I have had an interesting discussion with an anonymous source. Here are some things he said. (I do not know how reliable this source is!)

"GT7 is going to be something incredible I'm sure"

"Oh it will be, I know it for a fact actually"

"They have implemented a fully physically based lighting and global illumination."

"Light bounces around and reflect indirectly the asphalt"

me- "We believe we saw a test render of the GT7 engine last week. "

him again- "You mean from the trailer vision gt?"

"That wasn't GT7."

"I don't think you realize what GT7 looks like."

"I won't say more."

"You will know very soon. It will be a momentous occasion"

Not allowed to say this line - "*********"

"Trust me when I tell you that Polyphony itself don't know when they will reveal"

"With what I know I can tell you they could have revealed at E3 and they chose not to."

Several off topic messages later:

...Sooooo, where did ya have this "discussion"? Do tell.

I want to believe this as much as anyone, but I can't.

I mean, Polyphony Digital didn't reveal the game at E3. It's odd that they could reconcile the fact that although they are in a position where they could show it off whenever, they don't know when they will show it off, and actively chose not to at E3. If that was the case, that would be a bizarre decision from a business standpoint, considering the sim racing competition is more intense than ever, and GT7 is currently missing in action.

All the information he has given is vague, too, in such a way that neither proves anything new and concrete, but doesn't conflict with what we know so far - in short, it could be entirely true simply because it's so lacking in information. Your source has basically said:

'GT7 will be incredible, but it wasn't shown in that Bugatti trailer. It wasn't shown at E3, either, but it might be shown soon."

You don't need to be an insider or secret contact to be able to say that, because I suspect that's the view of GT7 almost everyone has now from what we know.

If GT Sports does exist, and the game concentrates on actual motorsport. I'd prefer that over GT7 personally.
I can certainly see the appeal in a more motorsport focused GT. However, I'm fearful that it will compromise many of the features that the franchise has been famous for. Content like vintage road cars, photo travel and they might even find reason to set aside original tracks in favour for real life ones. PD might not see reason to include these features if the game is more like Project Cars in terms on simulation.

Hopefully if GT Sport does become the next game, it will serve as a reboot to the franchise, rather than a focused spin off. I'd like to think that the FIA partnership alone would enhance the motorsport experience, in what is effectively a refined version of the same formula of game.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, I'm hoping the game doesn't lose the GT charm for the sake of a different title.

Interesting for sure.

I want to believe.... but.... must.... not.... board.... the.... hype.... TRAIN!!!

Thinking about it, they could potentially reboot the franchise under the 'Sport' name, and then just use the new name as the basis for future sequels. A bit like how Forza has 'Motorsport' in its title.

It's easy not boarding the hype train, if you look closely at the quotes of what he said, it kinda sounds bull even though it sounds amazing.

Let's analyze.

"GT7 is going to be something incredible I'm sure"

"Oh it will be, I know it for a fact actually"

First he says he's guessing it will be incredible. And then he says I know it for a fact. Sounds fishy.

Will we know very soon? Nah, not if PD doesn't know when they will reveal. If they chose not to, then they should know when. But since they don't know when, this all gets confusing.

Sorry @sk8er913, but I find this very hard to believe even though it would be awesome if it was true.

Sorry if this was confusing, tried to make myself clear, but lost it in confusion myself. Haha.

Speaking of reboots... what if they really are rebooting GT, and just name it "Gran Turismo"? EA did the same.
That might explian the recent trailers.... but I doubt it. I can imagine people referring to future Gran Turismo's as 'Gran Turismo Sport' AKA GTS 1,2,3 etc.

Naturally, I'm thinking way ahead of myself, but part of a reboot is to re-establish the franchise's identity for the future.

Damn... you know a game is really serious business when users start conducting statement analysis!

Somebody call the FBI!

Question to all: has GT6 actually even be mentioned at all in relation to these cars? Not that I can see anywhere, and going on past experience, with that NSX trailer I mentioned earlier, the advertising and scenario surrounding the trailer was very similar. The game in that trailer turned out to be GT6, not GT5...

Good point, the NSX was the last example of a car revealed before the game it featured in was. Just had a quick check and the NSX was revealed in January 2012...........GT6 wasn't revealed until 16 months later, and GT6 was released 7 months after that.

So even though the Bugatti and Hyundai VGTs appear ready to go - and the small print suggests they will debut in the next GT - that's not necessarily an indication that the next GT is close. But, if I were to rabidly speculate again, at this stage a 2016 reveal and holiday release doesn't sound (too) far-fetched...............

@sk8er913, instinct says that is a heap of garbage you've been told. Shame the person is anonymous - they'd be ripe for the Ludicrous Claims thread.

Gran Turismo Sports: FIA
just name it "Gran Turismo"
Gran Turismo Sport The Real Racing Simulator

Maybe they'll go the route of those crappy knock-off Android games. "Gran Turismo Theft Auto Sports: Real Race Vision - Need for FIA" :D

"I live in Japan"

Oh **** he must be legit!

...Jokes ;)

@Laffinassasin If so, that would really be awesome. I miss GT. :P

It's more acute than ever, because the last game was a bit of a cash grab and hasn't held our interest for as long as a GT main title would normally. This was amplified by all the hype for the next gen, with GT6 being lost to the wayside in many respects because of that. Because the next gen is now the current gen, we expect a new GT title to come, and because of the notable improvements in hardware and ease of development, we expect it to be a significantly improved game. If PDI have learned their lessons, which is a realistic possibility considering who they've hired for their team in recent months, it could be a tremendous game.

What that means is we have a perfect storm of events, which will inevitably cause hype and anticipation for the next game, which is why even the tiniest of hints are being analysed and discussed - especially by us hardcore GT nuts.
