Hey All :),

Sorry for delay I figured I'm getting a little bit like Kaz in that I'll say a date/time for release and miss it by a little but..... it's here so don't panic! As I keep banging on about they will all be released by the 11th so please don't panic :). I've also come up with a new process which will help get them out that tiny bit quicker (Reduces initial output by 1-2 hours which is helpful). Here's the dodge viper, sorry the voice is a bit quieter in this one as it was really late and didn't want to wake anyone up!

I'm expecting (Rather than stating factual information) that I will get the next one out on Friday, 2 on Saturday and 1 Sunday to catch up with the slight backlog I have.

These videos are great, aside from the BOP info we are getting it’s really good info about the cars as well. Narrated really well, informative and clear.

Your times are awesome!

I don’t want to go off thread, but just a quick question if I can, wondering whether you find the slightly bigger rim size of the fanatec wheel better than the smaller Thrustmaster? I’m finding it difficult to be as smooth as I want with the T300 small rim size wondering if I changed to the bigger Ferrari rim it would help? Although you appear to be fast with any wheel!!

Cheers for the kind compliments :)! I try and put across a little information so that the driving style can be understood a bit so glad to hear it's helping! In terms of the wheel, it potentially could help but it also could hinder. So for example the hairpin at Suzuka is now more difficult with this wheel as I feel I'm overturning my arms more than with the T300 however it does help with smoothness for sure. Potentially a bigger wheel may help if you're struggling as you're degrees of movement will have less of an impact (Doing a video on that but with pedals at some point) but I wouldn't break the bank to solve this. Maybe if you can increase the FFB if you're struggling to be smooth or reduce it as it could be whatever force you have it on now you're arms or brain doesn't like for 1 reason or another (Sounds very weird I know but it could be possible).

In case I hadn't said it already, these BOP tests are quite informative. They help me get better acclimated to each car and what I need to do to get the speed out of them.

I'm pretty sure you're aware of this already but there is one caveat to the comparision: it does not factor tire wear and fuel consumption. It could be just my driving style but so far, my times in MR cars are lower overall compared to FR cars when tire and fuel are on. That and matching times to your rivals isn't necessarily equal if your rival gains multiple seconds on you during a pit stop.

I know PD tries to adjust for this as well although I get the impression there's an imbalance in this department as well. For me, that combined with ideal lap times render certain cars even less competitive than they already are but that's difficult to quantify.

Glad you're liking them :)!

Yup indeed I am so right at the start I sort of hinted that we will either have to do all the fuel and tyre wear tests all in 1 go in 1 patch or not at all due to the fact the tyres and fuel is something we can't change and we also can't see! There's another post regarding fuel somewhere and they've said they don't mind me adding those figures in so we'll see what we do once we've done the initial testing by the 11th. I'm also going to retest any cars which have had their BoP changed but just put it into 1 video to explain the changes and show what impacts they've had :).

Personally I'd rather they remove fuel and tyre wear and went with pure BoP test pace imagine a race where 10 different cars all can fight for the victory... a dream of mine for sure! There's definitely been improvements in fuel from the last race I did but if they insist on keeping with this then I think to properly balance out it's going to be to hard as in 1 sense you'll have a practice mode where 1 car is supreme and a race a completely different outcome due to tyre and fuel :(.

I’ve been waiting for this one!

Glad it’s way down in 8th place, don’t want more people to start using the Viper muahaha *rubs hands in sinister fashion*

@Tidgney, Thanks for the advice much appreciated, I have played with FFB but I think I found my sweet spot at 3. 2 was too loose not enough feel, but four although it did feel smoother, too stiff for me at least in technical stuff.

I do find it difficult in some hairpins to get enough turn with the standard wheel but I think this problem is easier to overcome. Prime example where I’m not smooth with more with say GR2 through faster corners getting what almost feels like a step change in FFB mid corner, initially it’s lighter on turn in so I over compensate, hoping a larger rim would smooth this out a bit.

Couple of other reasons to change think the Ferrari rim is more authentic, t300 being so small feels unnaturally small compared to driving an actual car. Plus my actual car comes with an Alcantara steering wheel and like that so would probably like it on my rig!

