Just popping in to say I'm still very happy I haven't bothered with a PS4. 130 cars is pitiful, imho. Track count seems along the same lines, abysmal.
Didn't watch any videos, or look at any pictures.

Key word, virtual, supervision by FIA, what sort of safety will be emphasized in a virtual race ? Flag rules ? There's no risk of injury, and I doubt damage will be like in real life with tire blowout, engine failure, etc.

What do you mean key word virtual? You asked if it was sanctioned, that was the whole point of their announcement, it is the first virtual series that will be sanctioned as if it were a real life racing event.

Yeah it's looking short on content but still shaping up to be worthy of my $. Probably not going to be the GT I wanted but there's enough there to keep me interested.

It's called moving the goalposts Samus ;)

No that article said when we first heard about the partnership, back in 2014, we were told 4 tracks had been certified. We have no idea how many will be certified at release. You also cleverly missed off 'FIA' from 'FIA Online Championship' in your reply. Which I think most would agree is a pretty glaring omission.

I don't see this FIA + PD as no more than online championship.

Nice find Samus, which I could have found that.

It's amazing the lengths some posters will go to to defend GT from a perceived attack.

Defend ? If I was at London event, I would have made Kaz feel bad, telling him how I have to spent lots of time correcting many glaring errors on stock setup ( my replica garage ), the physics issues, and other stuff needs fixing in GT6. I would ask him to play LFS and try to aim similar physics level for GTS. Get him watch the Vernasca 2014 Hill Climb video I posted earlier here, and try to get sound simulation to that level.

All I'm saying, I don't take the E-sports no more than online events with FIA name on it.

We haven't seen the actual event yet officially, nor FIA stated explicitly that it will run and enforced like real life racing event. It may only be limited to flag rules, and track visual certification. I doubt that it will be like real life FIA events, as GT do not have intricate realistic simulation ( including damage ) yet like Pcars which should be better candidate for FIA E-sports platform.

Do we know what 'brand central' in the menus is yet?

It's an expanded car dealership. In addition to the dealership I believe it will contain additional information and features about the brand, such as videos and maybe the museum feature as well?

IIRC a new kind of car dealership where you can really take time to admire the cars and get information as eran0004 says, also you get videos of the cars so that you can really get to know the cars before you buy them. :)

Totally agree with the GT1 stuff, although never played GT2 as I was to young to own it so I went from GT1 to GT3 :embarrassed:!
Too young to own GT2 but yet owned the earlier game... :sly:

If ever bored though and want to play the older game, it should work on PS1, PS2 and PS3. I haven't played much of GT3 so plan to complete it one day.

You can hear some of the car sounds on following video to know better what I meant:

You may not but the FIA and PD sure do. I'm not sure you understand how significant it is for them to say an online championship will be officially sanctioned by the FIA and run as if it was a real world event. That is far more than just "an online event with the FIA name on it".

No we don't know how deep it will go yet but that is what they are claiming.

Finally, PD got the right atmosphere of a clear day on the Green Hell... looks awesome for a 'GT6 HD' (as Eurogamer claimed)

the subtle changes in the HDR's level within the same track was a nice touch... looks very realistic

Bold claim by PD, FIA in this case, seems to pick PD as partner more due to sales number, popularity and exposure. Not sure what FIA trying to achieve here, for safety initiative, FIA better pick Pcars as platform, as it has better simulation aspect ( damage in particular ). I think GTS needs a lot of catching up to be worthy of FIA official E-sports platform.

I'm glad you weren't there then.

Feel bad that will lead good things as he will know what sort of expectation GT need to be when compared against the likes of AC and Pcars, how bad that is than praising Kaz to no end ?

I would just asked him to play LFS with Dual shock and wheel on PC, and imagine if GTS drives like that, how great would that be for GT players ? Great tire physics, realistic suspension, easy to get into even with keyboard/stick. The tire that could deformed as you slide and halt to a stop, feels like rubber even driving using stick, tire pressure that can be used to dial camber, heat model that works, suspension that react like real life behavior etc.

Not bad for a game released in 1999

I managed to get behind the wheel to try the game out for myself. As you can imagine, everyone there wanted to try the latest offering from Kazunori Yamauchi. My first drive was a half lap of The Nordschleife in a single brand race. Initial impressions for me, being a PC sim racer, the graphics, the polygon count per car and the scenery are almost photo realistic when you see them in person. However, my first driving impressions were a little underwhelming. I did not feel that I was totally connected to what was happening on the screen, in some of the corners the car would wash-out understeer without warning. For me, there was no real feeling of weight transfer and catching a slide was more thanks to the visual cues rather than a tactile feeling through the steering wheel. I guess I have been a little spoilt when it comes to sim rigs and controls lately, so comparing the experience with how I usually sim race, well, suffice to say it was quite a different experience to racing a PC title such as iRacing or Assetto Corsa

the great thing is you can continue to play GT6 with all the cars and tracks you like :)

Personally, I think PD is making the exact right decision to build new HD content for the PS4 and for the future instead of sticking with outdated assets. This decision necessitates less content... it takes a lot of time and effort to create new tracks and cars. Forza 5 did the same thing but at this point in Forza 6 they have a huge selection of cars and tracks. I am sure PD will eventually get there as well.

Of course I don't use these games to "collect cars" anyway. It's about the driving for me and a few handfuls of great cars and tracks are all I need if the title is a quality package throughout.

PD's "outdated assets" weren't anything like Forza's "outdated assets".
