GT Sport vs Other Games: Comparison Video Thread

Kind of considering this is the first comparison thread that seems have upheld its maturity unlike the days of old.

Multiple comparisons of in-shade vs. direct sunlight are disappointing. I'm not even sure it's fair to compare the environment of Dubai environment consisting of nothing but sand & dunes to a Willow Springs' backdrop of mountains & heavy spectators, let alone being midday vs. afternoon/morning.

Oh it isn't a fair comparison, but some folks will always pick comparisons that suit their preferred title.

Seeing it on screen, I don't think I'd argue that overall, GT's shader/lighting work is still superior. But we're talking minor differences — it isn't the gulf that existed between GT5 and FM3, for instance.

That said, I think PD's strength lies in replicating the magic hour of the sun nearly setting/rising. In flat sunlight, GT can sometimes look drab. T10 on the other hand is almost the opposite: I find the Dubai setting arguably the most impressive in terms of atmosphere.

A more direct hands-on comparison will have to wait a bit, though...

From the small amount of gameplay I've seen, FM7s cars still don't look quite as "real" as GTSs. But the environments in FM7, especially with the dynamic time and weather, are just leagues beyond what GTS is offering. GTS looks great in a screenshot, but in motion it's so obviously a freeze frame of a perfect moment.

Also, is GTS one of the only big racing games not to have dynamic time and weather at this point? AC doesn't either, but Kunos is tiny and AC is super niche. FM7, FH3, F1 2017, PC2, all have it. I'm probably missing something. Dirt 4? It really feels to me like GTS is a couple of years beyond it's use by date at this point. Had it come out in 2015 it would have been amazing. At the end of 2017 it's OK but not great, with what they've advertised so far. On paper, the reasons to buy it are Scapes or VGTs, both of which seem like they'd appeal to limited audiences.

Pretty sure F7 doesn't have dynamic time of day.

Maybe, but if you look at the difference in lighting between the start of the first lap and the end of the last lap in this it sure points to it. Maybe it's masked by the changing weather, but it seems to me like a big change of time from cloudy afternoon-ish to near sunset.

Most of the visual change looks to be from the cube maps updating to reflect the skybox change. Lighting and shadows still seem to be baked.

PGR4 also had some drastic weather changes. Lighting was still baked though.

You reckon? It goes from cloudy but bright at the start but clear and darker at the end. That's not generally how weather affects lighting.

I mean, you're entitled to your opinion but I don't see how they could realistically get that much change in the ambient lighting simply from the weather. It gets darker as the storm comes over, sure, but then it's even darker again as the storm clears. Compare the stands in the first and last shots. You've gone from full overcast to mildly cloudy after rain and yet it's significantly darker.

If you can explain how those weather conditions can do that in a realistic manner without any change to the sun and it's position, then have at it.

That driving looks very weird with that constant on/off throttle (at the beginning) :odd:

Also i really think the graphics arent anything special, looks very gamey compared to GT Sport

Never watched a race from the AI perspective? That's how they drive in every game, nothing different about Forza in that regard.

Er, I've played the beta and most definitely have witnessed numerous cases of stuttering.

You're sort of proving the point in the beginning of your post: PD has decided to make a more graphics-intensive title, and the frame rate has suffered because of it. Some people won't mind, but some people will.

Remember when GT5 had trouble maintaining a solid frame rate, and a fair amount of people convinced themselves that, since it was the first PS3 game (it wasn't), GT6 would surely fix it? Yeah...

GT Sport is in fact a beta still, but that doesn't mean it's more likely to suddenly have a locked frame rate at release. That's wishful thinking. I mean, I hope it does too, but there's nothing to suggest that will happen.

I only watched GTS gameplay on youtube and I haven't notice any stuttering nor seen people complaining I was wrong about that one, my bad.

The lights around the circuit also seem to get much brighter by the end, even with the sun showing through as well. The shadows of the cars seem to show it as well; the beginning of the race shows faint shadows being cast behind the cars where as towards the end, I believe they would be cast to their left (though it's impossible to see them at the end due to the low level of light).

I'm genuinely curious to know how this will play into the game. Will it be select tracks or is there some sort of "scripted" trickery as to how the weather begins & ends. Basically, is it really going to be dynamic?

Idk if it is right on genre perspective but FM7 imo looks a lot like Driveclub by taking closer look at the environment and weather conditions. Probably someone can give explanation about this? Just curious.

