Not sure I'd agree with that, the lighting in DC is for me on a par with it.
Maybe, never came back to the game after initial troubles. Loved the "punching above your weight" Continental GT race- really hope to get this car in GTS

Edit:

Bought Overwatch yesterday(awesome game) but I'm sitting by my pc waiting for god knows what... Weird life of a GT fan...

GTS is so beatiful and photo realistic:

I think in terms of the view of the track the textures are poor and there is no sense of depth to the kerbs or grass and surroundings.
This is proper kerb and grass..

So your using GT as a reference point then!

Personally I would rather use reality.

Personally I find this lighting to be something else as well:

Nice video, remainds me of the single one thing I hated in this game- strange mufled engine sound in all of the cars. Don't know what was the point of that.

It will take FOREVER to do, especially by PD, even if they will it won't run even on PS5.
Also images, you've posted has color correction and post-fx. (like all photos)

For me personally, I would say a racing game without dynamic weather and time of day is definitely off to a bad start. I slated FM6 for it, I'll slate GTS too. Even more so for the fact that it is veering to the Motorsports side of the genre. A race track is as dynamic as the racing upon it and adds to the excitement and believability. To me it's not a true simulation if you are only simulating half of the variables that happen on a race to race, lap to lap basis.

On the flip side you could argue that PD is first party and that first party purely exists to sell hardware and the only hardware that Sony needs help in shifting is VR. A perfectly valid reason if true and both VR users and TV users are in the same game. Heck, if it looks that good in VR and works as intended without hiccups I'll go as far to say a great technical achievement.

But it's coming at the cost of what I consider two of the most underrated and often overlooked features a true racing game should have from the start. For me it all rests on the questions surrounding VR and trying it for myself. Whether it's a fair trade off for me, I dunno... Time will tell!

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't criticise DC's visuals, they're incredible. The strengths of that game were the weather effects, and the 'messiness' (something quite difficult to achieve most likely). It's the first game I've seen to substantially take away some of the plasticky gamey-ness from car games.

But taking that into account, what I've seen so far of GTS, purely in terms of lighting, is more impressive. It's hard to describe exactly, without a thorough technical knowledge, but as with discussions of the handling, it comes down to 'feel'. For me, the GTS lighting is way ahead in terms of that natural feel.

Purely subjective of course. :)

Sweet sweet VR. (Personally the big seller for me)
As much as I like the idea I have to test it for 2h in one sitting before I buy it. If its something that you get dizzy after a short time I rather invest in a newer TV or PS4Neo.

The Uber lighting does do the job, no other racing game(sadly) reaches this level.

PD are wizards ... I don't know what's their secret sauce, lighting, shaders, or something else, but all the GT always were very photo realistic. No other games make cars looks like the real ones the way gt does. Even back in the psone days, with all the limitations, GT already had this realistic look.

Who other would do a second set of textures for a sundown!

My guess is, they need to sacrifice dynamic time and weather for stable perfomance. GT6 framerate are all over the place when you race with dynamic weather, and shadows are glitching everywhere. Ex.

How about Gran Turismo 5 was stable? i prefer Day night cycles and weather dynamic than stable performans. The hyped GT5 with this features. This makes platform difference.

Keeping in mind how good PD trailers are, superb photo-mode (with realistic controls), and how good menu design and replays are - it's not hard to understand that PD have significant knowledge about photo and cinematography, plus great sense of art.
Why I'm saying? It's not subjective . They really know how lighting works! ;)

Framerate has to be rock solid for VR otherwise you get motion sicknes in a flash

Personally, as someone who has played racing games since the first Sega Rally all this discussion about graphics details is so absurd. I understand devs have to push the envelope and everything but with the kind of quality we are seeing from the top games, its the driving and gaming aspect that needs to be the defining aspect.

But I digress...People should be trying to see if there are any news from the Nurb 24h.. now that would be relevant.

Having spent quite a bit of time in VR, which is awesome by the way, I really hope there has been a minimal trade off to enable VR. The trade off just isn't going to be worth the benefit of VR which such an underpowered machine. I know what VR can give me with my uber PC and the benefits even with such a powerful machine are not worth the main game suffering. This would only be compounded on an underpowered machine like the PS4.
