GT Sport's FIA Championship Test Season Kicks Off Today

The two races today were good fun overall, I set pole, fastest lap and victory in Suzuka but then failed a little in the Kyoto race going from 5th to 2nd to 7th :( I went wide on that last chicane and got a 7 second penalty twice and even if I went slower the counter didn‘t went down, guess you‘ll have to park your car on the track to make it count down... Also getting the drivers rating down when being crashed into is really annoying

I parked it, it doesn't go down at all it seems.

Qualification should be made longer. At least a few minutes more because as of now, faster drivers are slowed down by 19 other cars and everyone wants to do their best lap so noone cares if there's a faster guy behind. Also, I've seen people going off track and still being the pain in the ass by trying to race me after they mess up... IN QUALIFYING....

Because of this I only had 1 kinda clean lap in Q. Stupid.

That last lap, last turn, when you are the leader, and just have to overlap that late ghost car through that wide door opened...

And then... that car switch to solid the moment the player slide to the inside

and push you in the pitlane...

Anyway, i had nice races, but the lack of blue flag caused problems in both races. I'm to blame thought: i didn't play online yet (since the beta this summer), and landed among players slower than me. I scored 49 pts and 90 pts only in Nation and Manufacturer races for 1st places (despite the pit crash), but i think this is absolutely normal: if i need to contribute more to the points, it's up to me to reach a proper rank.

I'd kill myself.

Just tried my first FIA Nations race and... this happened.

Took a really long time to start the Final, btw.

:lol: I don't know how or what happened there but it's amazing.

I just tried my first Nations Cup. Disappointed in myself lol It was all B/S drivers. 5 mins for qualifying is about half the time it should be. I was only able to get one semi clean lap in and I didn't have too much traffic. Also, they should let you finish the lap you are on before going or something. My last lap was a flyer, was half way around and time ran out.

Anyway, put me in 3rd. Jumped up to 2nd fairly quickly and then just began chasing 1st. He was very slowly pulling away. Then I made one small mistake on lap 8 ish and got a 2 second penalty, wait that out, 3rd catches up to me. He passes in my draft and then later on that lap, the final lap, I stupidly miss my braking point and run wide and 4th catches up and passes me on last lap. No time to fight back. 2nd place had penalties though so I got 3rd.

Notes:
  • Perfectly clean racing from the top 5 area I was in during race.
  • Qualifying should be 10 mins and the cars should be released in a staggered fashion or something. If not staggered then 15 mins to let the field spread out more.
  • I do like that qualifying is pre-race. None of this crazy lap time BS all over the leader boards. Just real-time, get it done action.
  • The intro bit showing everyone in the grid was great and exactly the sort of stuff I was hoping for. I wouldn't mind if they expanded on that more. Like its a rolling lap as they show the cars and then goes into the rolling start.
  • Be nice if they added a podium thing at end for top 3 drivers.
  • I hope they make a Group 4 series because I don't care about Group 3 or the other cars really.
  • Standing starts might be neat. Not all the time but somehow.. I don't know when or where lol
  • I was the only Ferrari on the grid.
  • I haven't played in a week maybe (nothing left to do really) so coming back today for this, I really like the tweak they did to the braking/turning characteristics with that patch. It didn't seem right to me before but I figured it was the car or ABS or something. Now though I can actually roll on and off the brakes on turn-in and the car doesn't just plow.

From another person that was in the same race as me:

"I was just trying to play the first race in the FIA GT Nations Cup and the game was going fine. We went into warm ups followed by the Qualifiers but then things went bad when we it was time for the Final race to start. First it took forever to load the final race up then when the race finally did start. The camera never changed from the starting video. So control of our cars was handed over to use with the camera pointed in the wrong direction. No hud no countdown the the start of the race or nothing couldn't press start to enter the menu or anything. Then I was just booted from the race back out into the main menu and can't reenter the race and it says I have 0 season points."

First FIA Nations cup race was basically a normal daily race. Get wrecked and claw back to where I started. Also ridiculous that the first available time slot for us on the east coast of America is this late at night. I get up at 4am to go to work so sun-thurs I can't race. Disappointing.

On the flip side, it has serious potential. Very cool camera thing in prerace to show each car individually. First half of the race was pretty good, 2nd half people decided to be ping pong balls, so as long as people race clean it has a lot of potential.

I finished 6th place with the porsche cayman ... that was pretty intense. I had a pack of furious on my tail for a good 5 laps. managed to gain 2 positions :)

And it is. Your speed and the speed of the field you're racing against. I think it makes sense to take into account your speed in the context of the speed of your opponents as well.
I almost agree with you, but it is massively unbalanced, the difference in points is just ridiculous, while i have no illusions of matching the top guys i would at least be able to compete with people in my friends list, for example, one of the guys is ranked C S to my D S simply because he has far more time to play than i do, i work at least 12 hours a day, however in the time comparisons on lap times, mission challenges etc i am often just a bit faster then him, but because he's one rank up on me he is now 700 points ahead, how am i supposed to catch up on this, it;s unrealistic and demoralizing, if it wasn't for the fact that i had an absolute blast playing the Championships i would throw in the towel right now, and i wonder how many are doing exactly that.
If i enter a 100 meter sprint with Usain Bolt i sure don't expect to win but i also don't expect to get hobbled by having to carry a 100 pound backpack

It kind of makes sense to me. There are seven races and they want to have some of the fastest and best Racers be in the finals for these events. So if you dont have enough time to practice and can't get the dr up, you're not going to be the fastest one for the finals and that's what these things are for.

