PlayStation HongKong had announced that Thrustmaster T150 Force Feedback would be a prize for the fans who attend the special stage of GT sport next weekend. It means that T150 will be supported by GT Sport.

Meh. All time best laps, sure, maybe. Totally optimal conditions in reality versus optimal in the sim, ok. We pulled a few laps at times during the week and all our back to back sessions were within 2 seconds still sounds odd.

I assume that they mean that the car feels really similar in the game to the real life one and that sounds great. I'm on board with that. But if the times are actually that close it seems more like just luck that the conditions match those in the game, and actually makes me more skeptical than if they'd just said "we gave it to the drivers in our team and they think it's really good".

It's also of note that we're yet to see things like variable track grip and serious integration of tyre temperatures and ambient conditions in Gran Turismo. I hope this means that we're going to see these things in GTS, but if not then that leans even further towards the "coincidence rather than excellence" conclusion.

Where did I say GTS is crap? I said I don't buy into the marketing dribble that is a suspiciously accurate lap time.

I actually said that I like that professional drivers of the actual car think highly of the simulation, I just don't buy their 2 seconds on an 8 minute lap mumbo jumbo. That's marketing speak.

You know, I can be critical of their marketing bollocks without being critical of the game. As I said before, I actually think this speaks well for the game, just not in the specific way that the instagram is trying to present it.

Certainly. What matters is that it drives well, not some random number like a magic lap time. I'd like things to be visible and adjustable, but it's an option not a necessity.

Please don't perpetuate the myth that people who are asking questions and wondering about the validity of marketing claims are saying GTS is crap because they are clearly not. See what I did there?

Pure conjecture here, but I'm really excited about the EGX appearance... That's quite a big event...

Do we know if they're going to be at TGS yet? That's about the same time I think, and if they're gonna show something at EGX they'll probably do it in their hometown as well. Should be a good influx of information.

I imagine by end of September we should probably be seeing a full featured demo, even if it's limited to a few cars and tracks. Weather, time, damage, livery editor are probably the big ones we haven't really seen. With two months to go until release I imagine they'd have to have everything at least functional enough that it can be shown and used in limited circumstances, even if it's not stable enough for full release.

Look at how quick one can take a stock GT-R around the 'Ring in GT6: it's certainly faster than the real world, and I know I'm not even remotely in the same skill league as Nissan's own driver!

Meanwhile, PGW and SEMA a month later should see it more or less complete, at least if the game is to make its release date. I do wonder if they still plan on handing out a trophy at SEMA, since we're both owed a fair amount at this point, and they don't really fit into GT Sport.

Either. It would seem like about the right time for them to start ramping up the hype machine by dribbling out indepth interviews and footage of their key features (and stuff like weather/night which are visually spectacular).

I think it'd be good to give the public a hands on, but they've been inconsistent with how they're making information available. They may want to present the information only through chosen reviewers and publications so that they can control it. We saw how they treated public footage after Copper Box.

That's a far better explanation that I gave. :)

I'd rather have a Gran Turismo 6 that gave the wrong lap time than a PGR4 that gave the right one*.

*Although I do love PGR4 as well, just not as a simulator. :P
 
It's shaping up to be quite an exciting game if, like me and many others, you're into GT3 racing. With the inclusion of the GT3 M6 I make that 16 GT3 eligible cars. With livery editor to boot I can't see the grids looking too samey for a while. If there are any other racing disciplines that are half as well supported I'll be very happy.
We can expect also the RC F GT3?

The just completed Lexus RC-F GT3 shows itself for the first time. A development collaboration for this car is going on with Gran Turismo as we speak.


That could be a lot of RC F or GT R. Imagine : normal, GR 4, GR 3 and GT500 (I hope).

Well I'm glad that you know what I'm thinking and meant to say better than I do.

Could you tell me what my opinion on the PS Neo is while we're here? I figure I might as well ask the one person who knows what I think instead of just trying to come up with the answer myself.
 
I'm not excited to hear about the inclusion of the new M6 GT3. Presenting a car that would tease possibly new range of cars we haven't seen so far seems to be far better idea.

The GT3 cars are quite popular in all sims. They are great to race because of their stability and high grip:Power ratio, but, if I'm honest, they are boring as heck to drive after you try out a few of them. Not sure how many there are in Assetto Corsa for example, 10 maybe + mods, but I never drive them at all anymore unless I'm prepping for a race. 6 or 8 is more than enough and after that, in any sim, I'd rather see them concentrate on other series or types of cars with different levels of grip and power.

No one has said displaying parameters makes it a good sim. But if you wander into a sim racing forum there are detailed discussions about the fidelity of the various sims and how well the simulate the parameters they work with, and which elements of simulation are missing. I don't know of anyone that thinks that Project Cars, Assetto Corsa, RFactor2, iRacing etc. are all the "same" in other than the most basic elements of simulation. Do you have a link to GTS physics being the "same"?

How do you know the GTS physics engine is using tyre temperatures?

Well, GT5 and GT6 did so it seems likely that GTS will as well.

I think the question is more how they will be treated. The older implementations were very simplistic, and it could be hard at times to understand why the temperatures behaved as they did. And there was limited scope for adjusting car setup to correct temperature issues. It did OK for short term temperatures (like drifting through a corner), but I feel it wasn't great at modelling temperatures over long runs

Hopefully GTS looks to bring a model that incorporates both. In real racing there can be big differences between drivers who know how to look after their tyres and those that don't. Racing is in many ways heat management, and the tyres are a big part of that. It can also act to disincentivise some of the more unrealistically aggressive driving styles.

I hope that we see tyre pressures and at least three point tyre temperature monitoring. That's pretty fundamental for any racing, from amateur levels up to the very top. It's also kind of a fun little mini-game for those than enjoy setup work. It can be a great feeling to spend half an hour tinkering with your car to get it feeling just the way that works for you.
 
I am all for a more complex set-up system. I see what is possible in i-Racing and PCars and really get envious.

Of course I am one of those crazy people who would like to combine Automation and a good racing sim together. Forget VGT, build a car from scratch your way and get rich or wreck trying...

Not very good, I'd say, judging by the "7 to 77" PR tagline. Not that having a simplified set up system is a bad thing, not at all. I'm all for beginner-friendly designs.

Also, I wouldn't be too surprised to see PDI "blessing" us with one or two pre-selected set-ups for several cars. Just select one, and you're good to go.

That way, it can be claimed "true plug & play!!"
 
Something about that "7 to 77". The game should be enjoyed by all. I just thought about older players who would enjoy driving cars they never could, in their youth.
 
A recent video of the Tokyo track.

The Tokyo track looks lifeless. IRL there are tons of signages and lights. It should be a dream for all the old fans of Ridge Racer like me but there is something wrong with it. I don't understand why Poly uses it to showcase its game. I hope it's an "old" build just for GT Academy.

Only watched the first half of the video but the kid really understands the limit of the car and the track. He only had one minor wall brush but on most corners he was able to use the entire track, running to within inches of the wall and clipping all the apexes. Nice to see a demo video from a skilled sim racer!

Many lighting is appropriate. The actual speed limit of the location is about 25 miles to 31 miles.
I think that the video is visible many because it is passed at high speed.
