cool... thx for the review!

as my PC sucks (still have a 733, and my laptop is a P-M900), and i dun really mind the AI because i enjoy feeling the cars more.... seem like GT4 is the winner to me... :)

Why the hell did we need another GT4vsEnthusia thread....attention whore much?

A review from someone who doesnt even have the DFP is utterly worthless. And anyone who uses the workd "Arcadish" to discribe anything cant be taken seriously.

Anyways, Enthusia is MUCH better than GT4 in terms of physics and DFP support.

excuse me, but not everyone here has a DFP...

Totally agree mate, glad someone had the balls to say it on here too. As I understood it Enthusia was supposed to be more realistic than GT4 though..? Haven't played Enthusia but have used my Driving Force wheel on GTR and have to agree, it is so hard it makes me want to cry, I love it! Thought GTR looks the best of the lot though, I'm running on a quick PC though...

Enthusia IS more realistic than GT4.. i can vouch for that, the steering feel is very different, and the car feels more planted on the tarmac than in GT4.. it's not a HUGE difference, enthusia just feels like driving a real car, not just a game, it's a pitty they don't even bothered with LAN support... they needed something to compensate for the fact that they got less cars (i can live with that) and a lot less tracks too (this i hate...)
online play would've fit the bill nicely.. but nope.. not even LAN.
The handling of the cars ist ruly on a class of it's own... (i don't play games with out DFP, so i can't give dual shock impresions, and frankly i don't care.. both GT4 and Enthusia are MADE for a steering wheel.)

All i have to say.. is that if GT4 handled the way enthusia does (and had the same gear ratios... Enthusia got this right, PD fiddled with those for some reason, oh yeah, and the sounds are better in Enthusia) the game would be... perfect, i wouldn't ask for anything else from GT4, even if it meant no online play, i REALLY hope that the next GT at least matches this in terms of accuracy. Enthusia has great wheel support, but it's missing some feedback though, in GT4 is in fact a bit exagerated to compensate for the fact that you can't feel G forces, so they put some of that "feel" into the wheel.

Anyway, Konami really did their homework when it comes to the cars and how they should handle, on the rain and snow they behave exactly like they should... but even with that.. the game has some strong short commings that can't be dissmised. so all in all, i still preffer GT4 over Enthusia, i think the GT4 versions of the tracks are more faithful than those in enthusia (at least Nurburgring, Tsukuba looks pretty much the same). Nurburgring is very good on Enthusia... but it's missing some very important bumps that affect the lap times.
and oh man... that togue track is amazing.. i wish GT4 had it... you FEEL like you're in initial D when you play on that mountain pass, really amazing, one of the best "tracks" in the game. (best of course is nurburgring :P)

I just got Enthusia. I have only spent about 1 hour with it. I ran a couple of laps on the Nurburgring only. I can say GT4 is much better here.

The first thing that struck me as being very odd was that there were no graffiti on the road! Without the graffiti, the sense of speed and realism was greatly reduced. On the final long straight, the road looked so strange. It looked like my car was being pulled by a conveyor's belt. No bumps, no graffiti, nothing... just a grey strip. It is hard to describe.

The road was not "bumpy" like in GT4. Also, it was very forgiving when I my wheel ran on the grass, no matter at what speed. Even when at 300 km/hrs, I can have half my car on the grass and still maintain control.

Is it just me, but Enthusia's Nurburgring seem very dark and cloudy. Maybe it was by design. The colour pallet was very grey. It looked like the sky clouded over just before a thunderstorm.

The force feedback on my DF wheel was about 1/3 those of GT4. Not only was it weaker, but more importantly, there were much less of it. As long as I stayed on the road (not touch the rumble strips or gravel), there were very little feedback. It felt almost as if the wheel was unplug. It felt too smooth.

Graphics-wise, if I give GT4 a 10, I'd give Enthusia a 7.5 One thing that GT4 does very well were the replay. This goes all the way back from GT1. GT's replays always had an "artistic" professional feel to it. The camera angles, the camera shakes, the zooms, etc, all look very artistic (in a good way).

This is just a quick pre-pre-preliminary impression of Enthusia. I only fooled around with the Enthusia and on only one track. I need more time to give it a fair judgement.

For GTR, how much CPU processing speed and video card speed/memory is needed to get the full benefit of the game? If the game is that great, then I'm willing to build a proper PC for it.

UH, is Enthusia even out yet?

B/c we've got some members saying they've got it.

The japanese version came out on 15th, and if you ordered it with UPS Express you already have it, mine comes with airmail... but it's ok, I have a lot of work right now and next week I've time... :)

GT4 makes GTR look like a game from the '90s.

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a while.

Hey guess what!

GTR puts GT4's physics to shame.

Dude, almost any PC sim is going to be a bit more of a sim than alot of console games.

GPL is very old, yet the physics are better than GT4.

Yeah, add paiting to the road and you get 100% more of realism. 💡

It is not as bumpy as in GT4, but it is still bumpy.

At the start of a game, you have to adjust your screen to see "F" letter

There are 3 force feedback settings in enthusia, you might want to check it - i have the one that is most to the right. And enthusia gives you feedback that you would get in real life, not more.

I like enthusia replays more, because the way in which car handles looks much more realistic, for example take mazda mx-5 to marco strada wet and drift it around, later watch the replay.

:)

By the way, enthusia doesn't have 700 cars like gt4, but here every car drives different, and different in a way in which you can feel it easily that cars aren't the same.

