GT4 WRS Week 16: "Alright, Who's NSX'd?"

Just ran a few (less than 10) laps with the Mobil 1.

Is it just me or do these cars not like to turn and brake (at high speed) at the same time? Slowing for the first hairpin (and the next 5th gear right kink) is sketchy for me!

Using settings from Jump Ace.

T1 0'34.140
T2 1'06.342

I really like this combo!

I also now just put the final gear settings to 3.850 and the auto to 12 and it got a little bit more torque out of the turns, FYI. Definately having fun with this one PROPS CFM! But alas, I must stop and watch XXX II!

Get the Mobil or the Mugen, as they will be several seconds faster and everyone will end up using them.

Cool ... I was looking at them in the showroom and had decided on the Mobil ... so attractive looking ... so I'm glad that it's also the fast choice (I'm all about looks man, waaaaaaaaaaaaay superficial :P)

EDIT: oopsie ... I just took a stock Mobil around the track for a few laps and logged a pretty damned decent T2 ... even after I was pretty damn sloppy in tht entire mid section. I was just thinking how you guys must SUCK at driving when I realized that I hadn't added the 70kg of ballast :P

EDIT 2: Running T2 1'05.010 in the Mobil, stock. I need to change the gearing and downforce, that's for sure, but I may take a look at what Jump posted on the previous page and go from there.

The car handles way differently than the Garaiya I've been running in the JGTC, so there's a learning curve here ... certainly likes to turn under power and the back end can get loose quite easily.

Really fun combo. Thanks CFM.

The first thing I want to know is how much time do you spend thinking up snappy titles for the week's event CFM? :P :P You've got a knack that's for sure! :)

Ok. Did first 1.5 hr session. Had to get all reaquainted with the track cause haven't driven it in seems like years. What a great track though! It's got everything....which seems to be the point....but the way to drive it is much different than I remember.

First of all I just tested 2 cars, the Arta, and the Mobile1. Did the Arta first just cause it was always slow, so I didn't figure that would change much and thought I should be able to handle it anyway. LOL! And I wasn't disappointed with the snap hook tendencies of the high powered MR's either. But anyway I remembered an old setup that while not extremely fast, makes it easy to drive the car. Sure enough it still works. So for those that are having trouble with EXTREME oversteer as in the ends swap just by hittin the brakes when you have the teeniest bit of steering input, here you go. This setup is fairly neutral (even a little understeering) and you can hit curbs without hooking the tires. Setup is for both cars, but a couple exceptions that will be noted:

tires- R5 f/b
bb- 4/5
suspension
8.8/11.8
80/80
3/4
6/7
2/1
0/0
3/4

gears- (arta auto 15) (mobile1 auto 17)
aids-20/0/1
df-50/70
lsd- 5/30/45
mobile 1 ballast 70kg@-25

keep in mind this is just a rough setup to get you round the track without having a coronary. Once you get used to the car, adjustments can be made to make it faster.

First rough t-times. Clean, but nowhere near potential.

Arta
(T1: 32.069)
(T2: 1'02.995)

Mobile 1
T1: 31.709
T2: 1'01.885

I spent the majority of time in the Arta. IMO not only is the Mobile faster, but it handles much better also. The T2 was after only 3 or 4 laps in the Mobile which was enough to convince me that it will be my choice this week. That is unless the Mugen proves to be better....... :mischievous:

That's it. Give the setup a try! I hope it gets you round in Grand fashion.....Ok. I'll shut up now. :D

Is it just me or is this car impossible? I cant even touch the brakes going into turn 1 or the ass end comes around so quick. Err, this is awful frustrating! Could anyone be so kind as to help me? I fear if I struggle with this too much longer I will smash my ps2 in fist of rage.

@Kenny, those will be up sometime this week I imagine. I've had some personal things come up the last few days and I haven't really been able to race since like last Thur and a little today. I'll get around to it no worries.

@veil, I COULD do the tranny trick but I decided against doing that anymore as it is more or less unrealistic IMO. But ur already flying around the track nice work buddy!

Mixed & matched a couple of settings posted here and umm...it's gonna need more tuning, which is really not my area. :dunce:

Raybrig:

T1: 31.706
T2: 1'01.956

Mobil:

T1: 31.317
T2: 1'01.015

Ok.. for the first 30 minutes or so, I hated this week with a passion already. Better than the FF of last week (no offense, Kent, just not what I am good at driving), though. Then again, I had only tested the Raybrig so far. Had a go with all of these NSXs the other night at El Capitan and preferred the Raybrig's handling there, but I guess it's a completely different story at GVS. I didn't even have to start tuning the Mobil 1 to realize its superiority over the Raybrig (all other models remain untested as of this post).

Anyhow, splits are like this:

T1: 0'30.778 (seen 0'30.568)
T2: 0'59.921

P.S. I find the tranny trick to be *very helpful this week.

Sounds good.

I'M LOVING IT!!!! What a rush!!! Wow, I'm running around in the Loctite right now, been down to 1'03.6xx in it so far with a first lap of 1'06, sooooooo much fun. My heart's pounding... Wow wow wow. AWESOME COMBO!!! Yes, can you tell I'm enjoying it? Lol. I've done the gear trick, and played with the suspension a bit, stiffened it up some more, trying to get rid of weight transfer with that and other methods :). I'll post it up after I lay some more down with some more laps.

