The mod community seems to be supporting it rather well. I may be wrong but from what I've heard, the dev team originally did a GT mod for EA's PC F1 games and have since developed it into a full standalone game, based on similar technology.

As a result, the hundreds of mods that were made for EA's F1 games (most notably Career Challenge) are being converted in one form or another over to GT-R. With regards to tracks, I've already downloaded: -

Nur
  • Nurburgring Nordschliefe
  • Laguna Seca
  • Suzuka
  • Imola
  • Indianapolis
  • Hockenheim (old and new)
  • Long Beach
  • Le Mans

and there's plenty more. In addition, people have been creating skins for the existing cars (I've got a great set for the Lotus Elise, each based on the Lotus F1 liveries over the years, such as Camel yellow, & JPS black and gold) and you can get hold of car setups, replays and all sorts more.

Great stuff.

might i ask where you got these tracks?? and do you know where i might be able to find more cars??

Why the hell did we need another GT4vsEnthusia thread....attention whore much?

A review from someone who doesnt even have the DFP is utterly worthless. And anyone who uses the workd "Arcadish" to discribe anything cant be taken seriously.

Anyways, Enthusia is MUCH better than GT4 in terms of physics and DFP support.

So, the fact that we have TWO reviews both saying the same thing is irrelevant? And how does the fact of not having a DFP count for anything? You can't tell physics with the DS2? Get a grip, genius.

An "arcadish" was described by the poster, as having a feel closer to Ridge Racer, but perhaps you managed to miss that part. Seems pretty straightforward description.

Sober up. Or something.

I quit GT4. GTR spoiled me.

It's so rediculously fun/hard/immersive. I just can't give it up.

GT4 isn't that great in comparison. The AI is laughable, the graphics aren't even that great, and the simulation is non existant. The game is too easy. Look at a real driving video, look at their steering inputs. Then see what you do in Gran Turismo. There's no twitch reflexes. No rapid steering input. Everything is smooth. Way too smooth.

GTR isn't like this. If you don't suddenly twitch the wheel to correct that hint of oversteer, you're done for. Throttle control is much more demanding. Everything just immerses you more. And the sounds... Wow. Gran Turismo just isn't even comparable.

PC Sims IMO, have also been superior to Console sims.

From Flight Sim, to GPL, to GTR.

GTR is incredibly awesome. With 56 cars on the track at once, and with each responding to you.

GTR in terms in a very realistic racer. The only console game that I've seen compared to PC Sims would F355 Challenge. 👍

Even with DFP, Enthusia is not as good as GT4 as far as the driving is converned. The feedback is nothing near what you get in GT4. If you look at Enthusia as another "arcadish" game, then I guess it's fun, but if you're looking for realism, then Enthusia offers nearly nothing.

The graphics quality, tracks, driving physics...all are aracade quality

GT-R seems very promising. After reading all the reviews here, I think that's what I'll get next!

You all are on some kind of crack. GT4 offers terrible feedback in comparison. The TFF is MUCH more like a real car in Enthusia. Enthusia so much further from RidgeRacer than GT4 will ever be. GT4 does offer stronger feedback but its much less accurate and dynamic.

Enthusia accurately compared to a real car on a real track:

Shows just how "Arcadish" the physics really are in Enthusia.

g forces mean jack **** in a game. I cant feel them therefore that information is useless to everyone. The only effect g forces will have on cars in a game is how much grip the car will have at certain points. GT4's feedback is far from inaccurate. Infact there is nothing out today to the general consumer that can offer better driving physics and such.

I can't vouch for Enthusia because I haven't played it but your comments are just off.

Take a look at where the info came from, there is a nice video showing how they got the G force data http://konamistudio.co.jp/enthusia/eng/mak/logger_02.html

You can feel the G forces with the DFP and you can experience the G-forces by observing the body roll of the car on the screen. Sound of the tire screetching can also give you sense of the G-forces.

You might be surprised what all is available to the general consumer.

Hmm I'm not sure what the purpose of this post is but if I got it right you compared some fools' quote to mine and came to the conclusion that I don't know what I'm talking about.... if I interpretated that correctly, I have to say that I have ordered the japanese import, as well as he did obviously, it comes from Asia, it takes at least 2 days and it came out on 15th - yes and his post was on 17th and that is why he has probably played it 3 hours... so Kolyana, where is your point ?

Meh, been play GT-R for a few months now. Got really into the game the first 2 weeks. Awesome sound, sense of speed, superb force-feedback and physics. It's really great! But.... I found it to get boring... doing the same few tracks everytime (yes I did download new tracks, but some just weren't fun to drive because it missed the smoothness of real tracks) with the same cars does infact get boring. You get used to how great the sound is, how great the handling is, how fast the game looks. And as soon as you're used to it, the biggest plus factors of the game are gone. Yes the A.I. is good and you can play MP, but unless you succeed in driving perfect laps every round, and the same goes for your buddy online, there's not that much fun. You'll end up with another racing game doing the same laps everytime trying to improve your best times.

Now it's my opinion you shouldn't try to compare GT4 and GT-R too much, they're both racing games and that's about where the comparison ends. GT4 is even more a game than a Simulator, tho yes "The real driving simulation" says different. I had the choice between GT3 and GT-R for quite a few months now and I kept on returning to GT3 after quitting with most of the other games. GT-R is fun now and then, but it lacks loads of little extra's (how arcadish they may be) which GT4 does have and which add alot to the total playtime and addictiveness (is that a word?).

