Because I felt like seeing what it would look like with red and blue tints:

There you go, GTS Red and Blue. We're better than those Pokemon folk. :P

Yeah, I thought they would have used the coloured design but with red and blue instead of yellow/purple/orange.
I'm not an expert in psychology or sociology but, in a way, those particular colors in the spectrum, they look like they appeal to all peoples. Young/old, boy/girl. The covers were mainly dark, blue, Car on cover. The new cover looks like it's for everyone. Sure, a generic physically "male" avatar is on it but, the white and those bright colors , the GTS, say something. Something fresh about this particular game in the series.

But that's the LE. Most people are going to see the monochrome version. That's what's gonna be stacked up in Target or Gamestop or whatever. As others have pointed out, that's not the mass market version. That's the version for the dedicated fans who want to spend extra on the series that is special to them. So really, you want the nod to history.

You could maybe do something like what you're talking about by switching the two boxes so that the white/rainbow is the normal version with a white logo, and make the black one the LE but with a traditional blue/red GT logo like above. And maybe some sort of traditional colours.

That way the colourful version is the one that most visible and being pushed to the casual consumer, and the hardcore fans get the history. But that's not what Polyphony have done.

Of course, more settings like tyre pressure, the better. However, maybe if Poly thinks they can't simulate tyre pressure like in real life with the same figures, they don't put it in the game.

You can put 100 settings available, it doesn't mean the simulation is good. Forza Horizon 2 has tyre pressure and the effects are real when you change it but like in real life? Not so sure. (FH2 best game so far of this gen)

I would be happy to see tyre pressure adjustement in GTSport :)
Exactly mate... I dont think so Even a professional sim can simulate the tyre pressure....
Come on guys can you imagine how many thousands of calculations do you need to simulate the tyre to feel and be like in real life?
Even the big tyres factories the can't simulate exactly a tyre....
Take a look on Motorsport or the new coming Michelin on motogp.....
I don't want to hear for the forza settings - tuning from when i see on F4 that you can feel the difference when you change the driveshaft from opel speedster!
Because you didn't understand the opel speedster is a mr car without driveshaft....

It is weird they have done that.
With my GT5 Signature Edition, the box was black. The Metal display is liquid black. The SLS model is orange w/black stripes.
My GT6 metal cover is blue with the Megane R.S. on cover. Not much else special about it.

So, by PD flipping it around to have flash on the LE, I'd guess they're trying something different.

Professional simulators very accurately simulate the characteristics of the tyres, because the tyre simulation is the single most important part of a professional simulator. Without an accurate tyre model, the simulator is worthless to manufacturers and race teams. Even the more realistic consumer level sims have very good tyre models. GT games have always had very basic tyre models, and lagged far behind even their main competitor, Forza, in this regard.

MR cars have driveshafts mate... I think you're confusing a driveshaft with a tailshaft.

I like the red one. Reminds me of GT3.

Wow, who knew a discussion about game covers would turn into this... But honestly, no cover car? Seems a bit dumb. I so hope that the cover we see now is not final. It is PATHETIC and an insult to people who follow the game; really piss weak if you ask me.

Any car: Normal GT cover.
Race driver: HORRIBLE GET A CAR NOW. ITS A DISGRACE TO COVERS.
Anyway car recommendations?

To change up the subject... does anyone else here think the cover design is pretty weak? I know the game is not out yet and that it could change but as it stands, I don't like it very much. Usually, their covers are pretty artistic in my opinion (GT6,5,4) but GT Sport's just feels as if someone spent 10 minutes in Photoshop and selected a photo of the driver and slapped on the GT logo with a boring, default font.

I remember feeling that GT6 cover wasn't as good as GT5 and now i'm saying the same thing about GTS now.
Who buys boxed games anymore anyway? Seems a bit old-fashioned.

And how many people will be randomly cruising a game shop and think, ooh bright colours, that looks nice. I'll buy that.

