GT4 playable online via Xlink!

How long until the GT people shut this down? =/ - Looking forward to playing it though :)
Why would they shut it down, Why are you curious about it being shut down, It's fun, The more people that know about it means more sales for Sony/PD!!! I like Racing my Rufs against other Rufs in GT4 with Live Intelligence, Nothing like it so far!!!

I've tried a couple of times, but no luck getting this working so far. I can get XLink running, it shows network access is good, shows the PS2 as being properly configured, but the PS2 never gets anywhere beyond "waiting for connection", whether I am attempting to host or join.

I would think that if I were trying to host, it would at least bring me to a menu or something so I can choose the track, cars, etc, but it doesn't.

Anybody who speaka the English want to give it a try tonight?

Ill be getting the US version this week and Ill definitely be trying Xlink out. Ive used it a couple times with a couple Xbox games just to test it out compared to XBConnect. Halo lagged pretty bad but I managed to play Project Gotham Racing 2 fairly successfully.

even if I can get one on one races Ill consider it a success 👍

XLink is a workaround for the non-existent online play mode in GT4. It takes the LAN play and turns it into WAN play... So don't expect the same kind of features that a true online game gives you.

Yeah, it's like XB_Connect for the Xbox. It will be a temporary way to have multiplayer fun until GT4 online releases.

For all those interested in getting started with xLink and getting onto a list of GTP Usernames associated with xLink Usernames, by all means, read the thread in my sig.

Thanks.

Would this set-up work?

I downloaded xlink kai and logged on last night. I saw only 3 other people there. i'm in MD and one guy was in NY. Our ping to each other was consistently 50-60ms. A guy from japan logged on and his was 200+ms. I won't have the game till tomorrow but was just making sure xlink was workin properly. If NY to MD is only 60ms looks like US races are gonna be it. Unless xlink works on their net protocols to be more efficient. Hopefully that's fast enuff. While i was on xlink i had 2 other computers on the network active and the ping was still good. I have a 1.5/128 dsl connection.

I'm sure there will be more people online after tomorrow night.

Yeah. The only commercial release right now is the Japanese one.

Once we North Americans start realizing that there is, indeed, no network mode this time around, people will start looking for an alternative.

I'm just ahead of the game here.