This is all my personal opinion btw, so don't flame me :P

Hi all,

I've just caught up with the all the comments made so far and just want to clarify a few issues: -

1. Regarding the amount of time I've spent playing Enthusia, its probably now around the 5-6 hour mark. Whilst I've accessed new cars and tracks in this time my general opinion of the game remains unchanged. There are times where I have to drive with far more precision than in GT4, with the vehicles becoming more challenging yet there are still times where the game feels like an arcade racer. The best example of this is when you disable all driving aids and keep the throttle at 100% on the startline of any race. I've never experiened any significant wheelspin or slow start with any car. In fact, keeping the throttle at 100% on the startline gives me better starts than if I try to balance the throttle.

2. My existence on this board is not to take shots at GT4. In the comparison review I made earlier, I pointed out that for me, GT-R was the better game. However I did point out why I felt this to be the case, as well as what my preferred game style is. If you take GT-R out of the equation, GT4 in my opinion ranks better than Enthusia, although I have some hope for future versions of Konami's game.

3. I take some issue with the comments regarding an opinion being worthless if I hadnt used the GT4 wheel to play. I don't agree here. The overwhelming majority of people playing GT4 will be doing so with a DS2 pad. In addition, I've played games such as GT-R and Grand Prix Legends for considerable amounts of time using a DS2 pad plugged into my PC via an adaptor. These games with a DS2 still demonstrate a more realistic handling model than GT4 does. Whether this is important to you or not is another matter, I merely want to point out that when I judge these games on my perception of realism, GT4 is lacking behind GT-R. As for Enthusia, as I said earlier, it has moments of realism and other moments which are, for lack of a better description, bizarre.

I just want to point out that when I get home and want to play a racing game, GT4 is the one I pick every time. In the time I've played Enthusia, its not done enough to convince me otherwise (although I will continue to play it in order to make further progress). I don't have a suitable PC at home but its my office PC that has GT-R installed on it, so I'm fortunate enough to be able to play GT-R and GT4 at different times, rather than having to decide on which of the two I want to play.

Grand Prix Legends was released back in 1997 (I believe) and is a game I also still play to this day. My gut feeling is that GT-R has the potential to do the same, with continuing support from the community and the game's future proof structure (for example, you can have races with 100 plus cars on track, a nice feature for PC's of the future).

If I'm still playing GT-R in six years time, we'll probably be up to GT6 on PS3/4 by then. I'm sure that the GT games will continue to set the standard with visuals, car and track numbers but I'd also like to think that by then, handling and racing AI will be improved. AI hasnt evolved at all in the last six years. Perhaps the developers should consider that more of a priority than the addition of new cars.

Well, I just played a little of Enthusia just now...

What I like:

- Real autogearbox. CVT gearbox. If the car is CVT, then you get to choose semi-auto or auto.
-if its manual in real-life, you either use shift-assist(auto) or manual.
-can choose driver aids based on real cars. e.g if a tvr has no TCS...you drive without it. Of course you can switch to on or off also.

What I don't like:

-I missed the GT4 gear/braking indicator. I just dun know where to brake in Enthusia.
-I cannot control a FR car without it sliding all over the place.
-seems not very realistic to me when I can go as fast in a straight line and some times corners in an Estima MPV vs an AC cobra.

I'll do another update once I play the game more.

 "On Crack" LMAO! Well, I guess everyone has their own opinion and the way they perceive and feel things are different. I'm just giving my own thoughts on Enthusia and GT4 after my experiences with both games.

I don't think either GT4 or Enthusia are anything close to a "real driving experience" but still Enthusia seems to be more like an arcade game in driving feel "to me." Yes, GT4 is easy to drive, but the dynamics are more "correct" than in Enthusia.

Regarding the graphs with the G Forces, etc....I've seen those graphs and watched the movie demonstrations showing how the driving physics in Enthusia are supposed to be very close to a real car. That's why I ended up buying Enthusia, because I thought it would offer much more realism compared to GT4. Maybe that's the way the game was supposed to be designed, but I just don't see it.

My video :

My first video in Enthusia, there are drift inside (a little bit).

So enjoy!!

I think that the guys who don't have the game yet should watch this video. This isn't a konami promotional video and it doesn't show anything of the new stuff Enthusia has that GT4 doesn't have (night driving, randomly generated desert tracks, etc.).

Just a normal car in a normal track, driven by one of us.

Watch it and make your decision about buying/not buying this game.

It's as simple as that.

btw, my mind is made up. I'm going to buy it.

You have come to accept the over exagerations and aids in GT4 as being realistic.

I am too dissapointed about the TCS they have in place that doesnt allow wheel spin when standing still. Turning TCS off should mean the TCS is off but and this is a big BUT, it doesnt affect you while driving.

...or does it?

Yes, completely linear with DFP. Not the case with the old DF (I just tried with my GT Force) and DS2.

I got a RX-8 going in circles easily in Enthusia, but I cannot do that even with N1 tyre on the same RX-8 in GT4.

Both files are 320x240 59.94fps WMV, around 10MB

Enthusia RX-8 Tsukuba

GT4 RX-8 N1 Tsukuba

If not much trouble, please also kindly let me know the max download speed on my current server.

I think the reason it is hard to pull donuts in GT4 is because the default settings have "variable" speed steering. As the wheels spin faster, the steering will automatically straighten itself (even if you still have it at full lock).

Try using a car that you can see the from wheels. Use the Nike One concept for example. Come to a complete stop and turn the wheel to maximum lock. You can see the wheels are turned fully. Now floor it and you will see that the front wheels will automatically straighten itself out as the rear wheels spins, even though you still have it in full lock. The car will stablize itself by automatically staightening the steering.

This is the reason why you can't do donuts in GT4. The steering is variable assisted. I am not sure, but I think you can change the setting to simulation, or professional, or some other setings to allow donuts (but this will result in less stability at high speed). Some of these settings are for DF only (not available to DFP).

This is true with the DS2 and the old 180 degree wheels. But with the DFP you have linear steering in GT4 and you still cannot pull off realistic donuts.