It still has to run on a base XB1, so yea, there's a baseline graphics level that is below GT Sport.

However, the IQ shown there is impeccable and quite ridiculous.

Plus they apparently have dynamic time of day now, and weather.

And it will undoubtedly run at a completely locked 60fps.

Perhaps this could answer your question?

Mind the horrible driving at the beginning (it it just the AI).

One thing I noticed about the FM7 track footage, lack of blaring headlights when it got dark, probably a limitation of the weather system. Probably too taxing to have them reflecting off the water surface.

And they don't light the ground up.

Was going to post that too. Both DC and PCARS do that. Driveclub is still unmatched in my opinion when it comes to rain.

It isn't dark at this point in the video, it's dusk or so it seems. There is also a lot of water spray. The lights don't look out of place in those conditions.

that serious shot of driver walking

she looks like halo character with this helmet

I'm wondering if there is a certain "time" cut-off that initiates the lights? They weren't on at all in the beginning of the race as you can see from the intro with the front of the GTR, and all throughout the game no matter the conditions, there was never any illumination from beginning to end. Was it just not "Dark" enough for them to be on? It would be awesome if they allowed it to be toggled, but I'm guessing that the cars in the game that did have headlights on, where functioning as something similar to DRL's, like a lot of cars in the previous iterations worked, where as the GTR has none in game.

Would definitely need to see more, though.

EDIT: After watching it again, I notice that the taillights on the GTR aren't on at the beginning, but they're on near the end. So they definitely toggled on. I wonder if actual headlight illumination is saved for specifically night races, to avoid using all the extra light sources during taxing situations. Still have to wait for a more precise video, though.

Speaking strictly about graphics here, I made a post in another thread about what I said in this one: Forza is now GT.

Forza 7 is understandably held back by Forza 5/6 legacy assets (maybe engine as well) and XB1.

But for what it is, it's a good improvement.
These added layers of paint (mainly new weather effects and color grading), help with the overall image unity. High resolution goes without saying.

This video (and the picture I posted last page, I won't rescue other pictures because I have no interest debating this) illustrates well how they are (again, understandably), using the same assets but the new effects enhance it visually.

IMO graphics are just underwhelming. This is all the new xbox can do? Nowhere near photorealism.
Driveclub, even if at 30fps, still dominates everything else (again, in terms of photorealism). GT Sport still looks a lot better than this. You can add all the details, all the vibrating windshield wipers and spoilers you want....FM7 still looks plastic and fake. I'm really disappointed by the graphics, I was expecting a lot more since I play FM almost every day since october 2009.
Ok graphics are not a deal breaker, but if T10 won't announce penalties for corner cutters and crashers, plus good FFB support for the Logitech G920, I will not buy Forza this time. That's all I need to enjoy it.

I've seen the xbox one x presentation with all the other titles....same story. Underwhelming graphics.

@owoc12 there's an edit button on the bottom right corner to prevent doubleposting.

On topic.

Can't exactly have a good say as to how FM7 looks compared to GTS (as it's not out yet and I don't have any hands-on experience with it), but after playing GTS for a bit, I would have to say the thing about GTS is that while it looks amazingly good in replays, the quality gets kinda off within gameplay, to me, at least (not sure if this is exactly true with every racing game, but this is how I viewed GTS). Overall, compared to FM6, GTS still takes the cake in terms of lighting and general visuals.

You're kidding right? while i think GTS looks better saying Forza 7 is graphically underwhelming makes you look like a fanboy.

I don't know, I feel they've all done pretty good in the visuals, and they've all approached it completely different. Driveclub has been able to achieve what it has because the physics aren't up to par with things like Forza and GTS, and also only runs 8 cars at once all the while running at half the FPS. GTS looks extremely beautiful, but to achieve what they've set out for they had to remove Dynamic situations from the game completely in order to do that, and even still, are having small FPS issues. Forza is looking very good too, considering all its labeled as, especially with the introduction of Dynamic Weather(and possibly TOD), and especially having 24 cars on track at once*.

They've all took different routes, and made spectacularly beautiful games, but if you look deeper, you can notice why these three games are able to do what they're doing. I appreciate what these three games have done, especially taking into consideration what they have to work around. They're all damn nice looking.

*I would imagine that to be true, considering the last game had that.

No I am not kidding, at all.
Fanboy? Explain. I play all titles and I just give my honest opinion. Why would I take PD's side if I think they're doing a pretty bad job with collisions since...forever, for example?
Come on.
