I wonder if PD is aware of the current feedback regarding AI in GTS after the last few events.

Then again being aware is one thing. Doing something about is another story.

They have been aware of the feedback over the crap AI for 10 years now. Hopefully it changes for release but I won't get my hopes up.

I'm personally finding the AI to look exactly like GT6.

The way the AImturned into the racing line even if the human player is on it is exactly the same as GT6, standard AI move...They seem to have very little awareness of the human player and just want to hug the racing line.

I am willing to deal with line hugging AI if they manage to post rather competitive lap times. And do turns that aren't 20 mph slower than we do.

Note to Kaz - we don't want to be able to pass all the cars in one or two laps, there's no fun in that. We want to have to actually race them and fight for the positions - that is where the enjoyment is. Please at least make the 'professional' option have real pace - it can't be that hard to make them faster if nothing else.

After reading the last few pages, looks like GT Sport could be in trouble. Previously, I was sure that I'll get the game, but I think I'll hold off on this game for awhile until I see what the general consensus says about it when it comes out.

You guys are seriously nuts. Lets set a few things straight:
  • VR does not affect the graphics of a game unless in VR mode.
  • Complaining about AI is ridiculous when you can race against real people
I highly question the sanity of anyone who rather drive against AI than online with real people. I want PD to spend zero time improving the AI because I don't want an offline mode at all. Its boring, very much the same as sex alone. Sure it's better than nothing but but given the choice, and you are, choose to play with others rather than just yourself. It's much more fun.

You must have the greatest luck in the world, then. For every time I've had a pure, clean race in a game, I've had at least a handful with some individuals who make the AI look like Senna.

God forbid people like to have a challenging AI that can't be beat so easily in favor of taking a chance of playing with folks who like to play bumper cars when they lose.

Nice to see that you never have any problems finding clean lobbies and even nicer that you never have any connection issues.

You wanna know what is nuts? Thinking that racing against AI is pointless just because there's real players to race against. What's wrong with AI again? Seems to me that competitive AI is something that is wholly achievable and is not out of line to ask for.

Oh god, you are going to get A LOT of flack for saying this. Get your guns ready.

Heh... All I have ever done here is take flack since this site cannibalized the membership of granturismo.com, I wouldnt feel this was GTP without it. The membership here needs a good kicking. PD release a "sport" game and you all do nothing but complain about the lack of non sport features. Why not go to an Uncharted thread and complain about the lack of race cars?

Its simple. If you don't like racing then don't buy this racing game. Just go away and stop complaining about this racing game not being something it's not. OR switch your complaints to real issues. Like there still being no transmission sounds, or no tyre marks or marbles or many of the things this game is lacking in. Just don't complain that it's not my little pony or something else not related. It's not meant to be.

Well there you have it folks, GT Sport is NOT meant to be a game where you race other opponents in. Because racing against AI isn't a core element of a game that belongs in the racing genre, right? If this is how it's going to work then sorry members of GTPlanet, if you had any plans on doing some actual RACING please leave the building immediately.

If there was no AI in the game you'd have a point. If the game was entirely online you'd have a point. However, AI is in the game, it's featured prominently in several gameplay videos we've seen so far so, unfortunately, you don't have a point.

Asking for realistic AI in a racing game is not meant to be? w0t?

I'm sorry what

It's safe to say Kenji's... "unusual" choices are what killed GT.com. That and it's perpetual unreliability.

The membership here needs a good kicking.

This is ironic, considering the line you seem to enjoy toeing.

Gross exaggeration. Strawman. False dilemma.

Just go away and stop complaining about this racing game not being something it's not.

Yeah, you don't get to tell people what to do.

OR switch your complaints to real issues.

But how will we know if they're "real" issues, again?

Just don't complain that it's not my little pony or something else not related.

Yes, because AI improvement is not related to anything in a racing game featuring AI.

Yeah, you don't get to tell people what to do.

Yeah but it would be great if I did.

But how will we know if they're "real" issues, again?

That part is simple, I'll just tell you.

You have actual intelligence to race against. In case you have missed it, that is the whole focus of this release and why "Sport" comes after GT and not "7".

I don't know if this has been brought up and sorry if it's been discussed earlier, but does anyone know that there's going to be any animated pit crews present in the game? I would love to see them changing tires in GTS.

"Actual Intelligence" doesn't seem to be the end all in most cases, as we can see from these interactions alone.

This is just like encountering those racers that just like to bash their way through the field with no regards to anything but themselves, except we're on a message board instead of a digital racetrack

We have not yet seen..

Lots of things not seen, lots of things we have seen. I don't take anything as final until I get the game. That should apply to both positive and negative aspects. Those complaining about the ai's speed and those defending it. Nothing is final yet. We had this runaround with the graphics where everyone jumped on the bandwagon one way or the other when we saw those awful trees at the Nurburgring.

You forgot something ;)

Had a quick play with it, Picture in Picture is nice and easy and you can play with the audio from both tracks as well.

Dirt Rally Example.

I..need..it

If you have spent time racing online in any game, you'd know that the 'actual intelligence' you're referring to is highly questionable most of the time. No safety rating system will change that.

I'd go further and say that your average quick match race is probably dirtier than any AI in a modern game. And at least AI is somewhat predictable even when they do dumb things, online you never know when someone is going to turn into a slavering moron and decide to take you out.

While I like racing online, there's a lot of times I simply don't want to deal with the BS that comes along with it, and so end up either in practise sessions or offline. Good AI is great in those situations, because it's far more enjoyable and useful to practise on a live track than it is just hotlapping by yourself. For me anyway. I've largely mastered car control on an empty track but I can always use more practise using my racecraft.

It will if someone actually comes up with a system that matches drivers based on safety. I don't know how these systems will work in GTS but in the videos on the profile page we can see Level, Driver Class and Sportmanship Points. Even if these were implemented the same way as iRacing does all it would take is to make the higher levels more difficult to achieve and the system could actually work as intended.

Good AI is actually good I can think of a few games where if you set the AI correctly and don't put too many of them on the track the AI racing is actually decent and I might even say better than real life because even in real life there are plenty of examples of real life driver being pretty brain dead.

That said I'd rather race against real life drivers and have no interest in racing AI. The only time I use AI is when my son and I race together so we fill out the race a little with some AI and it is fun.

The AI. Deary me.

I might have to go and buy Project Cars to see what a good example of AI is.
Well PCARS AI is fast and they battle you for position. Only problem there is that they tend to get a bit crazy sometimes and banzai you or drive over the grass in order to make a pass. In any case even with those flaws the races are way more exciting than passing 20 grannies on their way to the supermarket (the GT way).