Thanks again, great help! Sorry for going off topic again!

@Tidgney Loving these vids and all the other content on your channel, these vids have given me the kick up the a** to try out some different cars, I only tended to stick to the same 3-4 gr3 cars before hand.

Any plans to hit gr4 when gr3 is finished?

Hey everyone :),

So, ever since the big BoP change a few patches ago I've personally not been overly happy in terms of the balance of performance so I wanted to see if my thoughts were justified! So what I've decided to do is test each and every group 3 car at 5 different tracks. Originally it was going to be 6 but I'm not consistent enough at Bathurst yet and I believe Interlagos and brands hatch respectively cover Bathurst quite well in terms of undulations. Here's a video explaining how the test will work;

If you don't want to watch the video the 5 tracks and the reasons behind them are;
  • Brands Hatch GP: Downforce Track, Undulations, Use of Kerbs
  • Dragon Trail: Very Kerb heavy, Very fast track, Not hugely technical, 1 Key corner for stability
  • Interlagos: Large amount of Undulations, Use of Kerbs, Acceleration up the hill
  • Nurburgring GP: Balanced Track, Technical sections, Long Straights, Chicane Stability tested
  • Suzuka: Balanced Track, Technical Sections, Long Straights, No Kerb Abuse, Very trail braking dependant
All 5 tracks I'm very consistent at usually so it should give a balanced test. I want to capture the speed at a given point which currently is at the cones before 130R however I'm still reviewing this. I keep hold of ALL the test sessions so I can revisit any one of the pieces of video footage to change this if required. My aim at the end of the test is to see which cars are the strongest and which are the weakest across the 5 tracks. In my personal opinion I believe there should be 5/6 if not 10 cars all very close at each of the given tracks and that the gap across all cars at all of the tracks shouldn't really be over 1-2 seconds. Some cars will be stronger at some tracks than others and those at the bottom end and potentially at the top we will commit to new BoP changes and see if we can bring the field closer together.

Here is the current standings of the test;

Wk70xiEh.png

Yg5Qx5oh.png

Just to explain the spreadsheet a little;
  • Risk Indicator: How risky is the car to drive and also the ability to catch it. Higher the number the higher the risk (1-10). It's in my personal opinion that a riskier car should be slightly faster as you will be less consistent in the car.
  • Suzuka Top Speed: Currently based at 130R, it's to test acceleration and top end at that point. A car with a higher top end speed may be harder to overtake and therefore if also very quick at tracks may need a penalty.
  • Current BoP: This is on due to the fact a patch could arrive at any moment so this is the Balance of Performance at the time of the test. Please note that this is the Circuit BoP and not the Oval BoP which are different!
  • Rec. BoP: If we decide to change a BoP on a car after the initial tests this will be our recommended BoP.
  • Current: Is literally the current BoP time.
  • Change: Is the new time based on a new BoP.
  • Total Current Time: Total of all the current times.
  • Total Change Time: Total of all the changed BoP times.
Now each test takes me about 2 hours. I also keep the video footage so I have to render each of these (I also record the best lap replay) which takes me another 3 hours. I then have to edit the actual car profile video which takes at least another hour and then upload the video which takes about 3-4 hours due to my internet upload speed. So do bear with me with this as I also work and I am trying to compete at the same time as well! I'm hoping for at least 2 car profiles a week.

Lap Times/Lap Count

Lap times are not just the fastest lap that I do in that given session it's actually based on the optimal. This is because I could be there all day going for the fastest lap and that could be a 1 in 10 chance. Instead getting a 1 in 10 chance in each of the sectors on different laps is much easier and should actually give us a more accurate test. Yes occasionally you may blitz a sector on 1 track but that's a factor that will always happen in any testing which is why we've picked 5 tracks to reduce this happening.

I also do a minimum of 10 laps, and may go to 11 or 12 if I feel I'm missing a big bulk of time due to a mistake. You can always go faster on a lap so I'm not after the ultimate pace but to be on fairly quick laps to judge where a car is.

