GT4 WRS Week 14: "Italian Golf Course"

I don't have any techniques but I'll tell you what's going on. Apparently I've developed DFP syndrome. The doctor tells me to "hand over hand" the hairpins instead of wrapping my arms around each other. He said it'll be 2 weeks before they unwind. Wrapping is very painful and is NOT recommended.

I started using DS2 for this race but the way I used the DFP in the final hairpins was to shift both of your hands right before you turn, ex. (the left turn I would put my right hand at the top of the wheel and left would shift down a little bit, then turn using the right hand and maybe use the left hand to bring it around more.)

It is actually really fun to drive so reallistically but consistancy is a *****, so I'm using DS2 on this one.
 
Wow, after what casio said I have no confidence :) I hit mostly 43ish around T1,...and worse in T2 and T3...Im losing my GT experience!! :crazy: :drool:
 
yeh my technique is, my left hand comes over and grabs the right side of the wheel... then i downshift with the stick with my right hand

for the right hairpin, i use both my hands on the left side of the wheel

i practiced in the special conditions, i love it when you spiral down that hill into the left hand hairpin, and ive perfected it.
 
Back again for this week, did everyone miss me!? *listens to sound of crickets and the distant howl of a coyote*

Anyway, quite happy with these times so far

T1: 41.674 (seen 41.2xx)
T2: 1'07.732 (happy with this sector)
T3: 1'42.591

Hopefully I can pick up the half-second I lost in the first sector and get deep into the 1'41s for T3.

How are people approaching the hairpin at the bottom of the hill before T3? I find I have to brake early but gently to avoid lurid slides. Is there any way to use full braking there?

Good question!!

Still trying to figure this track out myself, T2 to T3 seems to be the most difficult section, I have improved a little but I'm still not close to finding the fastest way down this mountain :ill:

In response to the above question I wondered that exact thing and it sounds like we approach the turn the same way, however I am trying to figure out a way to powerslide that corner as this seems to be the culpret (sp?) to me being almost 2 sec behind 'Da 'H' Borthers' (my new nickname for holl01 and hOt6o4bOi - I know its cheesy but....) but that will come later, I have the rest of the track to try to get together...lol.

Just figured out a cool little trick to speeding up the replay process, now a lot of u may already know but if during a replay u just want to see your T times try hitting L3 and see what happens, then to turn off the speed-up press L3 again, very cool!

I'd say the DFP guys have the advantage on the hairpins since it is much easier to control throttle there where such control is most needed. However, I can see the steering itself being a problem (as noted by some of you!). I think taking them with a normal centered apex would be safest, but if you can manage it, a slightly later apex ought to yield faster time.

Of course, you'll have to have superhuman control with your DS2!

Why not keep both hands on the wheel and use the paddles??
 
Because you need more than half a turn of lock, which means taking your hands off the wheel and making the paddles unreachable.

This is why rally cars don't use F1 style paddle-shift. Even though they have sequential 'boxes, they use either a lever mounted to the column or, in the case of Peugeot, a complete ring behind the wheel for upshifts and a ring in front of the wheel for downshifts.

Took me a while to get used to this car. I might be able to do better by the weekend. i'm loosing time between 2 and 3, the downhill hairpin is killing me.
 
UPDATE**

T1 - 41.174 (seen 40.984)
T2 - 1'07.285 (almost perfect)
T3 - 1'41.838 (corner after this is a problem)

could shave another .5 off my final time with a few adjustments
 
Jee guys...I just check and there are at least 6 posts relating to me, enough about me!!! Also note on that lap I did ball up the last hairpin with heaps of wheelspin...arghh

I think the key to this track is exit speed, doing a late apex cuts the time down alot. Even more so in this car, because of the extreme understeer, then you can just understeer to the outside clipping point instead of understeering into the wall.

Also, on the back 'straight', you can take every corner on full thottle, if you use a little bit of 'left foot braking', which is alot easier for you DPF users, and physically impossible for anybody who uses the analoge stick for the power. You still need a bit of touch on the DS2 to get some slight braking while on full power if you're using the buttons. I find it 1-2 seconds quicker doing that then fully letting off the power, or braking for them. And there is the 1-2 seconds I seem to be up on T3, as I'm only in 1:08 if I recall on T2....

This can also be used on the right hander after the back straight, going into the down hill section. Great chunks of time, can be cut there using this...But it is slightly harder, as I find you need about 70-80% power, 30-35% brake to get around this one...


Ohh and that time....I wasn't using an R32....I was using the 1976 GTi MKI :P

I'm away this weekend, so i probably won't be doing any laps for a few days :(

i would love to hear some of the DFP user's techniques on the final hairpins!

theres no way the wheel is in too much of an advantage :crazy:

I haven't tried this race and I haven't played gt4 for weeks but I remember that I used 1st gear for those last 2 hairpins in that S4 licence with pretty fast Lancia Stratos,you get more speed through the corner although that car is very unstable because TCS is off in that license.As I said,I haven't tried this race but I think the 1st gear is the way to go(same goes for that lap guide at Costa with Peugeot)! 👍

from T3 on i made up about a second from my previous fast time so its all good. :) 👍
 
It's good to see the WRS still going strong 👍

I haven't raced GT4 in ages! ... but I need to get the feel of it again, so I will blow the cobwebs of my PS2 tonight and give this combo a whirl :)
wont be anywhere near the top runners ... but I'm happy to take a slow cruise around Amalfi ... great track! not tried car yet in GT4

Hopefully if I rember to run this I will be back soon ;)

I can't remember what it was exactly, I was too busy trying to make the dam thing turn....I think I might have to so manual this week...But all that effort....It's really not worth it....

I like this track better in reverse....

you may grumble my fellow D3'er but you'll be pleased to know your still a good 2 seconds ahead of me!!! :nervous:

I just realized that I said the technique backwards, :drool: (for a left hairpin, I would shift my hands to the right, right before the turn, my left hand would shift to the top of the wheel and right would shift down from the normal grip, that way when you turn you don't really have to do the hand over hand you just do the pretzel thing but you are turning more than normal.

I hope that made some kind of sense.

HHmmm....it seems every week this happens, I have a slower T1 and T2, but finally keep SOM momentum at the downhill hairpin and trim .1 there and really nail the last portion of the track to trim .5 sec, but I can trim another .3 or .4 in T1 and T2...*INSERT YELL HERE*
