i think forza 3 (or was it 2?) had livery editing basedon on decal shapes. You choose shape, bring along the car and choose color, and so on. Worked well i made lots of liveries back then.

As @SlipZtrEm said we don't know what this "Decal deform" is yet.

It might turn out to be something similar to the Twirl / Swirl / Fisheye Lens / Skew effect in Photoshop.

Or even as simple as Skew, Resize, Opacity.

Edit: you had already mentioned Skew, dummy me. I'll see myself out.

Kaz looks super sick of answering certain questions...

He must hate us here on GTP haha

Screw it, that's his job when he's on the promo trail.

Greenawalt gets the same thing. As do most major devs I suppose.

Still, I'm not a fan of how he dodged the damage question. He obviously doesn't think it's important, but it's an area in which Gran Turismo has been poor for most of it's life.

I'd stick my neck out here and say that every sim, arcade or other driving game is also poor in terms of damage. It's a bit like AI, you can fake it, but without a huge, profound technological leap forward, it's just that, faking it. Unless you model every part of a car, every nut and bolt and weld and join, give it proper physics, then it will always be poor, and unrealistic. Damage and AI will always be much, much harder than simulating a realistic driving experience.

It's much more useful criticism to say that the sounds are a bit off, or the tracks aren't detailed enough, or there aren't enough cars, or whatever. Areas which they can legitimately improve.

All, of course, in my humble opinion.

I would agree that no game has done damage to a superb standard but you can't deny that many have done it to a much better degree than GT. Perfect may not be possible, "much better" definitely is.

GT is light years away from that sort of damage in terms of both visually and the physical repercussions.

Oh man, brings me back to that awful printed engine on the Blitz Skyline when the hood is damaged in GT5.....

But really though, i'd rather they spend more time with improving the sounds, the environments on the tracks and the content of the game than the damage. Those are more important imo. They can still include mechanical damage with exterior damage like the ones from the rally cars damage system in GT5 combined with scratches and dirts on GT6 damage model and it will be fine.

Good points, and lovely screenshots. Most games have probably done damage better than GT, I agree on that. Even ancient stuff like Stunt Car Racer.

But what I'm suggesting is that 'GT-level' damage and 'much better' are essentially the same thing when 'perfect' is light years away in comparison. In this respect, I can understand Kaz's frustration with the question.

I mean, look at BeamNG. That's the pinnacle of damage

There is damage means the same stuff we got in GT6 for me. I really hope not, the industry has moved far away from the bumper cars racing of Granturismo.
