I don't understand the nation cup rd 1, car settings are enabled by the ruleset but it's disabled in free practice and I can't choose anything from my garage? I know they ran this style of race for daily A a few times but I never tried it, how will this work on race day? Will I have to manually tune one of the preset cars or can I enter with one from my garage? It's not very clear how that works.
It's like you can only "rent" one of the offered cars, and they are already tuned... Can't choose a garage one this time.
There was a Nations exhibition race on March 4 (the game's release anniversary, in fact) at Fuji with a selection of Nissan Z cars. And like that race, the cars were all pre-tuned loaners with fixed settings that could not be changed (besides downgrading the Sport tyres which is a stupid thing to do when tyre wear is 1X). Unlike this race which standardises all cars to Sports Medium tyres, different Zs also got different access to tyres in that race - some got Softs, some got Mediums and the remainder got Hards.

And when the '23 Z got 360hp while the 240ZG got less than half that power at FUJI of all places, you know balance was an utter joke - the '23 Z was the meta choice even though it got Sports Mediums. And incredibly, the 240ZG wasn't the slowest Z in the time trial - the Z 432 and Z34 were 2 and 3 seconds down respectively the one time I scrolled through the TT leaderboards.

Good to see GTWS exhibition season is back.

Only commenting here as a GT2 driver.
Nations
Round 1 - I’ll probably skip. Not a massive fan of these cars, and looks like an F40 race so far.
Round 2 - not a fan of X19s, but the 3 compulsory tyres makes it interesting. I’ll see on the day for this
Round 3 - Le Mans looks great. Looks like dynamic weather and time transitions could be used here, but if its just going to be old Group C cars then I’ll skip,
Round 4 - Route X I’ll enter as it could be a fun race. Hope it’s not a repeat on the daily races we have here, but SS tyres suggest it will. Also 2 laps?
Round 5 - is obviously a new track, (Montreal Gillies Villeneuve) and car mostly likely Gr3 I think, unless we have a new car (old F1 car?)

Overall - not a bad little series this. The cars for me are the biggest put me off here. Race distances are I think just about right.

Manufacturers
Round 1 - Copy of the showdown race this so will be dynamic weather (I assume) so will be entering this
Round 2 - Gr4 at seaside reverse. no thanks plus fuel saving race
Round 3 - Nurburgring 24 again. Not a massive fan of track, love driving the track just not racing it. 3 laps.. 4 would have been nice but I guess that will take it past the 1 hour. Also could be weather race again
Round 4 - another fuel saving race in gr4
Round 5 - looks a decent race. Just hope it’s not a tyre saving race.

Overall - poor I think.
Not a big fan of the Gr4 races. Gr4 cars I’m struggling to find any pace from them, not sure if that from not playing the game or I’m accustomed to GT3 cars more from ACC. Race distance again about right. Tyres & fuel…. This is where this series is let down. RH as mandatory for non weather races, and the fuel saving.

GT1 drivers I think have better races, but they have no fuel savers. All x2 and Gr3 cars. Heavy damage I think is a great idea, but going to be a huge complaint from the majority especially the way the driving standards have dipped. Hope it doesnt mean people will quit the race in the first lap.

Alright, thanks for the clarification. Sure is a weird choice, but guess I'm just going to have to get practice with the F40 then.

But if you go back in the thread, you'll see many examples of the true-to-life GT2/3 guys commenting in hindsight, that they're glad they didn't have to gut through some of the longer races - that the distances for the GT2/3 class was just about perfect. Not to mention, you had many more slots available. Those guys by and large, are casuals. They want no part of hour long races. They want a good distance, and multiple slots.

These changes for GT1, I feel is something that we've been clamoring for. More strategy, more seat time, more consequence for bad decisions.

This is 100% PD deciding to step into the big leagues of E-sports Sim Racing. Good for them!!!
Couldn't have said it better myself.

You might also want to consider the Lambo because it’s comparable to the F40 to a degree. I haven’t tried the F40 yet so I’ll see how it handles later. Lambo was more stable than I expected.

I usually find that every car has strengths and weaknesses that either work with your driving style or else they work you due to your driving style. 😉

Yeah, out of the cars there I'm most consistent with the Supra, but on my first lap with the F40, I was like 2s faster at least. I definitely am not consistent at all with the Ferrari currently, I'll give the Lambo a shot. I think I'm just bad with Italian cars though 😂

Usually I am most comfortable with Japanese manufacturers, but outside of maybe the Mazda, I feel like I'll have a tough time competing with those two based off current times.

