Favorite quote from the article:

"What was once the poster child for PlayStation has mutated in recent years to become a bizarre passion project"

Favorite reply:

"The days of buying Used Honda Civic's and slowly upgrading them - air filter, computer, tyres, weight - and taking it through your journey of GT and getting better and better, and faster seems like it's over. And that makes me really sad."

On the basis they've essentially nailed the lighting conditions of a sunny environment I'm rather curious to see what the game looks like under overcast or rainy weather.

For me it seems PD have put all their eggs in the lighting and model baskets to (so far) the detriment of everything else: IQ, FPS, environments etc. Hopefully things were paired back just for the event to run smoothly but how GT5/6 launched doesn't fill me with confidence.

I worry if they don't balance things out they won't reach many of the targets/goals especially with just 3 months working time left.

Lighting in DC i very good but not realistic, at daytime, it s clearly not like in real life, something is wrong with chromatic
The video I posted is daytime, nothing about it is clearly not like real life.

The lighting in GT is great, but they are not alone in being able to produce a good lighting model.

I think in terms of the view of the track the textures are poor and there is no sense of depth to the kerbs or grass and surroundings.
This is proper kerb and grass..

Unfortunatelly we won't be seeing games with graphics that match 100% reality anytime soon. Maybe we will never get there.

What we are seen high now with GTS is IMO the closest thing to reality in games. It's at a point that it could trick some people into thinking it's real life footage.

And it's only a WIP engine. Imagine if the final code will achieve this quality of assets:

That image of the tree is a case in point of showing something much higher quality than the replay footage.

I'm not sure of the location but all the trees I saw on Nurburgring where flat and grey textures?

If this is just the LOD system then I don't see the point of mentioning it if they look like the tree behind more than 3 feet away!

The problem with Driveclub is that during daylight without rain or wet surfaces it will look odd. It's like if their engine looses a lot without these effects. GTS in these same conditions looks super realistic.

I can't wait to see how GTS will look at night and under rain or wet track. I don't know if they can achieve what Driveclub did at 60 fps, but if what we saw so far is a good indicator, we could have our faces melted.

Where's the "Sound" sub section ?

Before the site was saying "the graphics, sound and physics engine will be tits thanks to the PS4 powah"

Now we have this new layout and no word on sound. Live event had zero coverage on sound too.

Yeah so far looks like AGAIN the models have an unnecessary amount of detail with uber lighting engine. Now this is all nice and all but if there's no room for other stuff...

They left out dynamic conditions so there's some hope for the graphical balance.

3 months of time for the game to go gold. I'm sure they will keep working till November for a gigantic day one patch. Still not a lot of time.

I meant sunny
At dawn, or rainning and all, DC do a great job at lighting, but to simulate the sun lighting, i dont know, the render is a mix between GT and FM

I've seen GTS running and it's good, but quite frankly it's not the peak of perfection that is being implied.

For me, GT Sport is the best looking racing game I've seen to date.

DriveClub, apart from the rain effects on the windshield, never impressed me.

I was ok with GTS not having dynamic weather but I am very disappointed there will be no dynamic time. Driving Circuit de la Sarthe or Nurburgring Nordschleife through a sunset for example was wonderful and I will certainly miss it come November.

Graphically GTS is looking quite beautiful and borderline photo-realistic. I am still looking forward to it and I just hope the AI is rebuilt and bad news about the livery editor being restricted to cars with 3 wheels or something doesn't crop up.

I do like the BMW M6 GT3 Kazunori is racing during the Nurburgring 24h. Hint hint...

I'm surprised by your comment regarding trees ... maybe we are not seen the same videos. I think trees is one of the things that got a huge improvement.

Even with all the compression on the videos, i think the trees are looking very good:

With no dynamic weather and TOD I see no excuses for GTsport not being the most beautiful game.
Exactly what I think of GT today

"The days of buying Used Honda Civic's and slowly upgrading them - air filter, computer, tyres, weight - and taking it through your journey of GT and getting better and better, and faster seems like it's over. And that makes me really sad."

Yes, I don't know what hurts more, loosing a single player career or dynamic time and weather. When was announced I got really excited about the VR support, but now seeing all this compromises hitting the game, i think VR is only doing damage to the game.

@jpbonadio

I meant the trunk of the trees as highlighted by PD under graphics on the official site. They even talk about the bark...

Of course the in-game graphics are much improved in many ways over PS3 but there are some elements that are too close for me. Like I said previously I hope a lot of graphics stuff was toned down for the event.

The patchy tufts of grass on the other hand I could give or take.

Agree. In some places the grass looks really good, and in others looks unfinished. It's probably the same differences we saw in trees in the trailer build, and in the event build. I hope the final game will be more consistent.
