Yep, except Bryan's actually a multi-time National Champ. I'm excited to see how the talent plays out this year, it's going to be fun to watch! 👍
Thanks Guys, just clearing it up, I am the 2011 SCCA Solo 2 STR Solo National Champion "minus .002 seconds" - "The Runner Up." (That is not a joke or a typo
It tied the closest margin of victory in SCCA National Championship History.)
Long story short: I won day 1, was leading STR by about 1 tenth of second. STR was the biggest class at nationals (over 60 drivers I believe) and had 8 former National Champions in it. I was driving a car I had never driven before, that was underprepared, and arguably the slowest chassis in the class, an AP1 s2000. Despite the car making 20 less wheel horsewpower than the winner, less displacement, heavier, no aero and myself as a driver outweighing the winner (at the time)by nearly 80 lbs, I sat on my 2nd run on day 2 to finish overall 2nd only .002 behind 1st through 2 days. The guy who won is a "Pro" driver.
PLEASE NOTE: The reason I did not win was because I literally hit the LAST CONE ON COURSE on my day 2 final run, not because I got loose but because I brain faded saying "this is a great run, I am going to win the jacket!" and lost my reference gate in that tenth of second lapse of focus. THAT RUN would have been a nearly 7 TENTHS OVERALL WIN. Horsehoes and Hand grenades. It's all good.
This year I am undefeated (knock on wood) in SCCA National B-Stock competition in my s2000 CR, and will be competing at Nationals in September. I love autocross, and IMO, there is no fiercer
amateur competition in motorsports in the world.
Not trying to imply I am the stig's offspring; just stating the facts. Regarding GT5, I'll just say that I feel I am significantly slower in a simulator than I am in real life. My brother and I are a coin flip in terms of real world pace, and he is also an accomplished autocrosser.
I look forward to doing battle this weekend with some amazing drivers, and god willing, earning the right to battle in Silverstone. I do admit, I take great pride in saying that I am autocrosser. Outsiders will forever discount autocross because of the relatively low speed (45-75mph.) That's ok. Bryan H won last year for a reason - many others deserved it as well. But it legitmizes the sport in a very special way, in lieu of the fact that some other competitors had extensive W2W, TT and HPDE experience.
