Don't they usually cost 1.49 individually? And there's 5 cars... so 7.49... Then, its a special edition pack so... 14.99. :D

If it came free with a premium edition pre-order that was like 10$ extra and had some more stuff. Then that would be awesome, but I still wouldn't buy it. :D
I thought I saw they cost 39 bucks.

Edit: the pre order price

This might be PD's version of Amiibo. These packs could come with a download code. I'm not trying to give PD any ideas, but this would be a good way, in my opinion, to offer paid DLC.

Downloadable content AND a few collectibles? Seems to have worked well for Nintendo.

For that price ($39), it had better have the full game

I, obviously, missed that. :banghead: Oh well.
I get what you mean though, maybe not with this pack but have a line of Hot Wheels costing a couple of dollars, and you get that brand new car in game as opposed to going through the PSN store, but that should still be an option.

To be clear, I think these particular cars should be normal content. I can't imagine, for example, the C7.R being part of a paid DLC pack, even if it's cheap.

Sorry, it's early in the day.

Indeed. I'm not too familiar with the Amiibo approach, but if GT Sport came along with DLC that was exclusively tied to Hot Wheels car packs, well, I probably wouldn't be buying much. Though really, I can't see PD doing something like that.

It would be dumb. Very dumb

Well, we literally don't have a straw to grasp in regards to DLC so...
Well, for starters the DLC in GT5 wasn't a massive success and GT6 had free updates with new cars, so based on that, I've come to the conclusion that DLC won't be a thing. I could be wrong though because we just don't know at this stage!

How do you know GT5's DLC wasn't a success? I only ask because I genuinely would have thought they would have sold well, considering the simply massive amounts the game sold. I haven't seen anywhere reporting either bad or good news about GT5 DLC, so I'm just assuming based on the fact that everyone I know who bought GT5 also bought all the DLC.

GT5 DLC came way too late, almost a year after launch. GT6 had the problem that the car modelers were seemingly all busy either doing Vision GT cars, leaving little resources for real world new models. Either that or they decided early on to scrap most of the "quantum leap" DLC and save it for the PS4 games.

I see no reason GTS couldn't have a successful DLC program, they just need to get their bums into gear and make sure they have the staff to cope with the modelling demands.

I never said they couldn't make DLC packs.

To be fair, GT6 did have a big jump in DLC over previous GT games.
GT5 had 31 DLC cars, GT6 has 40 so far but a couple of those are just different paints I think. Not really that big of a leap considering GT5 didn't start for a year to release DLC. And it certainly pales in comparison to their competition.

I feel like a lot of the people talking about the Hot Wheels don't understand Hot Wheels. If these are upcoming cars, which I don't think they are, there's no un announced cars (The C7.R is listed but under a different series) in this series that I know of. However if they are real they'd be apart of a more premium series - along the lines of James Bond, Miami Vice, Back To The Future, ect - which run at $5-$7, not the cheaper $0.97.

Free DLC is nice, but I don't mind paying a few dollars for a good DLC pack.
Definitely. Especially the themed packs, I really like those. The good thing about paid DLC is you tend to get more DLC if it's paid and you tend to get content you really want. Or at least that's how it looks to me comparing Forza vs. GT when it comes to DLC and now Project Cars as well. The DLC from Assetto Corsa, a tiny independent developer with relatively tiny sales compared to GT, just over the last 16 months or so, blows GT DLC away as well.

Seriously PD should team up with Evolution. Driveclub DLC's are god. Sadly the game itself, while good, isnt exactly a top on Physics part which is pretty much wasted potential on the detail of the car.

If those both finally paired up then no doubt will have a GT with the best car roster.

There's no need to team up with DriveClub for cars. PD can have each and every single car in DC if it wants to just by calling this number Phone: +84.8.3943.1389.

For modeling cars, Evolution Studio makes subcontracting as Turn 10 (same society I believe)

Fair point about the cars, GT6 also got more tracks in DLC though as well, so perhaps not a "quantum leap", but they did provide more DLC, and it was all provided for free.

In terms of actual new locations GT5 added 4 (Spa, Kart Space, Route X, Motegi). GT6 added 3, (Midfield, Sierra, Red Bull Ring). They also added the half assed 80s variations of Monza and Brands and updated Suzuka but they weren't new.

So no, there wasn't a quantum leap in tracks either. They were free though, indeed.

And most important, its free DLC. I don't see point to pay for DLC when I already buy game for 60 euros, DLC always should be free.

It obviously depends on the content, paint and outfits should indeed always be free but when it comes to new tracks and cars you should always look at them as a premium option to get new cars early before the next game. If you don't want to pay the premium, you wait for the next game as you always used to do. DLC in racing games is just now a way to get new content out between games and since it costs them time and money, it makes sense they are charged at a premium to me. You either get them now or wait, as I said.

The Amiibo approach is a bit more subtle than something that is being suggested here. For example, say you purchased a Lucina amiibo from a store. It can be used to do multiple things like:
  • Unlock her in a game where she wouldn't normally be a character. I.E: a completely different franchise (Codename STEAM)
  • Use her as a 'trainable' A.I. in Smash Bros so you can create your own fighter that learns from fighting opponents. Think Pokemon, but in real time.
  • Unlock an outfit for a character or paint design for a vehicle based on her appearance.
The key thing with Amiibo is trying to make sure that all content isn't too important or necessary for the actual game its being used for. If PD were to go down the amiibo route it would be more likely for special paint jobs and the like rather than outright vehicles which would be too far in my opinion. That being said Amiibo works since they are usually universal and compatible with a lot of the Nintendo game selection(present and future), since PDiibo would be limited to a single game/franchise it would be more of a skylanders type approach.