So you're saying anyone with a life or a job in the real world should just give up now since we obviously can't practice as much as the fastest guys? Somehow I don't really think that's quite what PD has in mind. Could be wrong though...

about drivers behave erratically online

in iRacing they use real name ( name on the card while sign up via credit card ). So that makes most of the driver quite civilised.

I think there are valid points on both sides of the.. points thing.

Unfortunately, it kinda is the way it is. I wouldn't expect someone to have a full time job and also be an Olympic athlete. It's just the way of the world. This is kinda how e-sports are or games in general. The kids who spend all day playing their favorite FPS shooter, and have the natural talent, are just going to excel.

But also, it isn't like these A or S rank drivers are going to continue off like its a numerical leveling system. They just got there faster because of more free time.. or possibly dedication as I'm sure there are people working 8 hour jobs who come home and spend all their free time playing GT Sport. Point is, if they maintain it, they'll still just be that rank forever. And if you're that good too you'll catch up eventually. Eventually seems like a week or two of regular racing. So I guess think of it more like an MMO in that this is a long term thing. Theoretically, this will be going for a few more years.

Maybe it would work if Polyphony had different divisions for each Driver Rating?

Another part I find interesting is the overall race time factor. In a less obvious way, it encourages a person to race consistently i.e. cleanly on their best pace. I might not risk trying to squeeze out one more position if it could cause a conflict and knock down my overall race time. You're overall race time is your time against the world, not just within that single race of 20 people. We know that consistency in racing tends to be more important than who can bust out that fastest one quick lap.

That was the worst experience I've ever had. I got ping ponged by so many different people I ended up in last place on both races. The first one I got popped in the side by someone who refused to let me have the line even though I was ahead of them. To add insult to injury, I was penalized 5 seconds once I got back on track.

The last one, I got punted in a corner right into a spot I couldn't reverse out of. The game wouldn't reset me and by the time I was back on track the pack was well ahead of me by a considerable amount of time. I was so far back I just drove for SR.. I spent all day practicing, too. Such a bummer. I hate that people don't get penalized for punting.

Overall, I love the way the presentation was handled as well as the surprise qualifying lap before each race. I qualified in fourth place for Kyoto and 7th for Suzuka. If they could somehow fix the penalty system I think I would have been really really happy.

Also...during the beginning of qualifying on Suzuka, the lag was so bad that I had cars hurtling around the track like pinball. I got hit so hard my car was screwed up I think. The entire body was flashing red.

Had a great Nations Cup race from 7th to 3rd and I started 6th at Suzuka in a very competitive field (mostly A drivers). I went in the gravel on first lap and dropped to 11th. Back up to 7th but got dive bombed once and got a 10s penalty when an M6 slid into me. Finished 12th but got over 600 points. I had a bunch of fast guys behind me as they messed up their qualy.

I think they succeeded so far,
Complaints about Qualifying.. Check
Complaints about Stewards.. Check
Call for a level playing field.. Check
Complaints about Backmarkers.. Check
Complaints about point system.. Check
Close racing.. Check
Happy winners.. Check
Happy losers.. Check

It feels like a real FIA racing championship..

Maybe in the real season

Im going to complain about being in a Nations Cup Race with 15 Americans, 3 Canadians, 1 Mexican and 1 Argentine. I was expecting an international race, all I got was lipstick on a garden variety sport race.

I am half and half on this. On the first GR.4 race, I placed 4th, because all the half whits wrecked each other right out of the gate, and I was left alone. On my second race, I got caught up in hard traffic bumping and cutting people off, running off the track, and was taken out multiple times. Placed 9th because of it.

I hope it gets better, and I can get some points and be placed with clean drivers. We will see.

The fastest drivers battling it out will most likely not slow each other down like you would think, but it does happen (usually on tracks with chicanes and slow corners). If another fast driver who had a low rating because of whatever reason were to be put in an easier lobby, they might make up significant race time just due to qualifying first and having a free, open track.

Therefore, yes, fast race times should be accounted for, but not so much that it doesn't acknowledge the potential for there to be tough battles in faster lobbies (with higher ratings). The higher rated lobbies should be rewarded more, but it is understandable that it can be upsetting if they are rewarded too much and have a right of way.

What if everyone had a qualifying session, and then we were placed in lobbies according to our time? (as long the lobby is close to matching our Sportsmanship Rank)

Can you screenshot that, I find it hard to believe. I got 85 points for finishing 15th in C/B. Though, from my experience, huge difference between D and C drivers. I could actually win while I was in D, but in C I'm rarely above 10th.
Here it is mate. Absolutely Unbelievable. 23 Points for pole and winning. Laughable.

People who finish 7th running 3 seconds slower should not get significantly more points than someone who one both races!!! Bull sh it

Something VERY wrong with this system, i'm ranked same as you D and S, in Manufacturers Race started 5th and finished 3rd....98 points...how is that possible that i get more points for a worse performance?????
