Yeah, the AI is definitely killing the fun factor of this race by quite a large margin. To think that this would have been absolute perfection as a single hotlap :indiff: :ouch:

I just hope we get to use the MR-S again, some other time, without AS (Artificial Stupidity) :D

I have been racing for the past 4 hours, and I have seen plenty of 24.2-24.4's @ T1, 1'02.3-1'02.6's @ T2, for the first lap, and 18.4's @ T1 and 56.6's @ T2, for the second one. Getting them in consecutive laps is a whole different chapter. And getting them in consecutive clean laps with no AI contact is a whole different book.

Why can't there be an option to turn these monkeys off?

The Wizard.

Can someone give me a detailed description on how to do Start - T1 on the first lap??? I am having serious issues here, the best I've ever seen (and this was using the cars as bumpers to get around the corners) was a 24.6 and some of you guys are getting 23.8 - 24.3 cleanly  I am doing something MASSIVELY wrong! The rest of the track seems to be okay for me, but the start is destroying me. I'll keep trying to get the lineup that MinorShunt suggests but I haven't got the exact same one yet??? I'm not gonna settle for anything less than 24.7 for T1 any more, I'm just giving too much away otherwise, I can't make up 0.3 - 0.5 on you superhuman Div 1'ers, not too mention all the D2 and D3 guys just flying on by....this is gonna be an interesting week for results....I could well be dead last overall :scared:

[EDIT]
I've been trying for ages, this is what MS suggested:

Using the Apex MR-S, w/250 gearing.
AI set to +3 on *****hards. 6 point race.

AI lineup-
Amemiya RX-7
Cusco Subie
Arta
Wedssport celica
Peugot 205 turbo

I have never had the ARTA in position 3 apart from when I put the AI on hards, but when I race them there is no way I can get through the way he suggested so I assume he meant Super hards. I know I'm not a super-human driver but I HAVE to be able to get a 24 at T1 if everyone else can?!?

[EDIT]

ok from start to T1 i am racing the following cars from 5th to 1st

- Peugeot 205 T16 Rally Car '85
- Toyota Weddsport Celica JGTC '03
- Toyota Altezza Touring Car '01
- Cusco Subaru Advan Impreza '03
- Amiya Asparadrink RX-7 JGTC '04

all the cars i am racing against have RS tyres and so do i...

i also have the AI setting on 3

start to T1

- coming up to the first, long sweeping left hander, i am behind the Peugeot, and coming up to the braking point for the first right hander, i dive up the left hand side of him, and go around the outside of him on the corner,
- feathering the throttle for a whisker of a second to get my line i then drive around the outside (left hand side) of the Weddsport Celica just after the first right hander is finished,
- i draft the Altezza for a second or two, and dive straight up the inside (again up the left) of him, just before the left-right chicane that joins into T1,
- as i enter the chicane i lift slightly, to tuck the nose in and get on line, as i pass the Subaru through the chicane (right hand side this time), hitting the apex at the top of the hill, on full throttle

that takes me to T1...

- immediately after the right hander after T1 i take the Amiya RX-7 up the inside (right hand side) and now i am in front, and that is my break down of how i get from the start to T1, it isn't as quick as Dan but it is good for a consistent 24.4 through there...

:scared: Just realised all this time i've been using RSS (R5) tyres instead of RS (R4). So my splits aren't valid. :dunce: Oh well, i'm glad i realised sooner rather than later. Sorry people.

*Edit* OK, back down to earth now with these much more modest splits. 👍

L1
T1 - 0'23.880
T2 - 1'01.821

L2
T1 - 0'18.510
T2 - 0'56.285

Thanks for the write-up shockwave, I'll try your settings soon. I got the line up MS suggested (and I think he does mean Racing Hard tyres for the AI )but overtaking the first two cars is like threading a needle, I have to restart about 10 times to get one good line through just that section alone!!! I can't do that all week, I'll go insane, I dunno how you worry about the Cusco MinorShunt when getting through the first two is so damn difficult?!?!?!? Anyway I finally got some better splits, unfortunately I dumped 0.3 at the end of the first lap and 0.3 at the end of the second lap, gonna be REALLY hard to find it again too :indiff:

T1: 0'24.637
T2: 1'02.461

T1: 0'18.274
T2: 0'56.049

I can fly around this track pretty equal with most folk but the AI is giving me some serious grief this week, that first corner is gonna make me lose it if I don't find a better method through it........

Their is hope for us yet it seems :sly:

Tough to keep up with you div one'rs even with a better car. Had a nice flyer in my last session, but unfortunatley it was dirty (one god damn turn).

But for now my new splits are as follows-

Wedssport Celica.

L1
T1- 24.262
T2- 102.321

L2
T1- 18.539
T2- 56.097

Had a quick run, so hard to get a clean first lap getting past the AI cars...

