I really don't get why couldn't make a traditional GT with Sport Mode, nicely complementing each other in some way.

Because of dev time. They are delayed as they are, with a reduced car count and track list.

And a general point, why are we wondering whether cars racing round and round a circuit is going to get boring, or stressing that the sim genre has no new ideas. Are you kidding? There are a million ways this could improve, technical and design-wise. Let's not forget that the traditional GT was just a lite-RPG layer on top of this basic idea.

It seems like the release of a slick arcade racer has made people lose it a bit. It's doing well because it fills a nice gap in the market, and can co-exist alongside other titles.

People love racing, F1 is amazingly huge. Forza will sell in huge numbers, and so will GTS, and both will be great in their own unique ways.

On another note, I've seen several Forza Horizon 3 videos and it looks like a tonne of fun compared to GT Sport. Great music, great cars and great scenery. No wonder why people are going nuts over it. GT Sport doesn't grab the attention of a huge audience like it did in the past. I want the GT3 days to come back - where pretty much EVERYONE had the game. Several of which weren't even car nuts like me. Put simply, GT has lost it's appeal and Sony isn't making an effort to revive the series. Nor does Kaz seem to care...

It's impossible to judge which is more fun to play, since we only saw a bunch of cars and a handfull of tracks from GTS, while in FH3 we already have the full game available. It's the GTA of racing games, where you can do whatever you want in a big map, and fills the space left by those street racing NFS titles. It's a different type of game, compared to the typical circuit racing formula. It's "fun" because it's a more relaxed, less focused game.

It's been delayed to an unknown date in 2017. It'd be pretty weird for them to show off new stuff already.
Remember this?
That was weird too:lol:

Everything is possible

I wonder if this is gonna make less sales than GT6 did...
Personally I think that's a near certainty. People generally don't buy games just because of the name you know. Most do at least some research before buying....

Nothing I've seen of this game has me reaching for my wallet, and that comes from someone who bought all the previous games....

Literally nothing at all?

I can see that you never talked to a COD kid. They'll buy it not matter what... so yes, there's people who buy the game only by the name.

Yes. Literally nothing. :(

Still, I have got Assetto Corso so it's not that bad... But I'd really like a pre PS3 style GT.

I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything silly like that, but AC is nothing like pre-PS3 GT, so why does that help?

I don't expect any other game to be like GT. I expect GT to be GT. Any other game is just expected to be what it is.

I think COD and FIFA players are the exceptions. Otherwise, I don't see many people paying 60/70€/$ or whatever for a game they don't know about. Gaming is expensive, and any gamer with limited budget will do some research.

I don't expect any other game to be like GT. I expect GT to be GT. Any other game is just expected to be what it is.

The problem is that not everyone thinks that way. One guy wants the game to have the same amount of customization as any old NFS, other the freedom of FH, other the car count of GT4, other the graphics of Driveclub, but with 60 FPS, other the physics of Asseto Corsa or even better. With a fanbase so big, this will happen, and, at the end of the day, the game has to be perfect in every aspect to sell what sold in the past.

Gran Turismo Sport is not an isolated case.

After Christmas, the only SONY game that has defined date is Horizon: Zero Down.

Everything else has no date, including Detroit Beyond Human, Spiderman, Wild, Gone Days, God of War, Death Stranding... is not even known when will be released, and simply appear as "developing".

Even so are games that more than likely have a presence at the event.

I don't either, but that's not terribly relevant. Most everyone here has seen a GT game where it is obvious that no one involved really gave a crap. Whether GT Sport ends up being a series of bad ideas done piled on each other, it still remains that they are doing an awful lot of stuff they wouldn't need to do if the company didn't care. If all they were looking for was another quickie cash-in, Sony would have made them dump GT6 out on PS4 a couple of years ago.

I just can't see myself quoting all those posts that were directed at me (I apologize) so I will try to answer all them in one post. If I happen to miss something please understand that it is still early for me. ;)

On GT6's poor performance... Yes, timing was a huge problem but so was the fact that GT6 was to similar to GT5. Nothing forward outside of VGT (which I love) and to some, the customization and standard car issues meant no purchases. I am not sold on the sound being a huge reason though although some excitement in this department sure wouldn't hurt.

