I do sympathise to an extent.

It's like having your favourite song covered by Ed Sheeran.
What if your favourite song is an Ed Sheeran song?

Full disclaimer: I am not an Ed Sheeran fan. :D

I think I have made up my mind now after initially being unsure. The new Grand Valley is better
The new generation that will grow with this new Grand Valley may one day want to know what the old version was like...

I feel that they can disappoint a little...

I wonder if PD are gonna change the name in an update? The amount of backlash on this is comparable to Tekken 8's heat mechanic.

Anywho I havent ran this track yet but looking forward to it. Brings up the question...are older GT titles in the PS Store outside of Sport? They should put those titles out there so people can play their favorite versions of tracks more easily. shrugs

Love the new Grand Valley based on public roads with all the beautiful scenery, but I do miss the vibe of the dedicated racing track with the grand stands and rumble strips. In my opinion, the fictional yet realistic motorsport venues are one of the things Polyphony does best.

For those who dream that one day PD will bring GVS back, it is better to remove any expectations. I believe the new GVH was produced with assets to work on GT8, GT Sport 2, GT9 etc. Making a new circuit from scratch takes time and resources. Perhaps some details will be changed in the future, but I bet Big Sur will remain the backdrop of GVS for a long time to come. I think it hard to believe that PD will give a new scenario to GVS during the next ten years.

No. Only way to get PS3-era or older would be if they were added to the PS Plus streaming catalogue, but the licences have probably expired. Similar to the delisted Forza games.

I'm also now convinced it was very deliberately chosen to release alongside the VR update, not just to give us this big update that satisfies everyone, but having watched a few videos now of people playing Grand Valley in VR, it appears to be very much geared towards that experience. Especially with the more undulating nature of the track, the open vistas, open sided bridges and so on, looks very much like they wanted this track to be synonymous with the VR update.
Given how GT has been used to showcase something from Sony several times (GT4 with the Eye Toy that gives you the Nike One, GT5 with 3D TVs and GT Sport with the first PS VR), that doesn't seem far fetched.

If you look closely, PD or GT are still top at Sony. They are the first to release a comprehensive GT experience on VR, now other devs may follow suit. It's somewhat similar to GT1 and PS1. Even though ACC and Iracing can have VR, it's too expensive to get even close to this level of fidelity. PD is once again paving the way, now in VR, for the mainstream.

Edit: adding to RACECAR's point about Sony making PD release GVS with VR

Personally I like it of course I never had any strong connections to the OG version.

Also am I the only one that thinks that gr1 event is weird I just don't think gr1 cars and this track fit.
Gr1s are a bit weird on what feels more like a road car course now.
Maybe PD really should bring back the OG version just for those.

I'm loving role-playing that I'm driving on the street IRL. Pushing it here and there while trying to stay in my lane. Pretending that I'm a car reviewer.

Since we can't have open world driving, this track is the closest thing for this. So I for one am glad it's not a dedicated race track, and they really gave it the feel of a real street

The new look is growing on me but it's such a strange thing, the elevated photographs really show a pretty/scenic track but when I'm driving on it it's hard to see anything scenic! It's weird how empty it feels in places. The phot shots of the bridges looks really cool but when I'm driving on it I don't see any of that. I wish they'd added a bit more elevation changes so the track had better views when driving.
When the game is viewed in VR(as Kaz said the whole game was developed for), everything about the driving experience makes sense.

Didn't remember people complain that much when we switch from PS2 to PS3 and a lot of tracks environments changed.

If you're locked in nostalgia, just play the old games.

I really like the fact that they got rid of the old chicane, it killed the flow of the track too much.
and the new chicane didn't worsen the entire flow of sector 3 here?

PD is Sony’s go to studio for tech demonstrations. They are no longer at the top of making Sony games.

That is interesting, I find the final chicane in GVS to be probably the most out of place of all the corners, so the change in GVH1 I find has much improved the flow and feels more cohesive with the rest of the track. The tighter tunnel followed immediately by the chicane means you have to consider the three corners as one continuous flow rather than 2 separate corners. Car positioning is very important and that changes further when you are battling with opponents.

Another thing that makes Highway 1 a weird choice for Grand Valley is the fact that PD already placed SSRX along the Californian coastline. Then we also have Blue Moon Bay within close reach. Come on PD, there’s a whole world to explore for original circuits and you fixtate on California?

Came here to the forum after playing some GT7 and I'm surprised to see there is a backlash on the track XD I found it super cool that they reimagined a layout on an entirely different setting. Sure, I fail to see the "valley" in "grand valley"but heck, the track is so cool, makes me want to take some of the slower cars (like the DS Pallas!) and pretend im a Hagerty car reviewer or something. If I were to make any comment on it is that I still think their roads look quite wide for RL standards (same for Trial Mountain, western mountain roads in the US are way narrower than that).

To me it felt like an absolute love letter to GT, track really felt like driving on highways, but the layout felt right at home after years playing GT.

I do agree with this though x3 I thought SSRX would be somewhere very outlandish like Greenland or Patagonia, but it's all California hahah

I love narrow tracks personally. I hope they bring back Costa Di Amalfi next.

And Citta di Aria!
Racing the streets of Assissi was wild. And immensly beatiful.
But Amalfi had some length and was less frustrating trying to gain position.
Imagine five laps with a 20 strong grid on Citta… with three or four 🌶. 😱

An original location is no longer original.

It's almost as if PD have no sense of imagination anymore. They aren't game designers according to Kazunori they're "artists". Well artists can usually make art using their imagination and without needing to copypasta reality.

"Green field with mountain and river" is hardly the bastion of originality, is it? The same setting applied to literally every original track we have in the game. Deep Forest, Trial Mountain and High Speed Ring really could've all been next to each other.

The irony of talking about "copypastaing" whilst they've actually deliberately moved the track away from being another Green Racetrack to something else is actually hilarious. People will pick absolutely anything to have a whinge at without even thinking about what they're moaning about.

Yes just so it looked like a race track it now needs to be changed to a highway. Make the highway its own layout instead of using grand valley layout and replacing the whole scenery and people will be happy. If you don't like the green race tracks don't watch the motorsport there are green racetracks everywhere, but doubt many GT fans watch motorsport anyway, seem to me more a car collecting driving game in 2023. Super GT said he prefer to have OG Grand Valley Speedway on twitr, he express the thoughts of us, he is big youtuber.

As I say, we should make Trial Mountain as Mount Everest location, and you people will call it originality, to hell with the old scenery. Deep Forest can be in Amazon next, we will race beside trees with monkeys and parrots everywhere, this is the Originality we have now.