GTR is a good game, but i think that anyone who buys a new pc because of it will be dissapointed. It was nice to play while waiting for GT4 and after renting it a few days it just got boring. There are some strong points about the physics (f.e.oversteer) although GT is better in some aspects (weight transfer).Overall i get MUCH more fun of driving a car fast on a track in GT,for me GTR ain't comparable in that area (and many others like graphics,CARS,tracks).
If good AI in a race and many cars at once on a track is what thrills you the most then you should get GTR for sure, maybe then it's even worth the pc...

And please,i like GPL too,but you really think the whole physics model of gpl is better than GT4's??? It's fun how the brakes lock up but i don't know what else is better, please explain

Didn't play enthusia yet, does anybody know when it comes to europe?

LOL, the Papyrus physics have been outdone by Polyphony. Technology, time and investment has been greater even if enthusiasm has been similar.

GTR's physics also fail to match GT4. More importanty, they have fundamental flaws such as weight transfer, particularly as relates to force feedback. And the bouncing is unrealistic too. At worst, GT4 averages out the damper strokes and this provides a bit of a smooth ride, but with a physics sampling rate of 50/60 times a second it is still miles sharper and more responsive than GPL or NR2003 and their mods, not to mention EA's brilliant F1 physics, which had sampling rates up to 2000Hz.

No game has even come within a mile of GT4 on PC until GTR, which isn't even out yet in many parts of the world. GTR is OK but just not quite in the same league.

"Back when John Major was Prime Minister"? GT came out in spring 1998 in the UK fella - Tony Blair had been in power a full year by then. The Japanese version was out in December 1997. :)

It's interesting reading everyone's views on each game (GT4, Enthusia, GTR). I guess each person has a different view of how "real driving" should feel, so their opinions are different on each game.

BTW - Are the only real tracks in Enthusia Tsukuba and the Ring???? I've been playing Enthusia for a few days, but it seems 99% of the tracks are original "Highway" type tracks, which makes the game feel even more arcadish. Kind of like Ridge Racer on steroids...in that regard, I guess for those that might think Ridge Racer is realistic, then maybe Enthusia is worth the buy :)

There's just no way this is correct. Gran Turismo's traction physics are laughable at best. I don't even think I need to explain this, as it's so blatantly obvious.

Also, you say that the bouncing of the cars is unrealistic in GTR... Watch a real GTR race on TV. Watch how those cars bounce.

I think the easiest way to tell how realistic a game is is by looking at the steering inputs when driving a faster car. In Gran Turismo, the inputs are smooth and consistant, which is to say, most unrealistic. In GTR, the steering input line on MOTEC is so jagged it looks like a seismograph. To keep the car under control while putting so much power down, it's impossible to do just a smooth input without slamming a wall.

Gran Turismo is a good game to learn how to make a correct racing line on. GTR does that while teaching you intricate car control and oversteer correction. It's a much more demanding experience, and for me, that equates to more fun.

I had to see what all the hoop-la was about with this GTR game. I downloaded the Demo2 that has the Spa track and the 360 Modena race car. I am using a DFP with the game in cockpit view. WOW. The first thing that struck me was the sounds. This is how GT4 should have sounded. Even the noise that the game plays when you shift sounds accurate. At high speeds, your head bobs around. Plus the graphics don't seem that bad, and if you played them on a tv at 640x480, it would probably look pretty close to GT4. With that said, I suck in this game. It will take a lot more practice before I get good. If this is closer to a real sim than GT4, then even though I'm an ace at GT4, I would make a crappy race car driver.

One question for those that use a DFP with the game. Do you play in 900 or 200 degree mode? 200 seems to match up better with the wheel that is in the cockpit.

First off, if you've got the graphics maxed, this game completely blows GT4 out of the water graphics-wise.

Now, get the new Logitech Wingman Profiler thing... Set the game up and make it so that the wheel turns 270 degrees and it matches perfectly.

I do have them maxed and it does look quite good. I guess was refering to the people with average pcs.

Thanks for the tip on the 270 degree.

Edit: with the wheel in 270 degree mode, this game is much better. at 200 it was hard to control because i kept oversteering, and at 900, i had way to much understeer. These new DFP drivers are awesome how they allow you to set exactly how much turning radius you want.

Now the only thing I need to get working is to have this game output to my HDTV.

Yeah but the review left out everyone who does and that is where the game really shines.

Yeah but if you have to buy a $150 accessory for a $50 game to really shine, then something is seriously wrong with the design.

$200 is just too much to spend for a ******* video game.

totally agree, I have a mate who has the DFP and I have the NON PRO DF and he came and drove in GT4 with my wheel and he said that besides the little extra features on the DFP, and the rubber wheel the difference between the 2 are minimal. So I ain't going to waste another $300 on another wheel for 1 game.

there is a difference. the DF feels like a toy to me. The DFP has 900 degree steering so driving real roadcars is hella more realistic. Plus a stick sequentail shifter as well as paddles. THe DFP feels 3 times better than the DF which feels like a plastic toy. The Force feedback for the DFP feels stronger (Even stronger in PC games when using 900 mode) than the DF.

Lots of people feel Live For Speed has more realistic physics than gt4. S2 will improve LFS's physics exponentially.

I plan on buying Enthusia as soon as its released in the U.S. A lot of hardcore sim peeps i know say Enthusia feels more realistic than even LFS S1. Of course they are using the driving force pro. 👍

$150? $300? WTF, you can get the wheel shipped from most places for $110. And yes there is a huge difference from the old wheel. Much better build quality, much more accurate, much stronger feedback and 900 degrees of linear steering makes a HUGE difference.

There are a lot of people on this site who gave about 200$ for GT4 + DFP and are very glad they did,i'm one of them...

can't be that bad since we're enjoying it so much...

if you think it's to expensive there's a simple solution: play something else