Il post up some splits when i get a clean run.

MisterWeary
Just checked the original thread before I posted this but it definitely says that we MUST use Racing Soft tyres, so no Super Softs.

Yeah, I just realized that this morning. lol But thanks for pointing it out. I thought I was doing so good, too. Maybe I should've noticed something was wrong.

I'll be busy tonight I guess. I have the technique at least (for a d3 setup) and I think I can repeat it with slightly tougher tires. It IS possible for a d3-er to pass the field on the final uphill right before t1. Difficult even with RSSs, but I'm positive I can do it with RSs, too.

Good luck all.

I suppose i was flying ... just not in a legal manner

Definately mate 👍

Got some better splits again:

T1 - 0'23.726
T2 - 1'01.179

L2
T1 - 0'18.239
T2 - 0'55.830

Phew! I just took another look at the leaderboard, and I was like, he's GOTTA be on RSS tires, lol. Good to hear... :) I don't know how much more time I'll get to play, I've got quite a BUSY weekend coming up. But I'd love to get a chance to knock my first lap's time down with some different AI setting... I'll try to make sure I have some time to try out what you guys are talking about. Thanks!

Well, this is an interesting and frustrating combo, init?

My first laps are fine, if not brill (for me at least)

24.065
1'02.266

Second laps are seriously in need of work.

18.623:indiff:
56.341:grumpy:

Running the Cusco Subaru Advan blah blah blah
250 top speed, AI set to +2 & R3's

Passing the Asparadrink and the superautobacs before and into the first chicane (both on the left)
Passing the Subaru '03 rallycar in the mini straight, and the Razo into the 2nd chicane (again both on the left)
Passing the Lancer Evo at T1 (on the right)

happy with that line-up and methodology for passing them, just not too chuffed about the second lap.

Neil

My fastest laps so far were running +2 difficulty, on RS tires, with the AI on RSH tires, Lineup was
1. Mitsu CZ3 tarmac rally car
2. Mazda 6 touring car
3. Mitsu Evo 8 rally car
4. Nissan silvia gt300
5. Impreza rally car

using the MR-S with 270 gearing, I was able to squeak through the inside of the Impreza in the first left hander, then dive inside the Silvia for the right over the crest. Then I was carrying enough speed to get past both the evo and the Mazda6 before the uphill esses, at the exit of the esses Im going roughly 20-30 mph faster than the CZ-3 so I can easily beat it under braking for the right at the bottom of the hill. It seems like a pretty good lineup since I can get around them all by the bottom of the hill, but I have to slow alot more than I would like to to get around the Silvia, does anybody else have other methods?

Ooooooh, oooooooooh! I want that T1! That'd knock a LOT off of my first lap. Thanks for posting Neil, I'll see what I can do with that, maybe tonight, maybe saturday night, maybe sunday night. Dunno when I'll get to play next!

never-mind!
Had posted that, maybe bbq was missing a JGTC car in his lineup......

Got confused (easy at my age! just thought I would say it first, :) )

Didn't twig that the Nissan silvia GT300 was the RAZO.:dunce:

Actually I did have the AI on R1's. Sorry, but it seems that sometimes I'm not allowed to post the "S" word. The bad word filters ***** it out. I musta been a bad, bad boy. :P

Please rest easy all. This post has been fully planetized for your safe reading enjoyment. 👍

OK, for those D2/D3er's out there.

I have just ran a few laps in time trail, in both the Subaru and the ASL...

And guess what?

The ASL does seem to be faster, for me at least!
It brakes just as well as the Subaru, accelerates as fast, and handles as nice (if not better, especially out of corners)
It seems to be less 'understeery' both on the brakes and the throttle, and is really quick round and out of the hairpin and turns 10 & 11 (the double rights at the end of the back straight)
The only downside I have found is that it hits the rev limiter a little early for my taste (not even getting to the red zone)

I am .5 of a second quicker over a full lap in it! And that's in only 5 laps of trying.

I will probably run in both for the next couple of days, and see what happens.

Neil

OK, here is my first improvement worth mentioning:

Been shaving off a tenth or two here and there, but this is a 3 second improvement on my overall 2-lap total time so far. Here are the splits:

Lap 1:
T1: 24.363
T2: 1:02.182

Lap 2:
T1: 19.269
T2: 57.466

Now using the Toyota WedsSport Celica (JGTC) '03

Quite happy with lap 1, not with lap 2 though.

There's still alot of work to be done there. It just seems I can't string 6 good sectors together back to back. Watching my replay, I know there are at least 2 seconds I threw away.

I actually had a L1T1 of 23.3XX, and took the lead before the T1 line, only to hit the wall after the hairpin (T2 was quite 🤬, so wouldn't have helped anyway). If I do that again, I'm gonna save the replay anyway.

