GT4 Bugs

HAHAHA, I just finished the Extreme Hall Formula Gran Turismo Championship and Polyphony Gran Turismo Car E kept pitting for no reason! He didn't even get his tires changed or fuel; just kept going inside the Speed Limit zone!!!!

Awww, he musta been nervous... =)

You are correct. The 2003 S2000 has the 2.0L with a 9,000 rpm redline and it's the 2004 that get's the 2.2L with the 8,200 rpm redline.

I should know, I have sold Hondas for the last 10 years :dopey:

Only US model S2000's come with the new 2.2 liter engine.

In Japan, the 2004 and 2005 S2000 still use the same 2.0 liter 9000 rpm engine it always has used.

So GT4 is correct on giving the S2000 a 9000 rpm since that's how the Japan models are.

THE SOUND!

I have my PS2 sharing my computer speakers ... so I lowered the sound volume on everything in GT4 to level 3 to match the output of my computer.

Sometimes the sound actually does play at level 3 (well, most of the time), but other times, it plays at FULL VOLUME and blows my hair to the back of the auditorium.

Also after completing each "mission" race, the "victory" music has a stereo-pan-delay effect on it (may be a result of my custom sound volume levels?)

So GT4 is correct about having the 9000 rpm.

i gotta say... I was so excited about this game. I bought a new Slim PS2 for it in November thinking they may be tough to find around xmas.. then it didnt come out...

NOW its out, and personally,, I think it blows. GT3 was a much better game. This games graphix are not all, if any more advanced. It does have a lot of cool cars.. but STILL, NO Lamborghini?? CMON??

I set my controller up like a dual stick rc car radio. Left stick is gas/break- right is steering. E brake is R2. Why is it, in this game it seems that if I am turning, the car breaks. and when I pull full break sometimes it doesnt break. When I pull the E brake.. the car studders and stops. (it didnt do that in licesning)

Im pretty bummed about this game. They ought to recall it.

First of all:
No Ferrari? No Porsche? No Lamborghini? No problem. You're going to have to hope EA doesn't license these makes anymore. On top of that, it makes no difference. What good is it if a certain car company is in a game and the game may not be that good? It's pointless to hate it for that.

The delays hurt a lot of people, and I cannot say I've been negatively affected myself. Did I go about hating the game and PD? No. As a devoted fan, I've been respectful and willing to take the game as it is.

I guess for your third paragraph, I usually use my right analog stick for acceleration and braking. Since everything is presumably Pressure Sensitive, maybe you're not pressing down hard enough for the game to recognize that. Another thing about braking in GT4 is that with the new physics engine, what you known and loved about GTs 1 through 3, has changed in GT4. Don't forget that brakes lock up, so you'll have to perform a technique called "Poor Man's ABS." Poor Man's ABS is when you repeatedly tap the brakes to stop better, and usually in my GT experience, if press and hold onto the brakes twice or three times, you'll usually have a great period of braking. Usually try to hold it down for maybe less than a second, then do it again until you can properly set your car up for the next turn.

And one last thing, I'm sure GT4 isn't THAT bad. I only played the Arcade version, but did you really give this game a chance? No really. Serious. Did you?

The "jitters" aka shaking baby syndrome is really starting to wear on me. It appears to happen randomly at the beginning of races. Honestly, a shaking screen doesn't seem like much, but after four years of development & testing time, I just can't believe anyone would let the game go out the door with such a noticable flaw. They had to pick this up in testing. Garage glitches, as bad as they seem, are at least understandable since they usually happen well into the game under specific circumstances.....but the shaking glitch happened to me on the second race I entered and it has continued to occur in probably half the races I've entered this far. PD must have been aware of this situation.

Total ball droppage.

The only other gripe I have with the game from a technical standpoint is penalty system. You shouldn't get a penalty when the AI plows into the side of your car. Or at least penalize the AI car as well. However that's more of an annoyance then a "glitch".

Is there a way to turn off the horrendous 'start' and 'finish' music fills? I've got all music turned off in the game settings, and have gotten very quick at hitting the exit button after a race but there's got to be a way.

Also, any tricks for speeding up some of the intro/outro segments? I'd rather skip watching cars drive slowly for a half a lap before a rolling start, skip watching award cash trickle in one dollar at a time, and the Oil Change segment is cute but... I'd just rather be racing.

