Well this is the ps2 people. But notice I said, looks better. I wouldn't say forza's cars look as good as gt4's, to be honest, they dont look nearly as realistic as gt4's cars.

yep. Concerning the car models, I'd say they look like ones from an F1 mod with some pretty effects thrown on: accurate, but very simplistic looking. The wheels still bug me as well.

They don't seem to be painstakingly pored over like the ones in the GT series. Then again, that just means their car modellers aren't as talented as PD's, it doesn't mean the game is crappy.

I know they're not the same car, but it's close enough. I'll take forza's models and reflections, thank you! 👍

This is relevent to Forza or GT4 how ?

Your first post reads : "Which brings me to my point i'm either going to buy a XBox or PS2 depending on the quality of GT4 or Forza".
which looks to me like you assume you will bury yourself in a room and play alone (or on-line) for the rest of you life. I just wanted to point out that some aspects could also be taken into account :

- multi-player games can be much more fun than single-player on on-line games ;
- other games do exist and you might want to play at some role-playing or first person shooter or whatever games in a close future ;
- trading the games you've already finished with friends is also a cheap way to have more games.

If you already considered these points and found out that how GT4 and Forza compared was the only question that was worth it, just ignore my post.
Since you specified that you're new to console gaming, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Isn't that more like 3 reasons ;)
You have a point here...

I know 5 people who bought a mars bar, yet, I know nobody who bought a snickers bar, so I went along with the crowd and bought a mars bar, because I lack the mental capacity to make up my own mind... :dunce:
Once you've eaten your mars bar you won't be able to do much with it (except dispose of it in the usual way, and that's of no interest here).
Once you've finished a game you can trade it for some other game that a friend has finished.
So I don't care what my friends eat, but I do care what console they have when I'm planning to buy one. ;)

Just saw the vids...I am really impressed. The damage is really well done and looks like a lot of fun. The sounds are perfect. The animation of the cars is done well...much better than before. Totally open my eyes...Forza has redeemed itself. The only things I don't like are the cheesy sparks when you touch another car, the over-done tire marks, and the way the super cars look like they are floating. Also AI plays like GT. Everything else is top notch. They've already killed NFSU w/ the kits and Burnout w/ the damage...GT4 may be next but I'd have to play it to decide.

Wasnt this thread at page 102 like 6 days ago?

Yep...another 30 pages of the same stuff that can be found on page 1 :dunce:

Still posting those high res pics, like their actually going to be on the x-box

Even cobra doesn't post Photomode pics anymore claiming they are in game.

Well tacet blue, you will find that most GT4 screen shots are pure BS too ya know. Well at least they give you an ideam I've found the best way is too watch vids anyway. In the vids forza looks pretty damn sharp anyway.

Those forza muscle car screenies look in game though, which is more then can be said for the Gt4 shots in the same post.

I know! You just have to look at the back of the GT3 box to realise that they use renders on the packaging too.

Its just the videos look nothing like as sharp as those still shots, I think they are fantastic renders, but since there is no photo mode in Forza (or is there?) where are they coming from?

I just saw the new El Capitan vids and now I remember why I love GT so much :) Almost forgot w/ the new Forza vids :embarrassed:

They're not renders, trust me. It's the same screenshot, just shrinked down a lot. Ill prove it to you. Take this pic of GT4.

Now, as I shrink it down to what it would look like on the GT4 box, notice how it looks about a billion times better:

Nice pics :) But get your GT3 box out (PAL version) and look at the top three pictures...tell me...does that speed blur look like in game :) Also look at the detail on the peugeot rally car...GT3 was never that good.

They all do it to advertise their graphics, but to compare games from these type of pics is just wrong...I've looked at the latest Forza vids, they are good,(better AA than GT4 without a doubt) but they are still not in the same league as the sharpness of the stills.

Yes they does adversite their graphics but it looks still very good in the game ;)

Sound

The sounds we're amazing, the only thing that can compare to it is GTR and that's in another class but the engines sounded like there real life counterparts.

