The funny thing is that the R8 lms/R16 it is a street production car with a few upgrades and no 4wd. It's in the game all they have to do is add the splitter, cage, wing, and turn off awd.

The R8 Grand Am is a highly modified version though to fit the Grand Am rule book.

It is. But it is seriously a production car with a chassis modification under it. It's the same body, same engine, etc. Stripped down with racing equipment. The engines ran at least Spa and Nürburgring without rebuilds. The Grand Am cars are going to try to run the entire 15 race season without a rebuild.

This is the basics of it:

Quattro GmbH takes a standard production chassis from the production line in Neckarsulm as base for every R8 LMS. After the roll-cage is fitted the R8 LMS is completed at the quattro GmbH. The Audi Hungaria Kft. production line in Györ provides the 500 hp plus V10 engine. Audi Sport in Ingolstadt assumes absolute responsibility for project development.

Much like the R8 Prototype, the R8 LMS may be be the perfect GT Race Car.