FAQ

Why are you doing car profiles?

There's more to just a BoP test with each car as they each have their own characteristics. A prime example are the 2 cars already completed. Alfa is MR and Aston is FR and drive very differently and perform differently at each track. I figured it would be best to explain what causes some of the issues with each of the cars.

Why not look at fuel?
The problem with looking at fuel which is another area of testing that is probably required is that you have to do the entire car list all in 1 go. If a patch comes in that changes the usage of fuel it effectively ruins the test as we can't actually enter how much fuel a given car should use.

Why not Group 4?
Group 4 might be looked at in the future, group 3 is my favoured car category so I will continue to work on this currently.

What do you hope to accomplish from this?
Personally I like to know which cars are strong and which are weak. I could do this test in private and not tell a soul but I'm a big advocate of fair and clean racing. To me the fairest way to race is to give out this information and let people then choose which car is right for them. I've also no idea how GT Staff do the BoP testing internally and I know for example some companies aren't allowed to BoP cars without the manufacturers authorisation (I'm assuming this is why when the RCZ and 911 were relatively equal the RCZ got a massive nerf and the 911 got a tiny one). You also never know who reads these forums so GT may look at this thread and just keep an eye on it and BoP accordingly to it? Who knows, I just think it's a good way to identify strong/weak cars and hopefully contribute to a better GT Sport experience!

If you feel I'm doing something wrong or would like something adding to this let me know. In addition I do take requests to bump a car up the list and I've had one today so the Lexus will be in fact coming very soon!

Could you please add.. in this 1st introduction of the thread a link that my allows us to download the spreadsheet?? Please???? That woul be very.. very nice! :)

Thanks!!!

Sorry for delay I figured I'm getting a little bit like Kaz in that I'll say a date/time for release and miss it by a little but..... it's here so don't panic!

You will be like Kaz in that way when you start delaying stuff by 6-12 months. Its all good, keep it up.

Hey All,

Sorry forgot to post here last night but this got released yesterday :D! Another one will appear later tonight as well :P! It's the Toyota FT-1 VGT, a car I actually was looking forward to testing as I've never driven it! In addition you can now view the spreadsheet LIVE with additional information just check the first page :).

Honestly don't worry, happy to answer questions and it does relate a little in the fact I changed wheels haha :). Actual race car wheels are kinda small to which I guess is why they've gone down that route :embarrassed:.

Legend :D!

Haha, fair enough :D! I'm not actually far behind my schedule although I might have to be done by the 9th rather than 11th now depending on things so means even more of a push :P

Sorry but I truly don´t understand what you mean... the Spreasheet has no download link (to my knowlege) ... and "viewable live" is not the same thing.. believe me...

Its an embed link to google sheets (I think), the spreadsheet on Page 1 is the spreadsheet, an offline version doesn't exist.

Can you not copy/paste from the spreadsheet? Why would you want to download it each time I update it out of curiosity?

Another Car Profile is now up, and another one is being uploaded tomorrow :D! The one today though is the BMW Z4 GT3 car and once again more interesting findings, and the car does have some strengths, so enjoy :)!

In terms of the spreadsheet I've added a link in the first page to access it a little easier, every time I put the whole link the media stuff attaches it self so creates a preview so it's inside a "Click here" text instead!

Mclaren will be out tomorrow :).

This is a really nice work. Thanks!

P.s. is someone else doing something like this for GR2? I know there’s only 3 cars atm but this also helps to benchmark the lap times for different tracks.

Thanks!! Keep up the nice job!

Special additional request: - I believe it would be truly interesting if you could add 2 columns of important data... both as "sub columns" from Current Bop main issue, and parallel to Power and Weight % columns! You should add the real corresponding values in Hp and .. kgs or lbs ... :)

Hey All,

The next BoP test is here, as you can tell I'm getting through these quite quick now! Next one will hopefully be Friday if not Saturday! But to this test, it's the Mclaren 650s GT3 car and there's some absolutely huge surprises in this one so enjoy :)

Cheers for the compliments :D! In terms of group 2 I'm not sure? It should be fairly easy to do with just 3 cars I know people keep asking me to do one but I've not finished group 3 yet and I'm planning on doing some BoPing to group 3 to see if we can pull them all a bit closer :P!

