I don't know how good or bad idea is this, but I started to gain info about how fast each car in GT1 can beat all tracks in 4 states:

1) Stock new car (or Stock used)
2) After buy all upgrades (but doesn't setup them) (No racing modification)
2) After buy all upgrades (setup is done) (No racing modification)
3) After buying Racing modification (setup is done)

maybe there is too much states in which I'm testing cars (for example 2nd one I think doesn't make sense) - if so, then please comment something about it if you want.

Btw - setup of all car parts must be made for each track separately, cause each track is unique. There must be some kind of "gold setup" for each car and for each track in the game. No wall-gliding or grass-riding is allowed. Since 1st lap is starter-lap, it doesn't take into account. Instead only 2nd lap time is taked into account as a result.

My current stats now are as follows (I will update them asap):
High Speed Ring

1) 1:03:094

2) 0:56:739
3) 0:56:169

Autumn Ring Mini
1) 0:39:114
2) 0:34:141

PS: I'm playing on ePSXE 1.9.5 and collecting replays of these races on memcards for archive. All races done using Manual Transmission.

-----------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: 2nd mode is obsolete and will not be tested in future

In past I always played on automatic trany. But when I discovered how cool is to drive on manual, I will never switch to auto again (at least if the question is - how fast car can beat the lap). Manual trany have 2 advantages - 1) you can squeeze more power from your car on the same gear compared to automatic trany, 2) you feel your car much better.

PS: yes, it's hard when you starting, but after it becomes easy

About: 0:33:163

What type of Eunos Roadster exactly you was using? There at least 4 or 5 of them.

New or used?

Was it stock or upgraded?

With setup or not?

Can you show replay of this race?

I don't remember which race I won the car from but it's upgraded and I have a bit of a set up on it, spring rate, ride height, and camber tweaked. I only took the pic of the time I got.

From that screenshot it's the special prize version - it and the base 1.8 are the only two just named 'ROADSTER', but it's actually identical to the S Special in terms of performance rather than the base model.

Anyone faster than 0:33:163 on Autum Ring-Mini?
Yes, I did a 0:29:825, with my RX-7
Also did High-Speed Ring in 0:46:744
1:15:214 in a R33 V-Spec on Trail Mountain
Did it in 1:12:293 :)
The RX-7 Type RZ is pretty good when fully upgraded and tuned. IMO, the best handling car in the game.
Edit: Did it in 1:13:327 with the Skyline. Does not handle nearly as well as the RX-7, but it is faster off the line, and does not slide in corners. On the flipside, it does understeer a lot. - I had a Stage 2 turbo kit on it, taking it just north of 600 HP

Oh damn! Hell yeah! This is getting interesting! I didn't think it was possible to break 30 secs on Autum Ring-Mini! I'll give the RX-7 a try. I've never used that car on Autum Ring-Mini.

Damn you got my by 3 secs on Trail Moutain! My R33 has 941HP. I know horsepower isn't everything so I'll have to make some adjustments and see what I can do. I'll try 600-700HP and 700-800HP and post my results. It's weird you say that the Skyline doesn't slide, because I got that puppy sliding on almost every corner with 941HP. What's your suspension setting for the Skyline? Maybe it's too stiff.

High-speed Ring in 46secs is very impressive! You've got skills my dude! 🤌🤌🤌

Hehe, I have been playing this game for 25 years :)
With the smaller turbo, it does not spin as much in corners, since the engine power does not overpower the tires' ability to grip.
This is why you see most of the race cars in the game having between 550 and 650 horsepower.
900+ HP is more suitable for top-speed races, like the Megaspeed cup, especially the race on the test track.
Car weight is a different topic. The Skyline is rather heavy compared to the RX-7 (1108 kg vs. 900 kg), so that could explain the lack of cornering ability.

Oh I didn't even consider the turbo stages... I've been playing for 21 years. I just got 0:49:312 on the High-Speed Ring in the [R] Impreza Rally Edition. I think I might be able to squeeze the time down with some gearing change, but I'm close!

About 3 years ago, a speedrunner friend of mine was doing runs or ARmini, trying to get the best lap around it on the japanese version of the game, so i joined in and got an unofficial world record (it was a record, but since i was playing on emulator, it can't be officialised). No idea if it's been lowered since, but i'll join this little thread with my only attempt at a record in GT1 heh

Hot lap is 25.265 btw
Oh, and the reason why i waited on lap 1 was to let the ghost go away in order to not distract me, you can't disable it on GT1 JP time trials.

I was able to squeeze out a 0:47:066 with the rally car.
Nice time with the FTO LM on Mini. That is one of the best racecars in the game. I was able to bring it down to 0:29:287 with the Honda NSX

Edit: Did a new personal best lap of Mini with the RX-7 LM. 0:27:994

Hmm, then again.. the Concept Car in the Japanese version of the game was only around 600 kg, compared to around 900 kg in the international releases of the game. Same could be said about the Cerbera LM

All my times were done on PAL in comparison :) - Though on an emulator with the 50/60 fps patch.

It's worth pointing out that running at a different framerate will make a difference to your lap times - I believe higher framerates in GT1 result in slower times as doubling the rate at which the physics are processed reduces the effect of some beneficial quirks.

That's right. More accurate physics but less exploiting.
My time would be impossible at 60fps because i'm using all the tricks in regards to grip that i can, including the shaking suspension that helps a lot

That means a time of 0:27:994 is really good when factoring in all the differences

Lets goooo!!!!!
Switched one car and this is the result- high speed ring
total= 1:42.605
fastest lap= 0:47.585

update
total= 1:39.815
fastest= 0:46.678

Most impressive :) The Viper is an amazing car.
I beat my previous record by almost 1 second with the RX7 LM. Got a time of 0:45:855

Well I have to say you are much closer to the record than me

Well with my time I also have to factor in that I am auctually using a ps2 slim.

But good job and good luck

Now High-Speed Ring in reverse is a little more interesting, as you are able to carry much more speed through the long banked turn. This is my best time on the reverse layout: 0:43:632 - with the R32 Skyline GTR 1989 model.