Ok, back to it...

uhh... is the tranny trick allowed in the BC competition...

if it isn't why does the WRS alow it...

Why wouldn't it be allowed ?

It's simply a setting's trick, not cheat.

After not being able to run last weeks race I'm glad to be back running with this weeks combo. Excellent choice CFM! 👍 👍

I started out with the Raybrig but then switched to the LOCTITE and have had better luck controlling it.

T1: 31.007
T2: 1'01.122

By the look of everyones times it looks like I'll have to go manual this week....I'm usually much to lazy to use it.

The only settings I've changed have been

-Max downforce
-Full lowered ride hieght (45/45)
-Ballast
-Gear Ratios

I hate tuning, so I really don't think I'll go well this week...

havent run this one yet, but i believe the tranny trick is useless
it simply doesnt work, basically, to do a fast time on any circuit and with any car, u hav to maintain the highest momentum possible, and to achieve this, u have to do take the corners fast, but smooth at the same time, and always focussing on how to get the best possible exit speed.

the tranny trick does not make u faster, as the more u change the gears, the more time u spend (although it may b brief) in nuetral, hence, u actually spend more time not accelerating than if u have gears set properly. thats just my opinion, but i know from experience that the tranny trick is a load of ****.

yet to try the combo yet, soon though, and a full setup will b provided as promised

Looks like the '00 models cars can't keep up with the '01 models. No wonder my splits were so far off. Guess if I wanna run this week I'll have to start over with the Mobil 1 or the Loctite.👎 Sorry I couldn't give you guys more variety. I guess simple P/W doesn't mean anything even in similar cars.:indiff:

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, all of the cars for this combo have a weird problem on my PS2, not sure if anyone else experiences it, but the car seems jittery in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears, the needle seems very jittery, hope this sounds like a good explanation, does anyone else have this problem ? Or is it only me ?? The handling is fine, but just the revs seems to be acting strange ?

And on the start/finish straight, I can hear the tyres squeal the whole time, even with TCS on ... ? Sounds like the tyres are bouncing or somethin ??

Yeah, coming into the final corner. In auto, it changes from 5th, to 6th, then back to 5th, then back to 6th.

And yeah, it just confirms to me that all NSXs are awful.

Leaderboard Updated :) I've got to apologize in advance. This week is really busy for me, and the leaderboard likely won't be updated as often as usual (which isn't that often to begin with :embarrassed: )

@tannis: good to see you back! It's been awhile ...

A thought about the tranny trick: there seems to be a misconception that the tranny trick is 'unrealistic' or 'cheating'. Think of it this way: in the real world, a car's transmission doesn't have an 'auto' setting. In GT4, both the auto setting and the final drive affect the overall relationship between the gears. The tranny trick eliminates the auto setting from the equation, so that the final drive setting is the only thing affecting the overall relationship between the gears. It's actually more realistic, than using the auto setting.

Hey Todd, I have a question regarding these two vehicles:

Honda Takata Dome NSX (JGTC) '03
NSX-R Prototype LM Race Car '02

Would they be allowed to partecipate in the race with the proper P/W ratio?

Just thought they would add to the variety and maybe not everybody will end up with the Mobil 1 and the Loctite...

...Even if the Mobil 1 was my first choice - just a matter of looks :D

Later.

The Wizard.

I have to like about this one... last night, before JGTC qualify, spent 30 minutes running to see how the cars handle... and well, it´s going to be a long week of tuning... that ballast weight on the 01 models are a c***, but the 00 models are just slower... anyway, i started with the Loctite Mugen ´01 but then i saw that the car was still rough, so i bought the Castrol Mugen ´00 (i know not many people choose this one)

ran a few laps and came up with this:

T1: 31´723
T2: 1´01´562

considering that was 10 laps or so, and that i was running with the slower model, that´s ok... lets see if i can race tonight...

ok... now i know im not a brillient driver, far from it, but in no other car in the whole of the GT series have i gone to slam on the brakes and the back end has decided to do some ballet!! I think i have spent more time backwards so far!! does anyone have any ideas on how to sort it out.... im in the Loctite Mugan... any settings would be appreciated.

kragbees: you are most definetely not my friend... the needles jittering around all over the place and the tires are either wheelspinning or bouncing around all over the place!

Well I've put down a few laps now and am starting to understand the combo for this week. My splits at this early stage (in the Mobil 1) are:

T1: 0'33.080
T2: 1'03.509

Watching the replay as I note the splits it's quite a hesitant lap so I'm confident I should be able to get a T1 in the low 32's maybe 31's and T2 hopefully into the 1'01's and that's with practically default settings, all I've done is slam it, widen the gears a little, take off ASM and at the moment I have TCS at 2...plenty of experimenting to be done.

I tried the tranny trick as well and holl01 was absoultely right...my times were consistently 3 seconds slower a lap because I spent too much time changing gears. I don't think the default gears are perfect but the tranny trick only appeared to make things worse. This car is an absolute blast to drive though I have to say, having the back step out on certain corners and catching it is just awesome!!!
