Considering the publisher's own interests (extending well beyond the scope of the sole game) a slight discrepancy in the wording isn’t all surprising. Sooner or later we will find out how things turn out.

And yes, there are a lot of qualifiers you can tag the timeframe (ab)used wording: confusing, loose, imprecise, opportunistic, cunning, ...insert your flavor..., but over isn’t just one of them.

The developer's timeframe for the open beta is four days from being over. Unless they're planning on springing it on the consumers totally blind on the 30th of April I think we can say that they missed that one.

I would imagine the options of releasing a game to the public would be in the publisher’s hands, specifically when it is internally developed. Could be wrong of course.

At least we should get News (inclusive information about the number of tracks as GT Facebook told me) before June!

Probably. How odd then that the developer is giving different dates for release than the publisher. Who to believe? The developer, who has the actual product in their hands and the most information about the development process? Or the publisher, who ultimately holds the whip handle?

Remember, we know what happens when these two clash. We've seen it before, the publisher wins and the game gets pushed out at whichever state of development it happens to be at. And we get something like GT5 1.0, which could be described kindly as a bit of a mess.

In this particular case the publisher is seemingly giving the developer some room…extra polishing time maybe? By the way I don't remember any date being pulled for the release date, only a few terms open to interpretation...

Oh come on. They missed it. And they haven't said why or given any other info. Total fail in my book.

Also, if @Zlork is right, and we do get info before June, why so close to E3? Seems like a real informational feck-up to me. From everyone - Sony and PD.

Based on the last decade I unfortunately do not share your confidence (not that it will be a big issue - given that I will have more than enough sims to keep me occupied should GTS not meet its stated goals).

I see what you're saying, I really do. But I can't share your GT apathy. I've played DC and PCars and will play AC and DR, but you know, even after all that, I'm way more interested in the next GT. It's kinda irrational, but I suspect I may not be the only one.

For me, it's the FIA tie-in, and the supposed big change of direction, the leaner, meaner structure. No racing game has tried that, and I think it's a winning idea. So these delays and silences are testing my patience, big time.

I fail to extract an irrevocable deadline from PD's evasive wording. On the other hand Sony's timeframe is a finite one.

Again, semantics. A weird situation in which you're completely correct, yet so am I :)
Also, PD are Sony's (main?) 1st party studio, so it's essentially the same thing.

Both a good and bad position to be in I suspect.

Given that we have had almost no firm details of exactly what it will look like I'm not sure what we can expect at all.

What we know is that it will have a Nation and Manufacturers cup as part of its structure (neither of which is a new idea from a packaging point of view), that it will have a spectator view of some kind (again not new) and that the winners will get presented at the FIA award ceremony (arguably not new as the FIA are running a eSport competition tied into a race series, of which the winner will crowned at an FIA event - something that also highlights that FIA affiliation alone does not make a sim).

Aside from that we have the normal 'blue skies' claims taht we have had befoer......

"The graphics, sound and physics engine will be the most realistic ever experienced in a driving simulator thanks to the new platform and the new technologies, but that alone would be a too obvious improvement: the way driving games are played will also undergo a huge revolution with “Gran Turismo SPORT”. This is a vision that invokes the rebirth of motorsports."

...yet we have nothing at all to support any of these claims. Even after we remove the marketing fluff from that, we are left with a claim that it will have the most realistic graphics, sounds and physics of any sim, on any platform!

Sorry but that a set of claims (base on any GT title) that I have serious doubts they will achieve, they set the bench mark for those on the Playstation (but not all platforms) and from the PS2 days onward arguably didn't hit the benchmark for all three even on console. Now we are to believe that they will pull it out of the bag on all three regardless of platform.

Just a note on that, as I posted a few pages back it seems the people who wrote that on the GT site left out a key part of what Kaz/Translator San actually said, which was far less boastful -

As you'd expect with the move to PS4, the graphics, the physics engine and audio, they're all going to improve dramatically, and it's certain to be the most realistic driving simulator of all the Gran Turismo series to date.

And the text on the US GT Site reads similar to what Kaz actually said:

"That Gran Turismo SPORT will feature highly evolved graphics and sound quality, not to mention a totally revamped physics engine,
should come as no surprise. The true beauty of Gran Turismo SPORT goes much deeper, as it will forever change
the way driving games are seen. It will redefine the very definition of “gaming” and “motorsports.”

But surely people will pick the version that fits the most for ranting later on...

Yeah, I can't argue with this.

It's certainly more in hope than expectation (a situation created by PD and Sony's unwillingness to communicate).

Actually I pick the one that google sends me to when I search for it from the UK; so rather than cry foul, remember that I'm not the one putting these claims in the public domain!

But do explain the logic of why, I as a consumer, should be expected to gather information from three separate Sony/PD websites (for the same game) and then compare and contrast them to a Japanese to English translation to find out which one is accurate?

As I find it rather odd that people get accused of bias for using Sony and PD as a source for information about a first party Sony title developed by PD, who else is supposed to be supplying accurate information on GT?

That Sony and PD can't align a common marketing position for a Sony product doesn't lie at any door other than Sony and PDs, no matter how much you seem to want to use it as a tool to cry foul.

You were doing well until that line bro! Resist the urge ;)

Anyways, trying to stay positive - I can almost smell the GTS news, it's so close!

I remember when some users were certain March was the month. It seems it's always been just around the corner. Personally I gave up waiting a while ago, I'm still expecting nothing until E3 and a full on re-reveal.

I was probably one of those users, to be fair.
I'm still genuinely excited at the thought of a PS4 GT title, it's kinda embarrassing, haha.

And after all the genuine PR incompetence surrounding it too.

GT PR is going really well as long as we, bunch of dudes, talk about it and speculating and waiting for some news or actual game. They make silence about em, but when it comes out, GTplanet will explode. ;)

It seems to be that only the asian and north american GT sites include the quote you mentioned.
