After watching these latest vids,if this is PDs best then I'm embarrassed for them.
I can't see myself ever owning a PS4.....or PS5 whenever this joke releases.

I can´t believe they are really using the same rally concept from GT2 (wide, bland tracks, fews cars in track, etc). Rally X could be a good option instead, could be much more fun IMO.

Might be in the minority, but I liked it. Rallying isn't my thing but that looked fun. I'm kinda glad they do it their way, stays close to what we know from GT. But it doesn't seem like there's many rally tracks so this might be a bummer if it's only 2 or 3 in total.
I like the old GT rally tracks but there is no effort with this one. Maybe it's a WIP and they will add a little more life, trackside objects, not just orange barrier for three minutes.

The fact that there's actual natural obstacles beside the course just behind the barrier most of the way just makes it worse. Banks, trees, ditches, rocks, use them as a first line of defense against people going off track and then put the invisible wall behind that if necessary.

The invincible plastic tape is so twenty years ago. I wouldn't cross your fingers for it being WIP either, they're probably only showing off assets that are considered "finished" or close to it.

Exactly. I mean, isn't part of the thrill of rally speeding through a narrow course knowing that a mistake can cost you running off the course, hitting a ditch or a tree and possibly crashing? The vid above is basically opposite of that and when it bounces of the indestructible barriers it literally feels like GT2 or 3 except the graphics.

In GT5 at least they started in a good direction with the pace notes and point to point tracks, but instead of expanding on that it was abandoned too. I wouldn't mind these tracks like fisherman's ranch if they gave as at least one decent rally track.

It feels like they don't know what they want it to be.

Sometimes it seems like circuit racing with dirt instead of tarmac, but if so then the track design is still stuck back when fantasy circuits were all corridors. If they want it to be like something real, rallycross is the obvious candidate but they're a long way away. And obviously it's nothing like point to point rallies.

I feel like the whole rally thing lacks a purpose. It's not even a decent rendition of dirt driving for those who just want that. Historically, the rally physics have been laughable and the lack of any real bumps means that realistic rally suspension has little value. The jumps are still ludicrous and would destroy anything but a full fledged WRC car, and from the videos the car doesn't seem to rotate properly in the air so there's no skill in hitting them right.

Rally in GT doesn't have to be racing through narrow tracks in the trees, but it could use a little more definition than it has at the moment. Dirt circuit racing doesn't really add much to the game, especially as they've had it in GT5 and 6.

FH3 uses orange plastic barriers for races but they are destructible. I think it's a WIP because it's too lazy for a first party dev to use this boring scenery. If I'm wrong...I'll laugh at Poly like the rest of the internet :P

Couldn't "lacks a purpose" be said about many elements of the game? e.g. what purpose does photo-travel have? Some people like it, some don't, but it adds variety to the game.

MXH
Four lanes wide rally course. Nice.

The narrower the track the less overtaking opportunities there are, especially if half of the time the cars are sideways. It's a bit boring if the race is just a procession because overtaking is too difficult.

It's a bit of an assumption that everyone agrees with your assessment of the new tracks' environments.

I agree that it looks and sounds good. One thing I notice is that the collision detection is very strange. The player seems to bump into the car infront while one has the impression not to be even that close to the car. An "artificial air" barrier? Also when overtaking the player seems to be able to get much closer to the actual car. The "artifical air" barrier seems much smaller in this case.

The bumper cam isn't actually a bumper cam, its where your camera would normally be if you were in cockpit view. So basically there is still a bunch of car in front of the camera. ;)

Thanks for the explanation. It is kind odd it works like that. I remember other GT's had the same kind of "issue" but less severe.

Therein lies the problem. Rallying is not about overtaking in the real world, it's about threading your car through a stage quicker than anyone else. Rallycross features on track overtaking but this isn't that either. So what exactly is this supposed to be? It's just the same old arcade style rallying we've had since GT2.

To each his own :)
