GT4 playable online via Xlink!

Why did i just hear of Xlink now

So, without having to dig through this thread maybe someone can just update me.

Is it laggy?

Is it Free?

Do you need to have an official copy of the game? I'm playing the import now, i didn't actually pay for it though, just giving it a test drive of sorts. I already have GT4 US pre ordered though. So i'm wondering if it will work.

to answer your questions, ropeadope... yes kai is free, and can be downloaded at www.teamxlink.co.uk as well as everything you need to know about it. yes, it is laggy, depending on who you play with. kai sends out pings to every player in a playing arena. GT4, for example, requires another person to have a ping value of about 40 or less to play a reasonably lag free game. other games have much higher tolerances, and GT4 may be optimized soon so it can be run on higher pings. Until then... the lag is considerable unless you find a person with a respive ping of 40ms or less. and to your last question... if you have LAN mode on the version of GT4 you have, you can play via Xlink. but shh there is no mention of pirated games here. only backups ! later-

One question about the connections. Can I connect my PS2 to a router and then have a wireless connection from that router to a DSL Gateway? I made a... can you call it a diagram?

PC1\
PC2 -> Router -> (wireless connection) ->DSL Gateway -> Internet
PS2/

It's basically setup A but with a wireless link between the router and the modem. Would it work?

it should ! if you can download kai and it detects your PS2 on the network, there should be np problem whatsoever. go to www.teamxlink.co.uk and click on the getting started link. it will show you lots of cool set ups. later-

Thanks for that. I've checked the possible set-ups, i'm just not sure if promiscious mode will be a problem with that setup.

Well it's coming close to release, so I would ask that all of you help us out a little.

In the 'Special Interest' arena, you will see a 'Routing Mode Test Arenas'.

We need as many people as possble on all sorts of pings with all sorts of player amounts to see which mode works best. Try to see how many players you can play with in each mode, what sort of pings work best etc etc.

We'll then set the proper GT4 arena to the mode that reportedly works best.

You have to have a network adapter and a pc router obviously. If you have the PS2 set up for any other online game, you'll be able to play online after you download xlink from the website.

Currently, i can only have my Computer to be online, or my to be online, i can't have them both online simultaneously. That sounds like it'd be a problem, would it?

Also, will lots of people be playing GT4 online when it comes out in the US? I hope so

If you share your internet connection of your computer with the PS2, it will work. But you do need a network adapter on your playstation 2 to be able to connect to the computer.

Sounds ok but does the graphcis get downgraded when playing with 2 people which isnt a big deal lag is the important thing to see of?

i think a special menu should be made(like the car list for GT4) where you can put in your name, city, email/contact info, connection provider/connection speed. that way you can organize with the stats mentioned above, and also that way, looking up people for xlinkplay would be easier.
