooled ya!
2. To see how badly it performs in sales owing to such a stupid release date.

Nah youre ok. Just check the thread next time :)
Welcome :)

Thanks, next time I'll make sure to check everything before posting.
Well something in general you've learned, if any media (Game/Blu-Ray/Music) has a release date of December 30th or 31st it's a placeholder while they wait for the real date. :)
To be completely honest, I never knew that, now I know for future reference.

That's a fantastic way to kill the franchise.

Realistically, has GT ever been a game that's been talked about in the same sentence as the other games on that list? Even before PSX, Nobody outside the sim racing channels talked about GT Sport after PGW so its unrealistic to expect GT to ever be THAT relevant to the masses.

Of course it has, a GT year has always been a pretty big year. at the very least it should be just under Horizon Zero Dawn.

I still think that even if the next GT game will have a more motorsport focus, marekting wise GT7 is much much better.

Really? I hardly ever see GT get such a huge mention.

If we're talking about GT6 then I agree, but I remember GT5 being talked about a lot more than GTS is currently. plus the game won't sell close to 10 million if no body was talking about it.

10 million

...Sorry but I'm quoting you because your post's going to be above mine. It's convenient for me, see.

This number gets bandied about often, and is used as some sort of validation of GT5 being a success. What I want to know is, can anyone actually break down this number?

For instance, I'm quite certain a lot of those GT5 sales must've come from being packed in with new PS3s. How many were digital downloads? What was the average selling price?

...Or am I thinking too much on some PR bull dust?

All count for lifetime sales, bundles, digital downloads etc.

I don't think nowadays any 'standard' racing game will get into a list like this. Outside of the dedicated fans, most people who play semi-sim/sim games just buy them whenever they release/get a price-drop. It's practically impossible for the general public to get hyped about hyper realism now since most games are aiming for that and racing games were typically used as a showcase for that type of thing.

I've never seen any breakdown on that information. Likely kept pretty close to the vest by the gaming companies for marketing and other reasons.

Agree with your point but that's the thing GT6 aside, Granturismo has always been the exception to the rule. It's the King of racing games not because it's the best racing game, but it's by far the biggest (MK withstanding).

100% agree, I still think GT will sell the pants off anything else that combats it but in terms of generating hype before release now, it's a bit of a tough thing to predict.

What could GT Sport do to legitimately excite the majority of gamers?
