GRID Autosport First Impressions

^Anyone else using a G27 with GAS?
Yup, no issues. I'd try booting the console with the G27 and not turning a controller on at all. I find if I turn a controller on at any point, I lose all the wheel button assignments and maybe it's a part of that. Boot the system with the wheel and make sure all the controllers are off.

I find the Street races to be the least competitive of any of the series. Despite the reverse grid, I'm routinely demolishing the field. I'm in the third series (12 races!) and 3x so I have plenty of time to pass, but I was winning by 10-20 seconds on the first few races.

I've stopped going into practise and am just learning the tracks as I go around now, but because it's only different layouts within the same cities I kind of know most of the corners already. Still winning by 5+ seconds. I think I'm up to race 7 or 8 and I've won every single one so far.

The other disciplines have been much more hard fought.

I'd agree with that - it's the only discipline I have won any titles in (not counting Tuner, which I just set to very easy). In a 25 lap race around the shortest San Francisco circuit, I lapped everyone from third place down, even on hard difficulty. I was consistently three seconds a lap quicker; I was in the 0:45s, while the AI could only manage a 0:48.

But I have found them to be considerably more competitive on the faster and more open circuits. I had a string of wins and podiums, then limped home to seventh around Washington Park.

Thanks I'll give that a try when I get home.

I've been doing street on hard yesterday and had to fight for the win. Liking the discipline a lot to be honest :D

So....having decided yesterday that sharing the game wasn't going to work ( Pete would have ended up buried under the patio!) I bought myself a copy of the game. I've just completed my first season of street races...1st in the drivers championship, Team Kicker 2nd. Going in to the last race I just had to beat the two Intel drivers. Started last on the grid with both of them ahead of me. My tactics when starting last have been to let the guys in front beat each other up, then pick them off one by one. So off we go, at Barcelona, and I'm just starting to make a move on the Intel guys when they collide. Next thing, I'm looking at the roof of one of the Intel cars as it's up in the air heading right for me. I screamed like a girl! Allowed, I guess, as I am one. :D

Still don't know how either it missed me or I missed it!

I'm not ashamed to admit that when the race was over and I'd won the Championship, I jumped out of my rig and did a victory dance round the front room. This game is THAT involving!

Now about to start season two having jumped ship to Team Monster Energy. Purely for the Integra R instead of the BRZ. :)

So after reading the reviews here I gave the game a go. Tried it for half an hour yesterday.

I tried Grid 2 but could not figure out the handling, I just was not able to understand how to drive the cars.

Autosport on the other hand felt completely natural with a controller, I could drive the cars fine from the moment I started. When I made a mistake I got punished and I could understand why.

Proper practice qualifying and race. Yay! 👍

The AI seems good, although I would appreciate them not taking me out on a straight.
Them bullying me in a corner I can handle but on the straight, felt like I was participating in the Ginetta jr race around Oulton recently.

Looking forward to try it out with my DFGT.

I'm finding it impossible to only play for half an hour. I was in a lobby at 00:30 last night and said "right guys....I'm off to bed"...... 2 hours later, I was still sat there playing.... lol :D

Well folks, I GOT the game! :D

My first impression: GA is a very good, immersive racing game that demands lots of hard work to reap the rewards.

Here's what I love about it:

* Visuals are great. You see those signature ultra-sharp Codies visuals with virtually no aliasing.
* Engine sounds are convincing. Gosh, I love how the tires sound when breaking loose and gaining traction.
* Physics are something that will appeal to casual racers as well as pure sim-heads.
* Lots to do, replay value seems top-notch, even if you don't do MP.
* The no wheel cockpit view is a brilliant idea, don't know why.. just love it!
* The way the game handles reminds me a lot of TOCA. The cars actually react the way they would IRL, depending on your inputs. Great blend of physics Codies!

Things I wish had been done somewhat better:

* The exclusion of a proper cockpit view is fine, however, dials should at least work
* No wheel blur? Hmmmm......
* Engine sounds are very well done, though I wish some cars had more grunt in their engine and exhaust notes, especially when you ease off the throttle. I was driving a Silvia around Sepang and it sounded brilliant, so did the same Silvia in a drift event. However, I was hoping to hear a louder turbo and a prominent blow off valve sound. Then I was driving a Camaro in a time trial event, it sounded good from the chase and cockpit view, but the bumper/hood, meh not so much. A V8, especially a modded one ought to have a louder bark. Also, the Audi touring car you race around Hockenhiem ring when you start the game, sounds good, but I was expecting it to sound a little louder and more menacing.
* Tire smoke effects are very impressive to look at in GA. Pretty much the same as GRID II. Though, they should gradually start to come off the tires. Even the smallest slide or brake jam instantly gives birth to a big could! It should be progressive - just like it dissipates when you regain traction or come to a stand still. (Still very impressive to look at in replays I must say)
* Noticed a bit of banding in the car reflections, particularly around the spot where it catches the sun. Some liveries are a little pixelly.
* Bumper view is the same from GRID II, which isn't a bad thing. Though the cam should dive and rise more with braking and acceleration - it gives a good sense of cornering, but accel/decel should be slightly improved, instead of just shaking.

This is still a GREAT game. A big step for Codies. I'm loving every minute of it.

Congratulations Codies and anim8rtyuy345UK! You guys have a solid product on your hands.

Hope to see more "serious" and "hardcore" circuit and rally racing games from you guys in future. Keep it up, very happy with my purchase!

You must be very very happy @Speedster911 , you even posted your impressions twice :D 👍

It's my douche bag internet..some kinda lag goin' on I think.

I love it. Forza ain't gonna be gettin' no play time for a while!

It's because a lot of people who play the game use a steering wheel. And because they use a steering wheel, they already have one in front of them. They don't need a second on-screen.

The cockpit movement and engine sounds are VERY well done.

Turn multiturn on and tweak from there. Feels pretty good.

Is there a demo of GAS available on the PS Store?

Just played for 3 hours and it felt like 1. My best finish after ten races in open wheel, street and tuner was 4th. Dead last in drifting of course. :sly:

Street race at Washington was awesome. I was in the Kicker Golf R and had just taken the lead on the last lap when I nipped a guardrail and punctured my left front. Ended up 5th and I was still happy about it.

Very, very engaging and I can see the diverse career mode taking a long time to finish. Stop thinking and buy it.
