I'm pretty sure Morris stated that he'd never driven a GT3 car in the initial driver reveal.

I've been very critical of him over the years, but I think he showed a (long overdue) mature drive at Bathurst with Mostert. There's no reason why he can't do the same for the 12 hour. Plus he is very experienced at the race itself, albeit with production machinery.

Mature? Are you talking about the 2014 Bathurst 1000 or where they teamed up in the 6hr?

I thought he crashed in 2014 and it was one of Paul's not so great drives, but the red flag worked for them, car was quick and Mostert pulled it together when it counted.

Anyway, he knows the track well enough so he should be able to keep it going at a reasonable pace. Hopefully he finds himself in a battle with Longhurst ;)

Yeah, I'm talking about Bathurst 2014. Like 05XR8 said, the track was breaking up and many were caught out. He had been solid all weekend, as far as I recall. Not overly fast but his driving was cleaner than usual.

There's was an incident today at Island Magic. Steve McLaughlin had to be stretchered to an ambulance before being taken to a hospital (presumably). No word on his condition at this stage.

This incident occurred coming out of the hairpin heading towards Siberia. Steve had just gotten the JamecPem Audi alongside the race leading Porsche with a great move into the hairpin, but it appears the Porsche hung tough around the outside.

The cars went out of sight but it seemed that the Audi moved left to cover the Porsche, but due to the overlap, was pitched into the Marshall post (marshalls were fine) and bank. It was a heavy side impact on the right side of the car and the bank, and also damaging to the thin tyre barrier there (took around 30-40mins to repair).

In any case, there was no major rush by the medics to get Steve in the ambulance so hopefully it's all just pre-cautionary. Still a big crash and also could affect the 12hr.

I have a pic of the car on the back of the tow truck, and apparently Blemd Line TV got footage of the accident, but I haven't seen and won't post my pic until I know more.

Edit: Just saw footage. He got out of the car quick but hadn't to lay down shortly after the crash and was then stretchered to the ambulance.

All that aside, I had a great day and enjoyed the nice surprise of getting to see the Trofeo Huracan GT3 in a competitive outing for the first time (even if it didn't really seem to be pushing).

Gainsco is switching from McLaren to Porsche.

With this switch to a Mercedes for the Bathurst 12 hour and for international GT racing, has SVG lost his McLaren contract?

As @R1600Turbo mentioned, the schedule clashes between Blancpain and VASC meant that he and McLaren decided not to renew the contract. Although, should the schedules align, I'm lead to believe McLaren have said they would be happy to resign him for 2018 or 2019.

Well, I think there was SOME coverage. I think I saw something on NBCSN or CBS Sports Network once featuring the 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Or maybe since this is more of an amateur-level race that it doesn't get as much attention. I'm not saying it should get media attention like Sebring or Le Mans, but it is surely "underrated gem" material. I WILL say that there are some rather unique prototype-style cars that race this event. I even had to look up some of them online just to learn more about them.

That Gainsco Porsche looks pretty sweet, by the way. I'm sure those boys from Dallas will be competitive with that Porsche.

Quick question: Will the thread title change to include GT4 or does GT4 belong in the Production car thread?

Anyway, back to the show.

Dig all the MARC cars. I still love that program.
My eyes will firmly be on Class C and the 4 GT-Rs in Class A.
That is a strong entry list! They're nearly all contenders for the win in Class A!
Class C and MARC V8 battle will be great to watch too. I've got my tickets, can't wait to get there :D

That's cool. Are you camping out in the new section or just going to the main event?