Can anyone give me a tip here? The very slight right-hander before the hairpin. I can never seem to get the car down to the right speed.:grumpy: If I take it at 200km/h it works perfectly. But as soon as I brake, it's down to 175-180.:irked: And if I want to lift off the throttle, I have to do it so early I'm sure I'm losing time.:odd: Anyone know how to brake to the exact speed needed to floor it through a turn like that?:boggled:

Just lifting for a scant second, and trying to stay to the left as long as poss before flooring it and hitting a slightly later apex, should get you through without losing too much time!

Mind you, if you get the apex perfect, the celica 'should' get you round it at full throttle!
It's a grippy bugger!

I've been doing what holl01 suggested and that is dipping your left tyres into the sand just before the corner to help wash off a bit of speed then dive through at about 210km/h, it's tough to get right but works well if you get it 👍

Yeah, I'll try yours & MisterWeary's tips. Thing is I'm doing about 245-250 km/h there, redlining in 6th. There's no way the car will stay on the road. (Like MisterWeary said) 210 is pretty much ideal, and the fastest I've pulled it through at.

It's just so annoying when it goes almost perfectly, then at the end of the second lap, you take that turn at 215 km/h and your right rear wheal slides off the left-side rumble strip and you go into a spin. And you know it's gonna happen from the split second you turn in!!!!!

Anyway, enough ranting and raving. Thanks for the tips.

PS: Where is the thread that gived details about how points are awarded in this WRS?? Found it a few days ago, but can't seem to find it anymore. Cheers!

I might just try that tip for that turn too. I also have the same problem.

I hate how I have the ocassional great split and then then the rest lets me down. So frustrating that it dosen't come together for the whole race.

Also feel I could get a 23.xxx on t1 but the front runner always gets right in the way, so either I bump or I slow down. This is with the ai on RSH and 1 but I have tried higher settings, but then others seem to get in the way then.

I just wish once the leader would run off on that corner before t1 and give a me a clean chance. But it will never happen.:grumpy:

Also had a run in the Cusco Subaru just to see what I could do, was pretty bad. About 3-4 seconds of my Celica times. Shocking.

It's tough, having one in the "bank" so to speak.
Ran a time that I've not been able to duplicate. I've watched the video over and over..... Now I'm re-learning sec 1, starting to pass the last car before the uphill chicane... now if I can only get the 2nd sec right :( ... still a sec behind my best :(... time for some fun :) .. time to drive the mini cooper :) got a race coming this Sunday ! Whoo Hoo !

First splits:

24.773
1'02.250

18.979
56.517

In the Toyota Weddsport Celica, hopefully another second to come off :)

Alrighty then.......just had a LOOOOOOOOONG session and I've got a lot of the track sorted now, I've still left about 0.4 - 0.6 on the track if I were to nail every sector the best I've done in each but I'm pretty happy with this so far, knocked another 0.5 off my race:

T1: 0'24.657 (Can do this pretty easy now)
T2: 1'02.130 (Pretty much my limit)

T1: 0'18.682 (0.4 right here :yuck: )
T2: 0'56.188 (If only I got T1 right....boooo!!!)

And I knocked 0.5 off my overall lap. I'd love to find that other 0.6 or so but I have SOOOOOOOO much work to do on the weekend I thought I'd put one good session in now.

Oh....and Small_Fryz and fasj, sorry I missed you on MSN, I had my headphones plugged in while GT'ing and didn't hear the MSN noises, I'm such a noob :)

Catch ya all around 👍

Updated splits again for me. I'm not sure they're better than my previous ones but these yield a much faster race time. I managed a much stronger finish with these laps.

L1
T1 - 0'23.708
T2 - 1'01.565

L2
T1 - 0'18.368
T2 - 0'55.581

Just had my first run at this. It's just ****ing stupid racing with the AI, unless it's on track with a long S/F straight to pass on, or a standing start where you can just blow them away (Like the week at HSR) it's just stupid.

I get pass them all cleanly at T1, and think 'That wasn't bad' Then BAM, they tail-end me, and there is nothing I can do. And to top it off I'm penalised for it.

The skill shouldn't be in who can get the best AI line-up, or who by pure luck doesn't get hit. It should be who can get around the track the fastest, which when the AI is involved is pure luck sometimes. For example in my line-up, sometimes the 205 would run wide the first corner and I could overtake him easily, other times he'd stay on, I'd try to go around the outside, and he'd push me onto the grass. What am I supposed to do?!

I'm really annoyed because I think Infinion is a fantastic track and one personally I think I'm quite good at. But this race just isn't fun, it's just giving me the ****s.

On a more positive note, I got some second lap spilts of 18.x and 56.x, which isn't to bad. This week will be a bad start to D1 for me.