One red flag in the realism department right now is engine noise, though, which unfortunately for Forza has always been a strong point of the GT series. The current version of Microsoft's game tends toward bland, uniform engine sounds -- a Lotus Elise, for instance, doesn't come close to the full-throated sound in the back of your head that the real thing delivers. A turbocharged Impreza falls short of GT's neat blend of the engine revving high and the turbo screaming above it. The game's far enough off that we can hope for better things later on, though.

Hmm..

I dont need to look at pics to know gt4 looks better visually. There are more than enough vids online that show great gt4 looks and how damn photorealistic it looks. Forget those pre-race photomode pics, give me vids. The game looks best in motion, period. Forza looks good and all but it resembles that of an arcade racer and its realistic looks are weak as hell were as gt4's realistic looks are teh amazing! Look at the new b spec vid posted in tiptop's thread, nuff said.

Uhm, if those guys think that the engine noise has always been a strong point of the GT series, I wouldn't take em serious.

definitely.

At the end of the day, they're just game journalists, and what they write is very subjective. I always thought the low point in GT games was the sound.

Lol Yeah, anybody that has played GT as long as I do or everybody else here clearly knows GT sounds are the weakest link. I never listen to that kind of journalist, because they have played th game for about 15 minutes and they do a review after.Seriously.... :dunce:

See ya :sly:

I remember all that business a few threads back about forza's physics being "more forgiving than GT4" or whatnot. That was posted on IGN by some correspondant from TGS (or maybe that German Games con), after he'd played it for a short while on the show floor. That and he also had no clue about what he was talking about.

Likewise, a lot of game sites claim Forza is super-realistic just because they can't be bothered to learn how to drive or cope with sims, so it seems deep to them.

Cobra, if you think forzas super sharp (for a console) and detailed graphics are weak, you seriously need your head checking. Now it's all good and well prefering Gt4s realistic style (I certainly do), but even you must be able to appreciate the better textures, smoother and sharper (not to mention more detailed) enviroments, higher detail cars (with damage etc), etc etc that forza has.
Sounds in those vids seemed better then GT *anything* to me.

Ok, I do agree with you on the car textures etc (exept the wheels), but do you really think that the enviroment in Forza looks better than in GT4?? Because the video's I saw of Forza it just seemed kind of boring and empty to me.. :ill:

yeah I do, pretty much. The detail and lighting is nicer.

It's cool that light is reflected and radiated onto the cars. Like sunlight reflecting off the tarmac creates a dim glow on parts of the car. That's a cool touch.

El capitan is stunning though, as far as fictional courses go.

The verson of Forza I have driven recently was riddled with bugs, so it was hard for me to really appreciate the gaming experience. But what was very clear to see, was that Forza had a less realistic image quality than GT4 and GT3. It looked very good, but it seemed to me that it looked somewhat pale to me. Just as in PGR and PGR2 the resolution and detail is high but the overal feel is less realistic in some way.

What do you want, a fricking ferris wheel? It's a race course, they arn't exactly the most thrilling places in terms of visuals lol. But yes, I do. They have more detail, FAR FAR high poly counts, and the textures look alot sweeter. On some vids it has more exotic tracks, in citys etc with nice loverly scenery.

forza-motorsport-20040915041736570.jpg

corrr look at those people, they look real!!

(for the dumb I'm being sarcastic)

But my point is if ya look at the grand stand, it's visually of a higher quality that's all I meant.

On a side note, whatched those vids again, LOVERLY sound effects, especially when the cars are on the rough edges of the track. I was also quite impressed by the feeling of contact the cars seemed to have with the tarmac, when that 350z braked hard, it really did look like the tyres were gripping like mad...or mehbeh I'm just being stupid :dunce:

Yeah. Forza's cardboard cutouts totally own GT's cardboard cutouts! :sly:

Hey last night I realised something. I've usually been thinking that even if Forza has about 200 cars, it's still enough to have good fun. But I'm now questionning myself about it. Compared to the 650+ cars of GT4, 200 seems very meager, even with all the quality rides featured in Forza. and moreover, we already know 160 cars that are there for sure, so this is 80% of the car lineup revealed. Will there still be room for surprises? My only hope is that even if 200 is the official number, there will be more in the final count and I think that's waht they'll do, because it has always been like that with GT, and they will follow GT's path.

Just my toughts

see ya :sly:
