GT5 delayed

Just an FYI there have been two firmware updates since the jailbreak came out. Both of them break the jailbreak. The problem is you can just opt not to get those updates and not connect your PS3 to PSN thus keeping yoru jailbreak intact.

Currently MOH has come out with a requirement to be 3.42 or higher (these are the non jailbreak firmwares) however as with PSP it's looking possible to strip that requirement out of the game. If successful it won't have the effect desired of forcing people to upgrade to a newer firmware.

It's entirely possible Sony are waiting to see what happens with MOH, whether the forced updaete can be removed, or even perhaps they are working on an unremovable forced firmware update more securely embedeed than MOH. Maybe they are working on a trick like Coemasters did with TOCA 3 on the original Xbox.

Or maybe nothing to do with jailbreak protection... anythings possible.

My peronal speculation is jailbreak protection though.

*sigh*....If that is the case. I think Polyphony should be passing the blame to Sony instead of themselves.

Well it's not the end of the world, but it just screwed up my lauch day plans.... :grumpy:

Honestly, there might be some huge unrevealed feature to justify another delay, otherwise, I would give them a big 👎.

Well, browsing around the GT website they have listed "Holiday 2010" so for sure this year!! That's good enough for me.

Bummer. I was planning a few days off for this.

Hopefully, we are not seeing the start of 'Duke Nukem' of racing sims here. :grumpy:

But that means no online racing, so that is a very weak arguement because most people want to race online. The "standard" has been set already in this regard.

I don't get why there are so many complainers about a delay.

I mean, weren't we fine back like 13 years ago when release dates weren't as wide spread? And when many stores didn't even offer pre-orders? When we just waited for good games to creep up on us like Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid did back in 1997 & 1998 respectively?

If there were any delays, many people didn't know about it - and it didn't matter. They most likely didn't even know certain games were in development unless they read EGM or GamePro.

Then the internet trolled along shortly after...

I cant believe i didnt see this coming, This must have been why they announced "Turismo Tuesdays". 2 weeks to go wouldn't have made sense...

Don't go by retailer sites. That Jan 1st date could just be a tentative date to fill the slot. Wait for something official. Common sense.

Without a jailbreak console you can't read 3.42+ firmwares, so forget about a custom firmware since you can't jailbreak 3.42, that's one thing. Now I doubt Sony made the same mistake they did with the PSP, the 3.42 requirement isn't just a number, Sony must have extended the instruction list and change how software adress hardware (communicate) in 3.42, 3.42 PS3s understand a 3.41 game, but a 3.41 PS3 cannot understand 3.42 games, so, even if you fool the game into believeing 3.42 is installed, without the firmware the game is impossible to run. Now if that is the case, a part of GT5 needs to be rewritten to accomodate 3.42, with all the testing that ensues.

Yeah, my preorder for the game on Gamestop Canada now says that it ships 11/16/2010... hopefully it ISN'T a tentative date, because 2 extra weeks isn't much of a wait.

I think you understimate the desire to not pay $60, overestimate the level of interest of a lot of GT buyers and also overestimate the number who can/want to play online. Basically if you told a pirate you can have GT5 online for $60 or offline only for free, many of them won't be swayed.

If you want to talk about most people, most gamers I know don't like GT. I am one of two in my circle of friends who do... everyone else is taken in by the eye candy and excited by the hype, but infalibly once they play a few laps they are done with it... thats even without going on line and getting handled by people way better (or way worse) than the AI.

With most games having a strong online component, the still large jailbroken userbase says quite a bit about the desire to pirate vs the desire to play online. Factor in that homebrew is getting inetresting on PS3 and you have an even harder sell...

It's all personal opinion, but I think jailbreaking is a big thorn in Sony's side and plenty of sales of GT5 would be lost to jailbreaking if they pirates could do it.

As most people have said problems usually can get patched so if that's the case the problem must be something that can't get patched later on. My uninformed theory is that there may have been something fundamentally wrong with the code build that made it fail the Sony certification process and they had to rebuild and the resulting testing process is going to take several weeks to redo. Whatever the reason is it is just one more symptom that points back to a root cause of insufficient project management. I bet Kaz will quit midway through GT6 development in frustration if he makes it that far due to the army of beancounters with short leashes that will be overseeing that effort as a result of all of this.

