Tried registering and it keeps giving me an error. Anyone else having an issue? Server issues maybe?

Maybe its mistaking New Hampshire as a Canadian province, and thus ineligible for the America only (not North American!) GT Academy

Can I make a suggestion to everyone. Hit the gym. Unless you race for a living or semi-professionally. If you watched the EU version you would have seen that the competition is not just a test of your driving skill but your physical endurance and strength. I know at 6ft 3in 180lbs I need to slim down and build up.

Look at the iRacing guy. He threw up in his helmet because his mind and his body were not ready to cope with the physical stress. After a couple of laps he was finished. To me this will be harder than the actual driving. The winner is not necessarily the fastest driver.

I agree; they don't want a 49 year old out of shape driver like me

This is a funny image for me:
I see a high percentage of the "top 128" being 30%+ body fat, out of shape, stereotypical, suburban, "kids."

I am 28, about 15% body fat (6'3, 190,) not in shape, sits around most of the day-type, but if I saw I had posted a high enough time, early enough, I would be doing some serious boot camp type work outs. :D

I don't know about kids being in the top 128, or +30% body fat types... But I'm sure there will be some. I say hit the gym anyways - regardless of how well you think you will do.

Practice, practice, practice... And if you're in for a real challenge look up your regional SCCA website and get involved in the real thing. This is just off-season stuff for me - not that I am a professional by any means - but behind a real wheel is still more fun...

registered about a hour ago... still no mail... Damned aol mail lol
(southwest btw)
But tried to re register and it say's i am lol

Will we have separate threads for different regions for organize practice squads?

Good idea. I'm 6'3" but I'd need to bulk up to 180lbs.

Wish I could say I need to bulk up... Not out of shape, but not race driver fit - that much is for sure.

I'm pretty sure the best real world drivers have won the previous two GT Academys...

Thank you for registering for GT Academy, your chance to become a professional race car driver through Gran Turismo 5, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

Based on the address you entered when you registered, you have been assigned to the Southeast region for the GT Academy competition. When you race, your lap times will be registered on this region’s leaderboards, which can be viewed in-game and at the official Gran Turismo website (http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/).

Round 1 of the GT Academy online tournament runs December 20, 2010 through January 23, 2011. The competition consists of a group of time trial events in Gran Turismo® 5, and you’ll need to race each event and post your fastest lap times to place on the leaderboards for your assigned region. The top 128 players per region as of January 23, 2011, will be moving on to Round 2 of the competition.

Weekly prizes for the top 20 times on the combined national leaderboard will be awarded through January 23, including Gran Turismo 5 posters, Logitech Driving ForceTM GT racing wheels, and Playseat Revolution racing seats. And just for racing in the GT Academy time trial events, you can earn free GT Academy digital content for your PlayStation®3 system.

The top 8 players per region will be flown to the National Finals event to face off for one of 16 spots in GT Academy. Those 16 finalists will compete in a series of grueling physical and mental challenges. This includes going behind the wheel of actual Nissan cars to practice and prove their driving skills. Along the way, participants will be eliminated, because there can be only one winner in GT Academy who goes on to train to become a real professional race car driver. The stakes are high. Good luck!

For complete tournament details and official rules, visit http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/2011/. Be sure to follow GT Academy on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/GTAcademyNA to stay up to date with the latest GT Academy news and updates as the competition unfolds.

Thanks for the heads up... I'm not going to come anywhere close to winning, buy i gotta try! Good luck everybody!

The Playseat Revolution will be available in January for $500 according to poduct info.

I wonder if they will have the new Thrustmaster wheel (especially for GT5) for any stage of the competition?

Just registered.

Question: Does anybody know what track the qualifying round is being held on?? I already got the 370z Tuned (GT academy version) in GT5, so im looking to get some practice in!

I honestly would start with a bone stock 370Z at your track of choice. I prefer Laguna Seca, since the chances of it being one of the tracks is pretty high.

Anyone here run the Trial from last year? How the car was tuned What car it was, What Tracks were involved? As Many details as possible please.
Laguna Seca would be a prime choice but do you think there would be a conflict with Mazda and Nissan?

Thanks for any info anyone can give

Just a thought folks, You might want to add "reply@playstation.com" to your contacts so you don't miss out on another email. Maybe the one that had the DLC codes in it. I have revived DLC through my email before from them so its a good idea to do it :)

Did you guys get DLC codes after registering? Or did the car just appear after? I am only asking because I am still at work and I can't check my PS3 haha.

I thought I might have seen someone post about getting their academy car already, nevermind then.

I registered after finding a new email to use :D
Good luck America!
I hope the competition is as tough as gtdb.net TT's that were going on a few months ago 👍

When do we get the free in game content for registering?

No clue, but I'd bet at least not before the official start of the event. If you register now, my guess is that you'll get it on the first day of the deal (Dec 20); if you sign up after the event starts, probably next time you log in.

This is, of course, just my SWAG (Statistically Wild-Ass Guess). ;)
