GT5 delayed

Many people buy games just for their SP. Don't be surprized if GT5's online number's don't live up to your expectations. Also, personally, I'm getting the game for the SP, hoping that online is also really really good.

I play for the SP, most the games i've played on on PSN have been crap anyways. I want good online play i go with a PC.

haven't read much of this thread, but most of the opinions on other sites are quite pathetic.
at the end of the day, it just a freaking game.
crap, i knew they were probably going to delay it again. and you know what, i'm ok with it (i have midterms and other assignments during the time it was supposed to be released)
don't you trolls have other more important things than to blast a developer over a product you had no hand in???
hell. even if they push it back futher, i wouldn't mind.
why??? there are plenty of other games i can play to spend my time.

tldr; it just a game, don't get your panties all in a knot.

and really. do you think the casual audience really even cares about the delay.
hell, they have a buttload of shooters to play before they buy this game and inevitably put it down.

Are you sure about that or just think and feel that way? Do you have any evidence that the firmware function is actually fundamentally a part of the game?

From what I understand the firmware requirement just changes the key with which the game is encrypted meaning older firmwares won't be able to unencrypt and thus read the new code. Circumventing this would only involve stripping the firmware version check (or tricking it) and then getting the key (not necessarily any easy feat) to the new encryption and using it in the current hack.

Example: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-moh-blocks-psjailbreak-blog-entry

Good reading, they used a simpler method than what I thought of, it boils down to the same principle; adding code to prevent older hardware from interperting newer code, it's less secure but I must admit my idea is overkill.

If that's the case, it's still a jailbreak protection.

That's true.

Actually it's less about the game and the delay itself than racing to 1000 replies within 24 hours, can you blame us for wanting to race something?

I've been playing GT PSP for a while now, and I've actually found it pretty fun to try and get all the golds in the driving challenges! I've always been a fan of single player, but you just can't have a game without it anymore. The industry has evolved into a social network, and left behind its roots of single player and split screen multiplayer. Personally, I'm not too fond of it, but I'm getting off-topic.

This game will have a career mode and a multiplayer mode (online AND split screen). It will surely satisfy everyone's tastes!

Some have even resorted to writing letters...

On a serious note, I don't even care anymore. They'll release the game whenever, and I'll buy it whenever.

I made a $25 bet that GT5 would release on Nov. 2nd. Needless to say I lost $25.

True, I have only myself to blame, but why did I fall for it? Was it wishful thinking?

:dunce:

Really? I must be naive. Racing AI and having no online leader board would render racing games almost useless in my opinion. $60 is not much, especially when used copies will be on shelves for a fraction that price shortly after release (whenever that may be!).

I will say that the jailbreak idea seems most legitimate to me though. Meaning there really is no good excuse.

I dunno... I very much like the online challenge but even I like the single player in GT more than the online... I mean obviously in 1-4, then GT5P (even accounting for the slightly broken online) I wasn't really thrilled. I played through Forza 1 and 2 mostly for the single player.... there's something fun about playing through a meaty single player racing career.

All of my friends who play driving games spend far more time offline than one... Dirt, NFS series.... pretty much anything. You have to remember around this forum, we are kind of the elite... most people can barely beat the AI on normal in racing games, getting online for a large part of the gaming audience just means getting beaten down hard by the likes of GTP.

While online leaderboards and tournaments might be great fun for us, for most of the people I know, online leaderboards means only that stack of numbers you won't ever be anywhere near the top of and tournaments are just things you will sign up for and get frustrated with when you fly off a hairpin and your whole tourney is shot.

It's not really something that can be quantified but I really think we around here forget that while almost all of GTP is drooling for it, a large part of the audience probably won't be nearly as interested...

That doesn't even address the large number of people who just don't have broadband... you have to believe they have almost no reason to upgade firmwares and Sony wants to address that if at all possible.

Here's an honest question to anyone with programming knowledge: what significant changes could be made to a game with the size and scope of GT5 in just a month? I'm just trying to understand why this delay would be necessary...

Awesome Marketing Effort! I thought the game should be near-finished production by now, packaging and all.
I was looking forward to this..

With what we know about GT and PD I don't think anyone can speak to that with much certainty.

My best educated guess is not much... a serious bug could be ironed out, a few features could be polished... not much really game changing though. I doubt they are gonna get 800 standard cars up to premium in a month or rewrite the whole damage engine or anything impressive and noteable.

Let's put it this way, we are 6 years in... 1 month more isn't much in that scale of things. Then factor in that this late in the game you are probably worried about breaking something more than fixing something. With the game so fully tested and complex anything you risk changing now could have unforseen but significant or even catostrophic consequences down the road. Maybe even uncaught for weeks or mmonths after release.

This honestly makes me want to cancel Pre-order.
I am simply sick of all this.
Might Pre-order Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood instead.

There are just too many good games coming out at the same time.Atleast with the nov 2 release, GT5 would have been the first major release of the holiday season, but now it will be on the back end or right in the thick of things.

Yet more reason to make me think this is realted to jailbreak protection somehow... apparently it's being reported MOH is already playable on jailbreak 3.41 consoles. By using something called Heremes Payload V3 I have seen it mentioned many places now you can play MOH on a jailbreak 3.41 PS3.

This is only became possible a few days ago... timing fits well...

Sony releases MOH to test their jailbreak combating firmware requirement.

MOH gets defeated.

Sony immediately reacts by putting the clamp down on GT5 release until they can impliment something better to defeat jailbreak.

Still entirely a theory...

So, anyone actually considering not buying GT5 because of this delay? Not me. It's perhaps because they would like GT5 to sell a bit more by moving it closer to holidays, so expect it to hit shelves around December. 2011 is ridiculous.

maybe make online stable i remember in gt5p online was very laggy and not fun at all could not even played it

I don't understand why people always complain about lag. They can't fix your internet connection. Lag is caused by one or many persons in a game's internet to be "lagging"- slower than the others. We should never blame game developers or the game itself for lag, it's not like there is much they can do. One of the many retarded complaints about the big sellers like MW2.

If Sony are worried about Black Ops, then they just failed.

I was going to buy GT5 since it releases first, but now its likely that Black Ops will release before GT5. So, I'll buy Black Ops and then of course GT5 when it comes out. If GT5 released on Nov 2 I would have only bought GT5, not Black Ops.

In my case Sony has just boosted Black Ops sales, but thats just me and some people may view this delay differently.