I honestly believe that what GT Sport does in sales will show us where the genre as a whole is because of GT's mainstream brand.

On driving around the ring 20 years later... My comment was geared (no pun intended) towards video games because something needs to be done to get more people interested in doing so. I understand that the enthusiasts will always flock to it and that's great but I would like to see the genre offer more then just "GTR on the Ring."

I don't know, perhaps someone out there could harness the "experience" of the 24hr 'Ring races besides offering just a grueling grind of driving. I love the 'Ring and even I am only good for a 5-10 laps all things considered.

On attracting GTA and COD players... I sometimes believe that people forget that GT and others are still video games. Sure, there is some genuine realism involved but no matter what, it is still entertainment software that is designed for people of all ages and all skill levels. These games should never be for the "elite" only.

We know that there are 20 million people out there buying GTA. Why? It's fun for many people. Fun factor is what most people play games for, not for shaving a hundredth of a second off a lap time. Yes, there those (myself included) who enjoy this, but we need to realize that 99% of people will never be good enough to win GT Academy. It's an inherent problem that I believe needs to be addressed.

On changing the GT formula...I will admit that this is tough one, but we need to be honest with each other. The formula hasn't evolved much. Sure, some of us don't care, but plenty of others do. Perhaps VR will be the key to bringing excitement into the genre but regardless something needs to be done besides the general evolution that we have seen over the past few years.

Eventually, these games are going to be nearly identical in not only their feature set but in their looks and gameplay. I see that as a problem. Perhaps @SlipZtrEm suggestion of offering a Little Big Planet tool set would be the key but all these developers need to remember that the majority of people out there will get bored and move on. I believe the game publishers out there get this as we see Forza on a sim/arcade rotation.

Smart phones are a huge threat because of a few reasons. They are not only cheap to develop, they are easy to play (remember fun!) and offer quick fixes for those looking for a racing experience. Some of you out there may be shaking your head at me bringing this up, but while phone and sim type games are different, the bottom line is not one developer/publisher out there wants to be "stuck" with 1 million in sales when there is potential client base of 50 times that.

I can't believe how much I just wrote.:lol::gtpflag:

Something definitely needed to change after GT6, I applaud Kaz for realising that. I just really don't think the direction he's gone was the right one to appeal to the 10+ million who bought the previous games. Competitive gaming is ever growing day by day but it is still a niche especially in genre with such high skill thresholds like serious racing. GT Academy pulled some great numbers over the years but how many of those were just casual racers doing it for the offline, in-game rewards? How many seriously entered it competitively, hoping and trying to win?

In saying that I think GT Sport could be/is a good concept for a racing game, it works for the "hardcore" market of racing fans like Projects CARS and Assetto Corsa do but it just needs to be backed up by another, more accessible title IMO. That is what Forza has done with Horizon, although their 'base' title is still not as focused as GT Sport. But they recognised the market for those who want to race cars and have fun with them but not in a sterile, realistic circuit environment. I've even seen some people say DRIVECLUB is too 'hardcore' and realistic for them in it's presentation and gameplay.

I simply don't see that the Gran Turismo brand can survive for another 15 years only with titles like GT Sport, no matter how good they are. Not unless there is a huge change in the gaming landscape where the focus is online, competitive gaming over casual experiences, primarily single player.

GTA, Uncharted, Dark Souls/Bloodborne, The Last Of Us, imagine the popularity of these franchises if they ditched the single player experience and focused on competitive multiplayer?

Pretty sure it will. You will even get a free copy directly from Kaz, at 8AM in your house. And yes, they will offer you a GT-R for your birthday too. :sly:
Tell kaz I want a Skyline GT-R R34 Nur V spec 2002 so all my friends can be jealous :sly:

Well, we must let them release GT Sport as they always imagined and we'll see.

I think this concept could work very well. Gran Turismo community has always been very strong, and I'm not just talking about GTPlanet but also for all dedicated sites in the world.

I sure did have fun playing GT1-4. Even GTPSP. FUN is making in the latest GT games. Hopefully PD will inject some fun in this next version.
