Oblivion!! Love it!! :)

On topic -- I just don't see how y'all are getting the 1'06 (and FASTER) that you're getting on T2... Best I've seen is 1'09.074, and I screwed up that lap shortly thereafter... Arrgh...

what are you doing in T1? 36.5-range was netting me 1'04.1-1'04.6 (depending on how well I went through aremburg)
the fastest way i've found through sector 2 is after the jump, *TAP* the brake (leave the throttle full on); and i say tap, because you only want to touch the brake enough to stablize the car. roar through flugplatz full open, (using 360 gear, should be ready to shift into 6th after the turn is done) blast up near 200mph, *tap* the brake and take the kurve at ~190mph (trust the aero kit). mash the brake after the red graffiti spot and dump down to 3rd... brake deep into aremburg, accelerate out.
i'm still dumping a second somewhere in there... probably just slop in T1... think i need to get down into the 35s range @ T1 to hit 1'03.

T1 is usually about 38 for me... If I could get 36.5 there, then I'm sure I could hit the 1'06.xxx mark... I'm taking sector 2 pretty much as you described it -- but probably just a tiny bit too hard on the brakes. I'm sure a little more speed is possible through there, but it's not within my "comfort zone" yet. And the first sector feels maxxed out to me... Don't see me getting 36.5 there, but I'll keep working on it...

Did a little more racing since my last post, and am definitely getting better. Here are my splits for the leaderboard... Not much to look at, but hey, they're totally clean!

T2: 1'07.975
T6: 3'13.752
T9: 4'55.498

(EDIT: The above numbers are with 350 gears...)

Well my best T1 was 37.0xx and my best T2 has been 1'04.8xx, this car turns in harder than you first realise, I'd say you just need to be more agro with it Laurence :sly:

Yeah, there have been a couple of times when it made turns that shocked the h*ll out of me -- just figured I got lucky. :dopey: But when I get too aggressive, I tend to over-steer the car, and wind up in the weeds on the inside of the turn. Need to work on smoothing that out a bit...

But this car DEFINITELY turns better than the stock 'Vette we had on the other 'Ring! No doubt about that!

Unpacked my PS2 last night and put in a couple of hours on this cruel mutha of a track :scared:

1'05.323
3'04.321
4'41.762 (did see a 4'39.xxx but couldn't hold it till the end - familiar story)

Started making some significant improvements at the end of my session so I should be able to find a bit more on those splits soon.

I can only repeat what (I think) KLR said - if you make a mistake, don't instantly restart, keep driving on and complete the lap. The first sector is quite tricky and if you're on the limit it's easy to run wide or spin out - I realised after an hour that I'd driven the first two sectors about 30 times and the rest of the track only once or twice. :dunce:

Excellent combo anyway. 👍

I was doing the exact same thing. Just restarting every time I went off track and like you, only seeing the back half of the course a few times.
But with the advice earlier, I just keep on going so I can get familiar with the back nine, and the time is starting to come off.

T2: 1.06.049
T6: 3.06.795
T9: 4.44.671

That's it for tonight, time to hit the hay. Laters.

the fastest way i've found through sector 2 is after the jump, *TAP* the brake (leave the throttle full on)

Thanks for the tip - I'll give that a try later. 👍
I've never had the nerve to go over the crest at full throttle though - I usually get hopelessly out of shape when I land or miss the turn-in point and run wide.
I always tap the brake just before take-off (supposedly to lower the nose of the car and make the jump less dramatic), then lift for a moment before powering out through the right hander. But I've only once got a sub 1'05 T2 with that method after many attempts, so I'll see if your method works for me and more importantly if I can actually pull it off! :scared:

The one that always catches me out is the fast left before the karussell (is it klostertal?). I either take off too much speed or I come in too hot, miss the apex and go onto the grass. :ouch:

[edited sig - thanks for spotting that, celeron!]