Thanks to one of the daily races is at Suzuka I got to test a bunch of cars for the Manu Cup yesterday. I do like the Lamborghini so far in my testing. I have been doing the actual race with the McLaren with some success. The only problem I with the McLaren is it getting caught real quick in the straights. Still might pick them anyway due to me being familiar with McLaren already.

Gonna be crazy to race 35 laps with the VR headset on, but I worked hard to get first time ever to DR A, so I will give it a try :) I won Suzuka a couple times with DR B this week, driving the Porsche. Should be a solid choice for the other tracks as well right? If I wanna be competitive I can’t experiment here

For me I don’t think the game is in a position to offer GT2 & GT3 drivers the longer races. It would be nice to be given the option to choose between short or long races.
The biggest problem for GT2/3 is the grid size. 16 car grids are too for small for longer races, especially when people quit early. Also the skill gap can sometimes get stretched which then means your racing in your own.
GT1 can just about get away with this from what I’ve seen as you find the skill gap is very close so you get closer racing.
FYI I’m not saying all GT2/3 are bad or poor drivers, but just going from my experience.

Agree. When you compare GT7 to other esports sims, GT7 is way behind. Other esports the races are minimum 60mins, strategy (tyres/fuel), damage model and a better weather system.
Still not sure strategy is correct yet. You normally find everyone has the same strategy and pits on the same 2 laps. I think allowing drivers to set there own fuel limits before the race starts would be a good option.
Damage model is not great. Light damage is ok, but heavy damage from minimal contact means you have to pit. They need a medium where contact effects the car a bit but you don’t need to pit.
Weather. Need to slow that weather speed down. Moves way to fast, and they need to have a pre race weather forecast. (Ive heard this is already in the game and was used in the Showdown but is not available yet for players)

Didn't know who to pick. Simulated the Hunger Games to choose for me.

Left out Dodge (picked them last time), Citroen (car bad I go to bed) and Suzuki (I forgot they existed) but they created an overflow of participants anyway so they were worthy sacrifices.

So I've all but decided on my picks:

1 - McLaren or Porsche
2 - Dodge
3 - Porsche or McLaren

The 1 & 3 accounts don't have to 'worry' about their Gr4 counterparts - which is more of a concern for Porsche than McLaren - but I have concerns about both manus' lack of top end. Both these Gr3 cars eat Nords for breakfast, but the only real places to pass there are on the straights. I can't see the Porsche getting by a Supra or Ford GT on the back straight. Hopefully their good tire wear and handling are enough to make up for it.

I think I spend way too much time over analyzing this stuff.

That’s half the fun 👍🏼

I like the fact the double suicide fails but they still die anyway.

My randomisation process brought me back to the first Manu I had on GT7 with Lexus.

I ended up going with Porsche on the main. Still undecided what I’ll do with my other accounts. My main reason for going with Porsche, was I feel it’s the car I’m most consistent with. It’s an MR that is more like an FR than anything. Yes, it lacks top end. But in these longer races, I don’t think it’ll matter much. Years of real life endurance racing (albeit dirtbikes), has taught me that consistency over the long haul, will typically bring you towards the front in individual races, but it will always pay massive dividends over the course of a season.

Plus I really like the cockpit view of the RSR in VR.

Since the Porsche is such a neutral handling car, I think I’m going to pick 3 different cars for all 3 accounts. Whereas when I went with Ferrari last season, I was forced to use it with all 3 accounts, being that the 458 GT3 requires such a different approach, and nuanced race strategy.

My top pics for my other 2 accounts are the

Mazda RX Vision
Tom’s Castrol Supra
The normal Supra 🤮
Mclaren

…..and Ferrari ☠️

Did a quick one lap test at Deep Forest with all the cars. Also noted the top speed at the end of the front straight in km/h just before I hit the wall.

