im not Shig no, full force feedback, no power assist no steering assit.

the sim mode and the other 2 options in that menu doesnt apply to DFP, only DF.

Interesting to see what steering assist does do.

Well this seems to be a week where I'm doing stuff right so I'll give ya'll a rundown of what I'm doin (thanks to BTTW for the excellent map):

  • I usually hit the start/finish line doing 189km/h, I don't think I've ever hit 190? Coming down the straight you need to be as close to the grass on the right as you can get without touching it (sorta tricky with the DS2) and you brake at about the 70 metre mark straight with a slight veer towards the inside rumble strip, then you power through 130R (touching the grass with your inside tyres helps you turn in a little) never dropping below about 173km/h. I've done it at 180 before but you end up coming close to sliding off the other side.

  • The next corner again requires you to be right on the edge of the road as you brake, this time the left (obviously), your brake point looks a long way out but it needs to be, you brake from 75m in a straight line. All the way down to about 50km/h and as you get to that point you ease through the first corner very tight and as you're on the apex you can power hard over to the rumble strip on the left

  • Just after the rumble strip you should already be slightly heading towards the next right-hander but you need to touch the brakes briefly and maybe coast a little to point your nose back across the next right hander. Accelerating through this corner can often induce oversteer and/or put you in the grass so you need to be a little careful

  • As you're coming around the slight left bend you need to ensure you are as close to the left hand side as possible and driving exactly parallel to the grass. Just on or before the 50m marker you move in towards the right and brake a little then power through the right kink, you should cross over the rumble strip.

  • If you've taken the previous corner well you'll be on the edge of the left rumble strip all the way down this straight you should come off the rumble strip right at the end and as you do, brake in a straight line aiming just to the left of degner curve. When you hit approximately 60kmh you can power through this corner, you'll know you've hit it at the right speed if the car pushes all the way over to the exit rumble strip. This should give you a T1 of 41.0 - 41.4 fairly consistently

  • The hairpin needs to be set up for quite well, make sure you are well over to the right and pointing in towards the corner a little before you brake hard down to around 45km/h, you need to ensure you take this corner quite tight and power out of it strong, you should change into 3rd just before the end of the exit rumble strip.

  • From here you can power all the way back to the starting point where you will be coming in considerably hotter than before, your brake point is right at a tarmac path that leads off to the right, make sure you brake heading in towards the first corner or it's a beach holiday for you, just when you were on a hot lap!

That's pretty much it, I'd still like to find another 0.2 or 0.3 in my lap but we'll see if I do or not 👍

Ran some more in the blue / orange stripes and it beat my black / white car from last night pretty quick ;)

40.708 with a bit gained at the line 👍

Going back for more ... laters

Nice run-down MisterWeary 👍

Had my first session last night. This combo is fun, though I wish the car would get a bit more taily, how a 388 hp car cannot spin the wheels in 2nd gear is beyond me. The engine also seems to have a bit of a "vtec" cam shift, it's almost as if it comes on boost.

Anyhoo:

T1: 41.547

Got in a grove. Was about 3 car lengths ahead of this but threw it away. Argh...

T1 - 41.160

Without doubt, the most difficult corner for me is that left hairpin after T1, so much more time to be made there for me.

41.270

Nailed the hairpin, too, but lost waaay too much time on the last corner before the ending line (got waaaay too cautious), so I'll not be giving up on this. I have found my way through the fast left sweeper and I'm doing a lot better, but nailing a 'perfect' lap is proving ... difficult.

Addicitive little combo, though :)

Got a first session in with a 41.380 which is .4 quicker than a slightly earlier save of 41.397 I know where to find the speed to get 40.8 or lower, in fact I had found it but messed it up at the corner before T1. With another session or two I hope it happens.

Ok i'm done with this car for now my sector in my save seems pretty solid 40.436
not too sure about the end of the lap ... will go back at the weekend probably and find the .2 I think i'm missing 👍

after you get used to the car, its actually pretty fun...

just have to be cautious with the suspension...

road tires are not my best, neither stock cars, but i´m pretty happy with my first clean lap... i thought i would do a lot worst than this...

T1: 40´907

i made a lot of time in the degner... still working on the shortcut turn and in other parts... low 40 by the end of the week... but i´m pretty sure we will see a 39 soon.

Very interesting! How about if you turn off "steering assist" in the menu? I think I am running "simulation" setup which would allow me to burn off front tires in understeer (what I'm experiencing), though I can turn on steering assist while still using DFP. I wonder if that would help or hurt?

