The 2016 cars are actually a lot faster. 2008 was a wet year, but we can use 2009 as a measurement, Suzuka in particular. For GT500 a 1:55.394 was the fastest from any session for qualifying: http://supergt.net/archive/classic/supergt.net/supergt/2009/0906/0906qual.htm

GT500 pole in 2016 was a 1:47.456: https://supergt.net/results/index/2016/Round6/3/gt500 (middle of the three tabs above the results)

Note that GT300 was only just over 2s off the 2009 overall GT500 fastest lap, plus the 2016 qualifying lap was a whopping 10s quicker than in 2009!

A lot of speed differences comes from the advancement in tire technology and compounds.
Tires have improved a lot in the last decade and can be a POSSIBLE reason for such a difference in lap times. This goes for all motorsport racing.
Not saying this is the case here but very possibly a major part of the differences.

At least the tyres on the Jag, look beefier than in past GTs. Gives me hope for the Fairlady ZG. :sly:

Why, Nissan? Why?

I'm surprised the Mini model revealed to us is the '05 Cooper S from GT5 Prologue. Back in GT6 it was probably the most lower-poly of the vanilla premium models. GT5 did bring us a newer model followed by the Countryman S. PD are dedicated to bringing far-left-field models to us.

I was hoping for the '06 JCW model so we can see these cool wheels.

The game is expected to be down for 2 hours in order to implement the update, correct?

I can't really complain; it's by far the best (new) MINI era -- before BMW mucked everything up after Frank Stephenson left to join Ferrari -- and I had feared they would go with whatever newest MINI they had.

Do manufacturers not get a say in which cars are chosen? I would think BMW would want PD to feature new-gen MINIs as part of the licensing deal.

Another Gto that's not from Mitsubishi :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

if Forza is anything to go by, I wouldn't count on Mitsubishi, and Toyota for that matter, showing up in an update for a while. It's unfortunate but that the reality; not everyone wants to do business.

The irony is that this same update has a Lexus (a Toyota brand), albeit a racing model.

Has anyone else noted that this is the first monthly update NOT to include a new Amateur event in the GT League?

Can't say I noticed, but I keep noticing how the amount of new GT League events is criminally low for a game adding so many cars on a regular basis. I cannot imagine it would be hard to add many more events than seen so far.

What about a new series focusing on the Impreza vs. Lancer rivalries? Come on PD, more imagination and more races with every update. Give the ever expanding car roster way more room to breathe in singleplayer. GT4 proved it's possible.

I don't know if I'd go that far: Toyota seemingly learned all the wrong lessons from the Porsche/EA relationship, and has more or less an exclusive relationship with GT.

Mitsubishi is hard to predict at the moment: as recently as E3 2018, its cars were in Forza Horizon 4, so it must've been a fairly last-minute issue. The Evo X is mentioned on the DiRT Rally 2.0 official page, so we'll see if the brand stays put by release. But even then, that doesn't necessarily imply any issues for an already-released game the brand is a part of.

PD are close to Toyota unlike other companies. There are Toyota road cars in this game.

Keep your eye on the GT Sport forums in the next few days. I have an updated version of my "Kerfuffle" - Shuffle racing managed by an Excel sheet with very little input required - that I'm going to share when I'm happy with it. We have a test session tomorrow just to check the most recent calculations and I think it'll be good to go.

It's only for private lobbies but that doesn't make a difference in GT Sport.
That's awesome but how am i gonna be able to join?

Back in 2007, GT500 time already broke 1:50s barrier, Daisuke Ito did 1:49s lap on ARTA NSX getting pole position.

ARTA NSX qualifying best lap at Suzuka in Rd3 2018 was 1:44s, so about 5s faster after 11 years. Both times ARTA got on pole position.

Perhaps if Toyota and Mitsubshi stop making boring cars that people might buy their products.

Blaming videogames is just a simple scapegoat for Toyota and Mitsubshi who are failing in making any good cars today.
At least Toyota is trying to be less boring but Mitsubishi does make good suvs even though boring