Hahahahahaha :)!

Cheers mate! There's actually going to be that information going in PLUS a few more columns of information when I get round to it so keep an eye out :).

There was a new lexus out a few patches ago that I need to add as well as the Supra I mean lol

ah! :) ok.. I thought the Lexus was already in the game some time ago... I use it often! And also on Manufacturers Cup... When I sign fro Lexus! :)

Hey All,

The next car profile / BoP test is available to you and it's the Hyundai Genesis Gr3 car! Very interesting car, I also think the base is actually a GTR but no turbo and some tweaks? Could be wrong but it feels like it at least! It also feels better than the GTR and the times show it I guess :D!

In addition please can I have your opinion on Nurburgring GP being in this test? With the addition of tyres (Tyre walls) now in FIA races I feel that nurburgring times are not relevant anymore as you used to be able to run wide which is what I've done but now you can no longer do this... and I've always had the worry in my mind the chicane can impact on the test results? In fact I believe that's probably the weakest part of the test currently apart from me of course haha! Question is does it stay in? Or do I stop running it for the test?

Enjoy the profile / test though :D!

For me, the biggest issue is that these barriers will likely be making appearances at every track. It is going to affect the lap times and possibly the risk indicator if certain cars really need that wider arc to be effective. I find them completely unnecessary but this is the hand that we've been dealt.

Unfortunately, this may be a wait-and-see deal until we determine the placement of theses barriers at all the tracks. My guess is that Nurburgring will be affected the most by this because of the chicane but the test may be incomplete without adding a substitute track. I don't know what that could be, though.

Personally keep in Nürburgring, yes it’s gonna vary for fia events but the majority have been tested here now and it’s still a balanced track to test the cars on.

If the barriers were there for the time trial I would say ditch it, but as there are not it’s still on a level playing field for this test.

Thanks for the advice by the way! 👍

I did race Suzuka last night in the top 24 superstars (Yay 2nd place in the RCZ :D, although I already know before the BoP test that car needs more speed as I couldn't keep up on straights :D). I don't think any of the barriers there are harmful, maybe by a slight tenth here and there especially if I cut the chicane to much in the past but minimal impact.

In terms of other tracks, Dragontrail won't have them I reckon, Interlagos may have it on some exits but I never run wide really and I'm not sure where they can put it at brands? Maybe the exit of graham hill but again minimal impact as you can change your line and have very minimal impact. Nurburgring has always been in the back of my mind as the weakness among the 5 and with this now I am thinking of taking it out, in fact there's quite a few thumbs up votes on 1 post recommending this.

Even before the tyres I've been noticing the chicane is having significant impact as there's a 4 tenth difference between fastest and slowest and it's 1 corner and I know for sure that will be the chicane causing this. Other sectors have this difference but that's multiple corners so highlights more of an issue.

That's very true about time trial as that was my initial worry. What I'm thinking of doing and this to be honest with you is to stop Nurburgring for now (Stop vs keep, stop seems to be winning at the moment). Then what has been in the back of my mind and in the long term future of the project is to add more tracks eventually? So what I'd do is revisit nurburgring and focus more on staying inside the track limits rather than abusing the exit of turn 4, which we could do but now can't. As that will have a significant impact on some cars and I've mentioned that in some of the profiles where I've ran extremely wide to minimise over steer due to weight transfer.

Eventually we could have 10/15/All tracks on this list and a very clear vision, I wouldn't be making a car profile for each track either as that would take me eons but there would be updates with it. Gr.3 // GT3 is my favourite class, and by some margin in this game which is why I'm focused so much on it :D!

Nice job on 2nd. Did you do a one or two stopper?

I felt I was losing more time compared to everyone else with the barriers than without. It's only natural as a competitive racer that I'll complain about anything that costs me time.

And yes, I would remove Nurburgring. Maybe have the long Kyoto reverse layout as a substitute?
