I haven't followed PS VR development much, what do you mean by a "Hi-Fi Mode"? I was under the impression that 60fps was a minimum requirement too, do you think there's a way they could put in VR without the game running at locked 60? (and without Sony being very cross? :P )

I suppose the other thing to consider with VR is whilst it is a promised feature, I don't believe it's been specifically promised to be there at launch..............
Hi-Fi mode could be a group of game settings that reduce visual quality in favour of a fixed framerate to accomodate VR. While we all want a locked 60 fps, it doesn't make sense necessarily to design the entire game around achieving 60fps in the most taxing conditions just to accomodate VR players that will likely make up a tiny % of the player base. Having a toggle to go back and forth between super hi settings and lower VR settings would make some sense to me.

I think he means that PS VR will be a separate mode maybe just a time trial with only your car on the track. This way it will be solid 60 fps but in all the other modes it won't be 60 fps stable.

EDIT: Tree'd :ouch:

Just got an answer from the Gran Turismo Team in Facebook -->

So its really them who are managing the Facebook communication ;)

That's consistent with the answer they gave me when I asked them a similar question a while back. That they speak to the team doesn't necessarily mean they actually get told what on earth is going on, though :P
Yes thats right, but its good to know that they arent just some guys in a Service Center operating for PDI with a given sheet of infos they are able to share.

So here we have it, the official communication channel with PDI that everyone wanted.

Hi-Fi mode was an unlockable mode back in Gran Turismo 1, where you could play the game in 60fps (as opposed to the standard 30), but only on two or three tracks, with reduced background detail and no opponent cars on track. The analogy is, therefore, if VR just ends up being a tacked on extra mode with a number of limitations and caveats, then it might end up being that only this special VR mode has locked 60fps and the rest of the game runs at whatever framerate Polyphony deem acceptable. If instead it's integrated into the game properly, is useable wherever the player wants to use it, and has visual parity with the rest of the game, then we might see locked 60fps.

I guess it ultimately comes down to whether the game is designed around the demands and constraints of VR, or is tacked on to an existing game, requiring alterations and fudges to make work.

Edit: I have been tree'd several times over! At least this time you're hearing the explanation straight from the source. :P

Wow, I never even knew about that before. Just looked it up and it looks fabulous! Thanks for that :)

Yeah, that's a real fail.

May have to take a backseat on GTP then. Driving me nuts the wait haha.
Plenty of other great driving/racing experiences to be had and the vast majority of them actively discussed on GTP. Don't just wait on PD to sort their shoot out, try something else. I'd hate to think of the fantastic racing/driving experiences I would have missed out on if I'd just waited around for GT.

I have Driveclub, that's enough for now, for sure!
Was looking to try Assetto Corsa, but... :(

Exactly. I can't wait to see GT Sport, and I really am excited that a beta is coming soon. However, there's no reason we can't be excited for other franchises as well. I like GT as much as I do Assetto Corsa, Driveclub, PCARS, Forza Motorsport, Forza Horizon, Mario Kart 8, even.

Whose job so far has been to officially say nothing. Good to see Polyphony is getting their money's worth there.

Pitstop Version 2.0, here we come!
It isnt that they didnt say "nothing". Do you really expect them to answer every question with detail? For specific questions its healthier to say nothing than telling something that in the end isnt true - then people would call them liars.

Have to agree 100%, GT5:P was great and a real high before the disappointment (for me) that was GT5/6
GT6 worst in the franchise for me as a game.

Anyway hopefully GT SPORT returns to form. Might be able to play Beta quite soon so will know if they managed to pull off something great or not.

Interesting, but does he Meteorological Spring or Astronomical Spring though? Either way, for me, once April is out of the way we are no longer in Early 2016 so they will have missed their initial date. So to hit that initial timescale they are going to have to do all the talking and releasing by the end of April. And I'd say, not a hope in hell!

I defo don't expect them to answer every question. However, just look back at the first post in this thread. There is a news section, it's very sparse. Don't tell people about your game and then say basically nothing for over 5 months, if the info up thread about saying nothing in March is true.

You took the statement too literal. They have said nothing in context to the questions asked. The game is slated in early 2016 for beta. The early part of the year is just about to end, and we still know nothing.

Either way, are you agreeing, or disagreeing with him? Because you start out saying they didn't say "nothing", but end with saying its better to say to say nothing.

Why not? As I've said before, the main announcement of Forza 6 was 5 months after the initial trailer.

Completely different situation. T10 have a great track record of hitting their two yearly release schedule pretty much bang on, whereas PD have a long history of cloak and dagger. One day they might, however unlikely, learn their lesson.

It's a slightly different matter when Turn 10 were releasing something in September, a whole 8 months after the initial announcement, rather than "early" 2016" (and we are now around 4 months after reveal, and we are expecting to see a playable component very soon).

To their credit, both provide a rather definite range of dates… an april release is not excluded of course, it's just that putting it as a de facto deadline could potentially be misleading or disappointing...

...That oddly sounds like a made-up name pulled out of some hat. That for real? :odd:

Seems legit.

I'm thinking April, now. Early 2016 + Spring 2016 = April, IMO. The fact they have been (deliberately?) vague and unclear probably helps them, and we cannot judge them to have missed any deadline, as they were so vague in the first place.

They did say stuff like ,,more racecars and a few street cars'', ''super premium cars'' and so on - thats what i mean with ,,they didnt say ,,nothing''''!

And with the other ,,nothing'' i meant that when they are asked about when new infos, a new trailer or a releasedate will be published its better for them to say that they cant say anything yet (which is nothing as an answer) as long as they arent sure because that only would cause problems if those deadlines cant be reached in time.

I would say the situations are fairly similar, both MS and SCE relying on a teaser trailer to generate interest before the main announcement. A rather more fundamental difference of course is GTS having a beta.

True, but leaving aside the late spring possibility, having a playable component makes a bit of a difference to the marketing, which I assume is probably oriented more to the full release of the game.
