All you need to do is watch the races back yourself. The first shot we had of the race on the oval. The very good car models looked totally out of place on the low quality track. The buildings on the Tokyo street track looked very poor quality compared to the very good car models. Then when we come to Brands Hatch and the Ring, all of a sudden the very good car models seemed to sit very well in their environment. There wasn't a stark contrast between the quality of the car models and the quality of the environment. So there you go that's the reasons I formed my opinion about the inconsistencies between the qualities of the tracks. So now I guess you are going to tell me my opinion is wrong are you ;)

I've seen the races. Nice try.
Nothing you have said is specific: "oh I just feel the cars don;t sit well in this track". The tokyo track; the track looked fine texture wise. I agree the buildings (mostly their roofs) lacked details and textures.

When did we see more than 16 cars?
here
8 in the right pack and other 9 close to the track border

Well the stream Nordschleife was clearly a huge step forward from the GT6 one in terms of trackside quality.

However for me the overriding feeling after watching the stream was just how far behind iRacing it all is. I advise you guys to go and watch some iRacing events on YouTube just to see how the cars behave, how natural the racing looks, how effective the spectator modes are. Irrespective of whether you are a fan of iRacing physics (which is finally getting there recently), the online experience is second to none, especially for holding competitive events.

This beta build has Gran Turismo's great lighting model and usually looks pretty, but everything else about the racing was prehistoric compared to iRacing.

I think the push for competitive racing is a good thing. Why wouldn't it be?

It will never be anything like iRacing, but there's a lot of people who will appreciate a more structured approach to online multiplayer.
I never said it wasn't, the issue is the game doesn;t look near good enough to do so thats the point, not with bumper car collision physics still a thing.

I'm amazed you haven't complained about the rose tinted look everything had yet ;)

And if you can look at the below pic ans still say that there are not inconsistencies between the tracks then there is no point in continuing the discussion with you.

Must have been. Problem is people have latched on to that and are seriously thinking the game will improve by 100% before release.

This is purely my guesswork as to why the game might be 50% complete with 6 months to go. If they started on the core stuff (game engine, lighting engine, etc, maybe physics) 3 years ago as soon as GT6 launched (or soon after), it may be that they only started on the "front end" of the game (career structure, graphical "tarting" up, online structure etc) approx 6 months ago. So, perhaps (repeat this is just a guess on my part) this could be what was meant. While it may take 3 years or more to build it up from scratch, the top layer could maybe be planned to be completed in a year?

If that guess is correct, then I think that maybe the core stuff won't change much before release (except more "tarting up" on graphics such as tyre tracks and stuff like that), but the "front end" might still look somewhat different come November.

Either that, or they really did only start their work on the game when they released the track editor thingy for GT6, which I personally think unlikely.

But all that is just my personal opinion and guesswork.

My impressions are that the new content and features that have been revealed with the event in London today almost make this a guaranteed buy for me. I'm not going to be someone who is going to let a few graphical and sound flaws from a beta version of the game stand in my way from enjoying the things Polyphony did bring to the table.

The graphics look pretty good, nice balance between "oooh shiny" and realism. HUD looks fantastic, and the flagging system looks good too. I hope that there's more than a "full-course yellow" option and there can be local yellows and full-fledged Safety Car periods too.

Unfortunately I was at work during 70% of the stream among other things, would someone mind linking a video, preferably, of the new Safety Car in action if there is one? I looked through the stream archive but didn't find anything.

Repeating the same vague points isn't going to help. Ground textures look blurry because of poor stream quality.

So why did they look so much better on Brands and the Ring on the same stream?

Look at the inner white wall, the grey surface between the wall and the tarmac, the tarmac itself. All inferior compared to what we saw at both Brands and the Ring which both looked really good.

Ah, thank you for this. Just started rewatching Community this week. Already started Season 2, and can't wait for my girlfriend to witness this episode.