Unfortunatly these may be my final times. I just cant get a clean lap in that comes close. Everytime I start this race I gradually get into a bad mood. I might just be burnt out on this combo.
1'06.078
3'08.129
4'44.859
These times are a few days old and I was using 370 gearing. This morning I used 360 and had 2 seconds off by t3. Unfortunatly I kept messing up. Maybe I will go for another try...

Well, I changed my mind. I hate this combo. Saw a 4'41.xxx T9 around the beginning of the session, but never really completed any laps always trying to improve my T1 and T2. Got completely fed up with this car. I can see a mid to low 4'30, but I'm not wasting any more time trying to get close to it. I'm out.

I with you on that one, T13R. :indiff:

I just don't have the patience for perfecting the Ring. I love driving it, but not with the pressure of a competition. I just get irritated and don't even want to see it anymore. Here's hoping the next race is a little shorter. :)

I find it to not be nearly as bad with something that's a bit slower and more stock... Losing weight makes the cars harder to handle on the ring, being a race car makes it so the car has suspension that's too stiff for the ring in stock settings, and increasing the power makes it all the harder to handle with the stock suspension settings...

This one's definitely tough, so I don't blame some of you for giving up "early". I hope to get some more time in so I can do better than my first day's attempt. I PLAN on getting some more time in.

i find it exactly the opposite.
Short tracks piss me off, because *progress* is measured in .001; where on a massive monster with no repeat corners, you can watch seconds melt away. Much bigger sense of accomplishment.
By the same idea, the gaps are also magnified, which makes the final results easier to swallow. If I get beat by 5 seconds, I know it wasn't luck. But if I get beat by < .010 on a short track, thats something that can be attributed to just a lucky bounce, stings a bit more.
finally, people can't do a billion laps hunting for the perfect one (or the lucky break). Which I like, because it makes the racing less sterile and a bit more realistic.

Nice to see both sides of the coin represented here. 👍 I haven't really put too much time into this weeks race as I found myself just not enjoying it as a whole. I hate the damned torque in 3rd is about 90% of the reason why I stopped after about 30min :indiff:

I'm giving a couple more hours tonight then thats it for me this week. I'm getting my butt kicked in the TT WRS too, I think I've more chance of a half sensible result there though.

Bottom of Div 2 here I come. :dopey:

I'm kind of split on this issue... I love the 'Ring for its incredible challenge, but I really hate being 5 minutes into a great run and then screwing up and having to start all over -- a shorter track is much easier to start over. I still like the 'Ring, though, even when it frustrates the h*ll out of me.

But overall, I enjoy the variety of combos that we have here in the WRS -- it's NOT the same thing every week, which is what makes it fun for me. So I may or may not like a specific combo, but the overall WRS experience is a lot of fun!

That's exactly my point. I can easily kill an hour racing the 'Ring, but when it's for a competition, it just grates on me. I don't think I have the skill nor the patience to consistently pull off any sort of "good" 'Ring time.

Agreed about the variety, though. Being that this is the first WRS I'm eligible to submit to, who knows? I may end up longing for a long course after 3 months of short courses. :)

question:

are you racing for a time, or racing because you love driving?

I'm only racing this week because I race every week. I hate this stupid track.

I'd much prefer to be knocking 0.001 off my time on Super Speedway then throwing this overpowered, too stiff car into a wall 5 minutes into the lap.

Sorry I have not been here, my ISP would not let me get online.
I did take about .4's off my total time with a T9 time of 4:45:xxx.
It's clean, but i can not go any faster so I will send in my time soon.
And it was Oblivion, but now it's ChromeHounds that I have been sucked into:).

I think I'm around 4:38-39, high or low, perspectivley.
Not clean yet, but close.... I just wish it had stock power, then it'd be perfect

I went and got my time.

T2-1:05:702
T6-3:07:005
T9-4:45:336

As I said before it's clean but I can not go any fast without going off.