Like I said, weird logic.
There's a reason why people like me buy physical copies rather than Digital, it's called my internet. I don't know how fast your Internet is or how much do you pay but my family pays around $40 monthly for that. This is also one of the reasons why I don't like the direction GT is heading for.
Not popular opinion but my favorite cover is Gran Turismo 5. It has modern feeling especially that GT logo compared to GT6 or GTS.

Yep, same as the original design. I wasn't saying that it was a good one, merely that if one were to take that approach then it would look more Gran Turismo-ish if it used the GT colours than yellow/purple/orange.

You can see on the last page that every other Gran Turismo cover has been heavily based on blue, red, black and white. Those are their signature colours, and to suddenly go away from that is a mistake. Even the standard box art is a mistake, because it doesn't include the red and blue either.

I mean, tell me that doesn't look better just having the colours on there instead of looking like a monochrome photocopy.
Looks much better IMO.

I've been thinking about the racing classes.

We all know of Gr.1, Gr.3, and Gr.4.
And the fact Gr.N cars will be broken down into groups of N200 (BHP), N300, N500 etc.

Gr.1 cars are obviously all Gr.1.
Gr.3 cars are obviously all Gr.3.

But one thing I can't recall being mentioned is separating Gr.4 cars.
I can't see a Gr.4 S-FR racing a Gr.4 Merc SLS.

So I assume there will be classes in Gr.4 as well, similar to Gr.N?
Or are we talking ridiculous BoP to fit all Gr.4 cars onto the same grid?

PD seems to have been using "Gr.4" and "Gr.N" interchangeably. I think they're the same class, they just haven't decided on what to use yet. The website has road cars as "Gr.N", and their race modified versions as "Gr.4", while the PDF files from the E3 2016 press kit has road cars as "Normal" and the race modified versions as "Gr.N" (Though even in the press kit a few cars are classed incorrectly..)

Yes, the more I think about it the more intriguing it becomes.

Apart from the car chart we have seen since Copperbox (which shows the car classes), I don't think I've seen any car officially labelled as 'Gr.4'.

I've seen the E3 menu exploration video showing what we would call a Gr.4 MX-5, although it's labelled as 'N200'.
And unfortunately it was the only car in that Brand Central list that wasn't a road car or Gr3. and above.

But to my knowledge Kaz has only referred to Gr.N cars as being the group broken down into horse-power classes.
And yet I can't recall seeing any road car labelled as N300 etc either.

I'm sure you are right that Gr.N cars are road cars, and Gr.4 cars are their race modified versions.
And then Gr.3 versions are further tuned again and BoP'd for Gr.3 racing.

But I don't think the first 2 groups could be called 'interchangable'.

I think the idea of having a driver on the cover isn't bad considering the focus of the game. It could be nice to squeeze a car on there too for clarity, but I could understand if that makes it too busy.

I think what they've got is pretty weak both in terms of the selection of the image and in how they've presented it though. Driver in helmet is a good start, but "hunched over clenching fists" is terrible. Is he excited? Frustrated? Angry?

For myself, I'd go for something with a trophy in it. The driver unfortunately probably needs to have his helmet on so he can be an everyman, but that's OK. Get that model they've got and get him doing something like this:

Get some GT branding on there instead of F1, and it's a clear expression of what the game is about. The joy of winning. The drive for excellence. The ability for you to put yourself in that position.

Even something simple like two drivers on opposite sides of a trophy, like this:

WalesvsScot.jpg

Something like that really emphasises the competition aspect. They could even make it a man and a woman, or an adult and a child if they really wanted to get interesting.

There's so many interesting designs that could be used that speak so much more about the game that Gran Turismo Sport is. Random monochrome driver tells you...motorsport game?

Honestly, this is a bit of a personal preference, whether you want the box art to be clear-cut in its intent or if you want it to be a bit more vague and make you curious and ask yourself what it's trying to convey.

I personally prefer the latter... your examples of "dude holding up a trophy" or "having a staring contest with an opponent over trophy" are boring to me and is the kind of box art I'd expect from American or European devs who tend to go for the former and whose box art often winds up being a bit lame/cheesy/tacky as a result.
