GT Academy July 2013!!

well done looks like I got dumped gutted could see a 17.5/high 4 so many times but that was the limit for me with the t500rs was having to use high abs for some reason . Very disappointed not to get my shot this year looks like I am gonna have to get a logic wheel to qualify :ouch:

mann they could have taken 32 instead of 24 have fun guys top 6 looks wide open this year

Is there a difference in wheels for lap times? or your still used to Logitech wheels?

I recently upgraded to the t500rs but my times are still consistent with my old times on my g25.

If I'm not mistaken BanditKarter-22 managed to do 2:16.702 with his T500RS unless he switched back to G27 so T500RS should be more than enough to qualify well. Also you might still qualify, there is probably at least three people ahead of you not taking part as far as I know.

I swapped back to my G27 to do that time. I couldn't adapt to the T500RS quick enough, it didn't help that I'd already put a lot of time into the event with my G27, but I still could do 2:17.0 with the T500RS and that was after only a few hours practice with it 👍 The brake and throttle pedals are different feeling and since you have to be exactly on the limit to do top times I was loosing some time by having a bit too much wheel spin out of corners and stuff. Also will take a bit of time to adapt to the shifters that don't move with the wheel, it was hard to time gear shifts to perfection when you were going into corners, I was thinking about making some extenders to make the paddles bigger 💡

id say the logic is faster based on all the top times were set on it taking nothing away from anyone who beat me but we its only tiny margins

good luck to all you guys 👍

I see, good idea to stick with T500RS in stock form for National Finals. I doubt there is many that have that wheel so if you get used to it, should make it easier to drive away into the distance depending on who you are up against. I wonder if they will let people have more than one lap to get adjusted to steering wheel setup this year, will be interesting to see how they run it this year. Make sure if you practice to keep two wheels on track like in the time trial, this is the way they judge you. Some of the judges don't pay attention, some are much more harsh than others so it is better to be safe than get potential time penalty.

Absolutely, much better to be safe, after all I only need to be in the top 6 👍

It'll be easier next year anyway if they plan on making all the national finalists ineligible for next time...

Id prefer to have raced you guys anyway just take 16 a year to race camp if they wanna make people ineligible

sorry to nissan for spending all the money with my bright ideas 💡

To be fair at the nationals your not really in the hunt for hundredths your more just looking for a clean race. The FFB is usually low on them, but to me that's fair enough with the amount of use they get otherwise it would cost them a ton!

Yeah I had some trouble adapting to the T500RS also but I stuck to it and started seeing results. The 2.17.779 I got was with the T500RS, I did not try with the G25, maybe I should have but it doesn't matter I wouldn't of been eligible to enter, I was just trying to compete with the fastest times.

The brakes for the T500RS is not as good as the Logitech in my opinion, but before I bought the T500 I did some research and bought a brake mod kit to help stiffen the brakes. Now getting used to the brakes is much easier as it is all down to muscle memory instead of positional memory.

?!?!?

I haven't been religious with keeping up to date on this thread due to study and new work commitments but what did I just read?!?!?

I think there's something about it in the UK rules, I'm not sure if they've decided if they will yet or not, but if they do then it's a pretty stupid idea 👎

Yep 👎

PART A: ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. Eligibility

1.5.Entrants advancing to the Territory Finals (as defined below) and beyond may not be eligible to enter any future GT Academy competition.

This is fair 👍, give the chance to those who haven't been in the finals, everyone only have 1 shot at the final, not stupid idea, it's justice. Period.

It is stupid, it will just mean the competition will get easier and easier every year which is unfair on the people in earlier years. At the end of the day it's a competition and everyone has to earn their right to move onto the next stage, not get handed a place.

Not to mention that some people get bad luck at the nationals that denies them the chance they deserve.

And I agree with Spurgy, if they do decide to implement this rule then next year it will be extremely easy to qualify, and they'll be shooting themselves in the foot because they won't have as many quality drivers 👎

That's just being selfish, I disagree on this, you may call it stupid, I won't. Nissan wanted to find fresh new talents every year, if they want last year finalist ineligible, they wanted everyone only given 1 chance to prove themselves and avoid same people year after year. Now getting same old faces on the finals every year who have done the finals before with more experience than the fresh finalists - that's the stupid one.

You can't ever say it's going to be easier, we never know we will meet some great new people with raw talent/champ material, don't look down on future talents, your attitude 👍 - there's a lot of people all over the world who can get into finals, but unable to do so, they might not have the time now or not of age yet.

Don't scream unfair/stupid when lose once and can't compete next time, it's a one in a lifetime opportunity at the finals.

Quality drivers or not, who are we to judge ... the judges at the finals have the last word. Those who are in bottom row of top 32 might be better driver at the finals when handling real cars or racing. Being top ranked drivers at virtual driving won't guarantee anything.

Okay, so with spain, you have 9 world class drivers, not all of them will even get through to race camp, never mind have a chance at winning, because of the simple fact that 9 doesn't go into 1...

So you're saying that these people who have the speed but maybe get a bit of bad luck, shouldn't be able to give it another shot?

That my friend, is unreasonable.

There's more people than those 9 that deserves to have their 1st shot next year, who may be slower by a tenths at virtual driving, but can be the real winner at the end. Unreasonable is the wrong word.

Being quick at driving game do not qualify someone as world class ... simple, Nissan will look for much better things at the finals.

It is much better how it was. You can easily lose on virtual driving with a few things going wrong on national finals especially against really fast people. Very unfair, IIRC someone like Wolfgang Reip would have been eliminated with these rules if they were implemented earlier because he didn't get past the national finals virtual driving part the year before. It would be a waste of really good talent, people who put the effort in might not get chance by getting rammed by someone in day 1 of national finals. Don't see how that is fair.

So far gtacademy just wants to reserve the right to not include current finalists in the future, given that it says "may not be eligible" its just them covering themselves incase they decide on not including some folks, contracts do that so they aren't sued or something. I doubt whether they will deny people in the future.

On another note they may want fresh faces at the finals every year, possibly because they might want to extend the TV program to the finals, who knows, and if they do do that then in TV seeing the same faces every year wouldn't make a good program, would it?

I remember there was a guy in Germany who had the Ticket to Silverstone, but he broke his leg shortly before finals. What's with him he only had bad luck and with that new format he would have no chance. I think the good drivers should have the possibility to show what they can.