One item of good news is that I was thinking a couple of days ago that it was unfortunate that F1 2010 wasn't out a month or so earlier because I may not make it through my second career year by the time GT5 arrived on November 2nd. Guess that problem is now fixed!

After GT5, I think I'll consider taking my sim racing somewhere else. I honestly thought going the PS3 route was an okay idea. I'm sure GT5 will rock and can cream the competition, but if I'm not enjoying the system as much as I'd like, then the money I spent on the wheel and PS3 hasn't been worth it. Shame on me for honestly thinking GT5 was releasing on the PS3 a year ago, which was why I bought the system. :yuck: Lesson, learned though. My concern is that if I waited this long, then it means my system's lifespan would be thoroughly decreased. I don't spend time playing games that much now, and was only looking forward to GT5. Thank god for F1 2006 and 2010. Even for Shift and the Dirt series.

Shame on PD for advertising GT5 on PS3 boxes from when the system started. I know it's no guarantee and that's why I did wait it out as long as there were no solid news of a release before buying a PS3. But Kaz stating they can release anytime they want just hooked me in. I'm sure this will not be the last GT I'll buy, unless the quality turns out lower than expected. I just need to rethink my buying strategies for consoles.

With that said... With this delay, there shouldn't be a single bug in this frickin game Kaz, or else I'll personally go to PD to whup your "perfectionist" behind. :yuck:

Are you sure about that or just think and feel that way? Do you have any evidence that the firmware function is actually fundamentally a part of the game?

From what I understand the firmware requirement just changes the key with which the game is encrypted meaning older firmwares won't be able to unencrypt and thus read the new code. Circumventing this would only involve stripping the firmware version check (or tricking it) and then getting the key (not necessarily any easy feat) to the new encryption and using it in the current hack.

Example: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-moh-blocks-psjailbreak-blog-entry

Usualy firmware point releases contain only added functionality (like 3D movie ability) and do not change how the firmware works fundamentally in any large ways.

Now if that is the case, a part of GT5 needs to be rewritten to accomodate 3.42, with all the testing that ensues.

If that's the case, it's still a jailbreak protection.

I don't care about the delays. In fact, I'm glad they happened. There was no way I was getting the game by November 2nd, and that fits right in my plans to actually be among the crowd of GT5 players when it hits the market. And a thought for all of the people in here:

The Gran Turismo 5 E3 Trailer says "Coming November 2010."

Thanksgiving is part of the start of holiday season, as said by SCEA/SCEE/SCEJ. I could see it coming out in an area between November 25th-December 10th. That's all I can give.

Yes, but I remember when GT5 was revealed to come out in March 2010 for Japan, and they had similar stuff.

In the end, it's just a date that has been pushed back and possibly may be pushed even FURTHER back. We're all in the dark here until somebody can confirm what exactly is happening, but even if a date is given, we will still be in the dark regarding its ACTUAL release date. I'm buying the game no matter what, but I am NOT trusting their promises on release dates EVER again.

But if it makes the game better in the end, it's all worth it IMO

I am saddened from this but still cant wait for its release pre ordered the collectors edition as soon as I heard about it. Im certain this game will be absolutley spectacular. I am eager to see the final products of the damage and the course creator. Hopefully the car custimization will be cool too!!!

Really? I must be naive. Racing AI and having no online leader board would render racing games almost useless in my opinion. $60 is not much, especially when used copies will be on shelves for a fraction that price shortly after release (whenever that may be!).

I will say that the jailbreak idea seems most legitimate to me though. Meaning there really is no good excuse.

Good point... when they come out with a new date, I will not believe them. When I receive a tracking number from Amazon, I will know that the game has been released. Simple as that. Same goes for GT6.

There's three options.
Option A: Like the news said, the finanical crisis.
Option B: They're rewiring the standard cars/putting in customization/giving us a full track editor/something like that.
Option C: It's not done yet.

So which one would you all agree on?

Many people buy games just for their SP. Don't be surprized if GT5's online number's don't live up to your expectations. Also, personally, I'm getting the game for the SP, hoping that online is also really really good.