Supra 1.37 / 262
NSX 1.41 / 252
BMW 1.39 / 265
Nissan 1.37 / 265
996 1.37 / 264
Jag 1.36 / 263
Vette 1.37 / 263
AMG 1.36 / 259
F40 1.32 / 295
Diablo 1.33 / 302
Ford 1.35 / 265
RXV 1.36 / 260

Apart from the top 2 fastest (F40, Diablo) and bottom 2 (NSX, BMW), all the others are pretty close tbh. If PD removed these 4 cars we would actually have a pretty good BOP. Everything handles and brakes much better than the F40/Diablo as well so people in the lower lobbies can also have fun without going off in every braking zone. If you're struggling with consistency in the F40 give the Ford GT a try. Its 3 seconds slower a lap and you'll get mugged on the straights but in the lower lobbies where people crash often you might get a good result just by keeping it on the road and staying penalty free.

Oh and the Jag sounds absolutely fantastic. I'm surprised how close it is to the real thing

I picked McLaren as my manu for the EMEA account last season and was able to hold my own around the Nord (was Nurb endurance layout rather than 24hr) in a GT1 lobby. Started P6 and finished P3.

A Supra won the race, though.

Had my throttle spring break while do some Nations practice laps tonight! Used the clutch spring to get going again but it is definitely stiffer than the throttle spring was previously.
Did more practice afterwards and I adapted well.
Guess maintenance was due 🙄

So glad it broke tonight and not during series race😬
Thankful for that!

I don’t have a clue what manus to go for this off season. Official season I was Genesis which I loved. Both Gr3 and Gr4 cars for me were great. Don’t really want to go Genesis again as I like to mix it up.

As I have fuel saving in Gr4 cars I really don’t know what to go for…
Don’t play the game much anymore so don’t really know what good in Gr4 no more. I fancy Porsche but then the Cayman is too slow (but good on fuel), BMW could be a pick for me, but is the Gr4 car any good? Nissan a choice but I dont like the GTR Gr4 plus Silvia will be bad in the fuel races. Ferrari Gr4 is nicest car to drive for me, but the Gr3 is a pig I think (although suspension changes maybe help now). Might start at the beginning and go back in the AMG…

GT1 guys have it easy. Only have to think about 1 car to pick

After doing a bit of practise this weekend I'm not sure now the GVH round is a fuel saver. You need to save about 4 laps of fuel to do a no-stop on hards, it seems faster to go 10S/4H (or vice versa) as the pit doesn't take too long. Haven't tried the other Gr4 round as I detest Seaside in any direction so skipping that one.

Ive just done a little bit of testing now in the Ferrari which I believe is the best car on fuel?

Seaside Reverse is defo a 1 stop, full push and refuel. Use both RS and RH. My calculations are that you will lose too much time trying to save 5 extra laps of fuel on RH. Pit loss not too bad I don’t think here.
Grand Valley could be either… no stop possible I think, but depends how much quicker the RS and full push is. Pit lane loss not too bad here.

I think I’m just going to go with the 1 stop and quick car method.

Man, 75-ish minutes of Suzuka is going to be a looong race, especially with cars getting damaged and having to pit, spreading out the field even more... Mental focus is definitely going to be at a premium.
And it's looking like a no-stop race if you don't pick up any major damage...

And it's looking like a no-stop race if you don't pick up any major damage...

I thought the same thing and then checked out the shoot out round at Suzuka.

Maybe rain ☔️ ??
In the shootout their lap time went up to 2:20s if I remember correctly.

I certainly hope for rain in as many races as possible. I wish this would help me mitigate being terrible with tyre wear by playing on a controller in GT1 races. Went for Alfa, as it drives nice in the corners. Feeling confident with the car I feel like will make a lot of difference over such long races. Still not quite consistent with the T1 at Suzuka, but I am 9th Alfa so far on the leaderboard.

With that rain, it’ll be a gamble with damper settings. Too soft in the dry for anticipation of rain, and response suffers. However, if it rains for 75% of the race, you’re a hero.

Tough choice between going with something I know well (McLaren or Porsche) or going something left field that no-one will be using.... just for something different...

Nations Cup news: PD has removed the F40, Diablo, Jaguar F-Type, M3, and NSX-R from the car list. The English article is currently inversely worded, because the car list posted there is the list of remaining selectable cars.

The Japanese version is slightly better worded, though it contains a typo in the year.

I was going to say, are engine swapped cars (Ferrari F40) accepted, but as the post above me states, the Ferrari and 3 others have been removed. So never mind.