Have the screen jitters too... both on a regular TV and a 16:9 DLP projector.

Actually, I liked the intro and outro. I'm not knocking you, Loudboxer. I think with the intro, it kind of gets you ready for racing. I think the little break is for you to get ready to go. It feels like you're actually into the race rather than just... take some cars, scatter them up on the grid, and go to work. GT4 is just trying to enhance the experience. At some points in GT3, I just wanted to get the hell out of the race when it was over. But if you're in no real hurry to keep racing until you can't take it anymore, what's the point of wanting to skip through everything?

The jittering, I can deal with that. As long as my racing isn't slown down to 30 FPS behind the wheel, I'm fine.

Yeah I can deal with the jitters too, the point is we shouldn't have to. Not after at least 2 years of delays.

For the most part, I agree... certainly can appreciate the experiential intent. I think maybe the problem is that I'm not running any very interesting cars... and it takes a long time for a row of standard street cars to crawl up the front straight at Laguna Seca. :)

The music thing, tho... it completely disrupts the experience. The pleasing drone of engines gets shattered by a full-volume 10 second blast of tedious 'music'. Ruinous.

I'm not sure if anyone notice this....

the game has a pretty large list of music to play from, BUT it sounds like they always play from the same few songs OVER and OVER and OVER again... this happened in GT3 as well. It got so annoying that I just had to make sure those songs are not played. But then it plays another group of songs over and over again...

GT4 caused my PS2 to get the fatal disc read error (lol). After a week of playing everyday for about 5 hours a day my PS2 called it quits. The worst part is that I just got this one last July. So last night I relcutantly went out, and got a new slim PS2, and this one better not break on me. I have already gone through 4 PS2's since their release. I'm starting to get fustrated.

JohnBM01=

I have owned the game since the day it came out. Yes i have given it a chance. I have played it a few hours when im not busy...

As far as the brakes go... there is a meter next to the speedo that shows how much brake your using... sometimes, i hit full brake and it only goes up a tad.. other times, full nut.. yet sometimes if im steering, it shows brakes applied. And if your on the grass and try to start while the wheels are turned it shows full brake and the car doesnt go anywhere. The Ebrake causes the car to "stall out"... where as in the last one (and during liscensing in this one) you could grab and let go to pitch the car..

I have owned all of the GT games- infact, the only other game I own is ATV3.. I am NOT a gamer.. I dont sit at home play games all of the time.. I am not a 12 year old kid who just cant play the game well.... I bought the PS2 FOR GT4.. and quite frankly, I want my money back.

another tribute to the AI:

in a track meet, driving around Fuji. Exiting the last left hander before the long sweeper before the front straight.

Exiting the turn in my S2000, I run a tad wide, clip the dirt, and go 2 off. I loose the back end a bit, overcorrect coming back onto the track - spin to the right... weeee!

the car slides sideways to a stop. I'm just about to reset the race when BANG! I am T-boned from the right side by AI car #1 who plowed straight into me. the sends me flying sideways down the track a bit further.

AI car #1 makes it by, then BANG! AI car #2 does the same thing, this time pitching my car sideways, sending me flying down the track, spinning around in circles.

4 seconds later:
AI car #3: BANG!

AI car #4: BANG!

after the last time, I am sent flying off into into lala land, coming to rest against the wall in the grass. The last AI car manages to find a spot of track that I do not occupy (any more), and contines on.

weeee

I have the Japanese version and tried to race the Cadillac Cien in the Supercar Festival in Professional Mode, but it wouldn't let me. Oddly enough, the car I had to race against in that race was the Cadillac Cien.
it wouldnt let me use the nuvolari audi.. even theogh one is in the race...

Im getting the "jitters" sometimes at begining of races (not during), and after the races when the result screens apear only when you "look back".

The guy at the store told me that its not normal and it occurs on certain games where the NTS file is corrupt, and i should exchange the game. I did but the same thing happens.

Is this normal or should i keep exchanging games till i get it right???

I think its just a normal glitch that alot of people seem to have. Today I had the jitters during a race. Quite annoying.

Here's one nobody's mentioned yet...

As you may or may not know, you can use the D-pad on the DFP to look around the car at any time: straight back, and to both sides. However, you can also use it to look back at an angle, like you would get when checking your blind spots. You do this by aiming the D-pad diagonally down to the direction you want to look.