Conversely, I can't remember, can you turn off steering assist on DS2?

ALL DFP DRIVERS: ARE YOU USING STEERING ASSIST OR NOT? MINI-POLL!!!

-SHig

I didn't know that there was a steering assist. So whatever the default setting is, that's what I'm on. Now I have to check to see what I'm on and the difference between them.

had a quick session 41.032, improved .05 at the line.

Now just need to work on T1, to catch Ron :sly:

Missed out on last week, looked like fun. Saw road tires this week and thought oh no :scared: . But I'm really enjoying this car, lots of fun, just need to remember to brake a little earlier. Here's what I ran after the first hour:

T1 - 41.598 :yuck:

It's coming along though. Saw multiple 41.1xx's, but blew it braking for the hairpin and in Spoon, so ended up slower than what I put up with that split. Hit the second half of that lap really well. Haven't really run Suzuka split up, so still learning that turn-around where the track splits. Although that seems to be giving most people trouble. As soon as I get a good braking point for the turn-around, and get a little more consistent in the Denger curve, I'm sure I'll get into the 40's. Hitting 130R well though, and that turn usually is my downfall :) .

Finally got below where I wanted. Well the target Small_Fryz set me anyway, it's way past what I thought I'd get.

T1 - 40.952 (Had a 40.8)

My god this week is addictive, I'd like to get another .1 - .3 off my time. But I can't win, because I don't have a MaxDrive, so second will do me.

It's getting tough now, new split for me:

T1: 0'40.937

Might give it a rest for a while now

Wow it has been a very long time since I have been on here! I think it has been 14 weeks, and I don't have a good excuse (<- hides in shame under pile of dirty clothes).Oh well sorry it has been so long, but I am glad to be racing again.
Well last night I started this little combo and I thought it was awsome!! Good pick CFM!
Any way here is my time
T1 0'41.014
Good happy pedal mashing everyone!

Improved .15 at the line.

T1 - 40.872

Another .1 - .2 and I'll be happy.

Can we do races with only one T-Time every week! It's so much easier to remember... 👍

Damn you Casio :) I'm coming for ya though...keep an eye in your rear view mirror buddy :sly:

Yeah, don't you worry about that. I have to make sure you're still in the path of my dust! :sly:

on a rare turn for the fortunate, i woke up early and was able to actually play during the week for a change. :)
good thing too, because i had no idea there was a sazuka "west" let alone ever drove it... amazing, without the rhythem section, the track feels completely different.

And from reading through here at work i was expecting the car to be horrible... but i have no idea what you fellas were on about with having grip problems or the car being too soft; etc... i was pleasently surprised.

so, to rekindle some of the giddy love for big V8's the 12yr old boy in all of us has... i've included some photos.

oh, and the best split i could muster for now was 41.8

Well just to keep you on your toes, I'll let you know that I saw a 40.6xx once but I couldn't hold it together...but I've seen my share of 40.8's. I had a hot lap with one of them that was dirty by less than a centimetre...it's only a mater of time my friend :sly:

I'd like to thank Small_Fryz, into persuading me to have a shot at manual.

Within 3 laps I beat my time I has taken me 2 days to get.

T1 - 40.684

However, I did stuff up the hairpin after T1, as such, I only beat my final by about .05.

@MisterWeary: You'll get me in the end I know, it always happens to me. I better not pick on you to much, we might be JGTC teammates!

I knew you'd come over to the dark side eventually, you're gonna be damn fast now...sigh!!! Nice split by the way, don't know if I can catch ya...but you can bet I'll try :sly: If we're JGTC teammates that'd be cool. We've gotta get you a maxdrive though

My Maxdrive software decided to kill my memory card ... bye bye 90 % GTA S.A. save ... bye bye all game saves ... card shows as "no data" in PS2 boot-up Browser ... nice ... that Maxdrive software is the crappiest piece of software I have EVER seen ... sorry for going off-topic, but I will only race in like 2 weeks maybe.

Enjoy guys and girls !

Well that is encouraging. Did you send it back and ask for a new one? Maybe you just got a dodgy CD. Or doesn't work with unofficial memory cards, or something, I don't know.

I think I will try to get one when play-asia has them in stock (Which is pretty never), all I need to do is round up a credit card. The ones on eBay Australia are ridiculously over priced.

But killing my memory card doesn't sound good, I was starting to think about getting one because I've only got 300kb left on my 4th memory card. I really don't want to buy another memory card, I can't keep track of what's on what at the moment!
