One of those days when you wish you were in the UK!

Can't wait to hear everyone's impressions. Will there be a separate 'holy crap I'm at the GT launch event, look at this!' thread...?

Also from the ticket page, look like everyone in attendance gets a sweet goodie bag.

Well jeal....

Again: viva GT Planet

:gtpflag:

Out of interest, will this be the first time the two GTPlanet admins finally meet in person?

Anyway looking forward to it. Amazing to have a GTPlanet ticket to go to first public GT SPORT playable event. PDI and GTPlanet having a party with cars designed for GT on show. Is this reality? Thanks to all involved in making this happen.

The whole event isn't being streamed, just a few minutes on the first day to show a trailer.

The stream last 2 hours and 15 minutes?

Confused now, as the official PlayStation blog entry by Kazunori Yamauchi says this...

"Hello GT fans! We’re thrilled to announce that on 19th May we’ll be streaming brand-new GT Sport footage from an exclusive London event, and sharing new details about the latest entry in Polyphony Digital's acclaimed racing series. Not only that, but we’ll also be streaming Pre-Season Test of FIA Gran Turismo Championship Cups – the Nations Cup Pre-Season Test and the Manufacturer Fan Cup Pre-Season Test."

Maybe it isn't all being streamed live, but it certainly seems as though there will be official footage of the actual eSports portion available...

Based on the phrasing of this, I expect them to stream more or less for the entire two hours and fifteen minutes.

Whew, I thought I wasn't going to get any tickets since I started work at 8, just so happened to be the time the tickets were released :nervous:
But it's okay, there's still 25 left on Eventbrite as of midday so hurry and grab them quick folks!

To the people who are going, can you please focus on how the physics have improved? I really don't care about all the other features, but if the physics are still same ol' GT then the series is buried and finished for me.

Also if you can, ask Kaz whether he has played any of the new generation sims (e.g. AC, PCARS, Dirt Rally) and what does he think of the physics and how it compares to GT.

Yeah I misread Jordan's post, still it's definitely not streaming the whole two days.
I expect that there will be a lot of shakycam footage ending up on YouTube though. I hope the open testing on the Sunday means there'll be a chance to do some offline racing, and try out all the available cars. Really interested to see what they've done with the AI and sound, two of the biggest bugbears spoiling GT6. When you just hotlap in a Premium car with the sound off and your music turned up... it's still a pretty swell game. It can't stay like that forever though. It needs to be an accomplished racing game, as well as a driving game.

Oh yeah for sure, there will be a lot of footage coming out from fans, indeed I hope the version they have running on the pods allows us to see most of the key elements of the game.

We also need to make sure someone gets a GOOD recording of the audio. Trying to judge anything based on tinny or overdriven recordings is pointless.
That's what I'm hoping from the livestream. That the footage will be captured from the hardware, rather than filmed from a TV screen. Mind you, regardless of the quality, it'll be painfully obvious very quickly if Polyphony dared to use the same samples again. I mean, the audio can't be terrible, not if Turn 10's Mike Caviezel is Polyphony's "senior audio lead"... can it? :nervous:

The physics always evolved with every new Gran Turismo title, so they will surely be improved again (and they talked about improved physics in the original announcement too).

Yeah I mean it's kinda weird, on one hand you know they have to get it right eventually and they've brought in good guys to get it done but we're just so used to GT having below par audio it's going to be so strange when it finally does sound good. It's one of those things you want to happen but are just so used to it for so many years that it's hard to imagine.

That's true but the rate of evolution is S.L.O.W. and with every thing that is improved, something else is broken. GT6 for example definitely has the best overall physics and feel out of all GT games, but still has way too many problems: reversed ride height, broken camber, broken aero, broken weight distribution in MR cars. Also despite making partnerships with KW & Yokohama, their suspension and tire modelling are still very much simplified. Wheel FFB also could be much improved, especially in terms of road feel (though I suspect this is partly down to PD's ice smooth track modelling).

Now I don't know how much of this is down due to Kaz trying to keep the game accessible, or this is just the limit of their physics programmer. They are still using the same guy from GT1 in GT6's credits, believe it or not (Akihiko Tan). But it's very frustrating when games from around 2005 (GT4's release date!) can have better physics than GT6 released 10 years later (e.g. Enthusia, rFactor, LFS).

They've already started improving the audio with GT6's free DLC cars. It's not quite there yet, but compare the Golf GTI Supersport, Subaru VIZIV, or Mazda LM55 to their nearest existing equivalents (perhaps the Golf R32, Impreza WRC or JGTC, and 787B or RX-7 LM) and they're miles better. If they can continue in the direction they seem to have chosen for the GT6 DLC, it's going to be much better.

Oh, and I had a nose about on Kevin Middelbos's LinkedIn page. Not only is he working on the UI, as we knew already, he's also added just recently some info about his role as "Game Designer" for GT Sport. Some fresh design influence and ideas, from a former Evolution Studios employee, no less, is only an encouraging sign for GT.

Didn't Polyphony pick up the physics programmer that worked on Enthusia after it flopped and Konami gave up on racing sims?

(Oh, and it's still a darn shame that Enthusia was a commercial failure. I have it on PS2 and still love it to bits).

True they've gradually got better but it's still too perfect as Kaz said, in that everything still sounds soulless and digital. With GTS I hope to hear cracks, pops, whistles, hear some life and imperfection as you get from a real car.

Yep, I'll be there both days.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Looking forward to seeing you in the flesh as it were @Jordan

One quick question - is there a dress code for this thing? Wouldn't want to get there and get locked out for something as that would be a real downer

@Jordan , Ive been thinking, now that we know a new GT Sport trailer is incoming, is it possible if you could ask PD to release a non compressed version of it? The Youtube trailers are so highly compressed.
Maybe GT Planet could be allowed to host a HQ HD version of it on Mega etc?

Also, do you know if GT Sport will be showcased with Playstation VR in London?