But here's the bug... it looks to the wrong side. Try this when you are wasting time sitting at the start line at the one lap magic events: Look left, then left-back, then back, then right-back, then right. You will see that the left-back and right-back views are swapped.

...I do remember when GT2 came out it had a bug or something that you couldnt get 100% (I think thats what it was..) anywho, so has anyone heard of anything or seen anything?

Oh, i never had a problem with it. By the way, i know this is the wrong forum, but did anyone ever fill up their gt2 garage, i did, and i had to buy another memory card to put my other cars on!

Here's a goofy one:

I tried dumping a photo onto a digital camera (HP photosmart 735). Whilst the camera detected the PS2 and was ready and willing to receive data the PS2 didn't recognize it.

Oh well, right? I gave it a try, it didn't work, and I thought that was that.

Immediately after this I go to Arcade Mode, and try racing the 2022 Nike concept car on Opera Paris. I enter it in A-spec mode, but when the race starts the screen has the B-spec commands overlay on it, and the buttons responded as though the race was in B-spec (i.e. the directional buttons adjusted pace, etc.). BUT, the B-spec driver wasn't in it. The race was still occurring in A-spec. The car had no control and hit a wall. X would not adjust throttle, square would not apply brakes, left stick wouldn't steer, etc.

"Maybe it's just a this-car-on-this-track thing?" Nope. Beetle on Nurburgring had the same problem. As did a bunch of other cars and tracks I tried.

I reset the game and it thankfully returned to normal.

The other day I did 2-player mode and starting messing around on Nurburgring. I hit the 2nd player car against the wall located behind the starting line area where there's a "gap" in the border. The impact caused the other car to make it's way to outside and I was able to drive around on the other Nurburgring track, Hockenheim. Too bad it wasn't to scale.

heres a REAL bug, not a complaint or a moan:
if you finish first in a series race, it autoassigns the points to the AI cars based on current position, so even if one of them manages to pass, it doesnt matter, the points are fixed as soon as you cross the line.
kinda annoying if you ask me.

Does anybody know if Polyphony will ever launch an updated version of GT4 later on in the day? Something like GT4 version "1.1" (assume that the current is version 1.0) to solve some of the small bugs?

Maybe some of you guys know what happened with GT3 back in the day. Is there any GT3 version "1.1"?

Any kind of help is greatly appreciated. :)

ALPHA
For Prologue:

It "bibbers" or has a framerate bottle neck on Tsukuba, at the end of the backstraight and at the final end of the last sweeping corner.

Citta Di Aria has a very small bottleneck, right at the end of the long down hill straight when you go underneath the arch which is just before the uphill chicane that is before the hairpin.

As, Horch said, New York has bottlenecks too.

Gran Turismo Concept had the same problems on Autumn Ring II, just after starting off you go under the overbridge and it will happen around there. Pressing triangle only makes it worse. :)

I've noticed the same thing. do you have the new PS2? I do and it happens all the time especially at the start of races.

The description of Variable center differential says “The adjustment range is from 0 front 100 rear to 100 front 0 rear.” But it’s not true, the adjustment is really from 10 front 90 rear to 50 front 50 rear.

I listen to some of you all's complaints, and I think to myself, what is wrong with these people? Do they want blood from the creator or PD? *****ing becuase a car does not sound right, or becuase they added a new penelation system, or about music when you can make your own playlist. Give it up people, the man who created this game put his heart and soul into it and does not stop working. As soon as one game is down he works on the next without a freakin vacation. He is already working on GT5, cut him some slack. So yeah there was delays, well ****-a-doodle-doo, deal with it. This is the best racing/driving sim out there and if it takes more time so be it. All this piss and moan when you should be respectful and aweful of what this man and his staff continues to do game after game. Not just creating new stuff and cars, but perfecting old tracks like laguna.

My only gripe with the game is the jitters too, but they only happen somtimes at the begining or end of a race. I am sure the next game on the PS3 will rememdy this.

That being said, quit *****ing and enjoy the hardwork and love that the past four years has brough us, the best driving sim out there.

not a bug but annoying, lol most cars sound 100x better with stock exasut, for instance, the shelby gt350R. sound like a v6 with after market exuast. stock exasut from shelby. sounds like a low grunting v8 with soothing tranny whine  . i could care less about the *jitters* only in races, like the first corner is annoying, but hitting L1 helps abit.

although i could care less, this game is shigaty shweet :dunce:
