GT5 delayed

Jailbroken PS3s cannot go online... thus they cannot get any patches.

The only way to prevent GT5 from falling prey to jailbroken consoles is to force it to require 3.42 or higher firmware.

Currently MOH requires 3.42 but I am sure people are working feverishly to strip out that requirement.

It seems quite possible Sony is holding back their prized product from release until they can be (more) sure that jailbroken PS3s will not be able to play it. If ever there was a product with which to try and force 3.42 on people, GT5 is it...

Can you give a brief explanation on why a jailbroken PS3 is a bad thing for sony?

Something tells me GT5 is delay because of Car Sounds. Only major complains for GT5 are the car sounds, so I bet Kaz wants to implement them better.

how did you do that lmao

btw this delay is probably just to build MORE hype and rile people up MORE. I guarantee they're done with the game already and just want to build some last-minute tension.

My guess is that it's marketing, they want GT5 to blow everything else out of the water. But, if they would have acted like professional businessmen, then they would have realized way back in freaking June when they initially announced the date that it wasn't a good idea.

Supposedly, it's coming out in 2010 (can we believe it this time?). I'm not gonna pretend I know what goes into developing a game like some people do here but, is a one month delay really gonna help anything development-wise? They should have already started making copies of the game by now.

I think Kaz actually let go of the game, but the big-wigs at Sony saw Christmas trees in the shape of dollar signs and delayed it.

Most hilarious thread I've ever read.

The ignorance of some (or should I say, a lot?) people...

GT5 won't be delayed very much further, Sony are not idiots, they want to get it out for Christmas. People suggesting this delay is for marketing purposes must be smoking some pretty heavy stuff.
I'm perfectly happy waiting, this game will be epic. Good ridance to those who claim they aren't going to buy the game now, clearly your patience wasn't the greatest. If this was some cheap PSN game that no one cared about, maybe waiting would be something worth complaining about, but considering this game is going to be good, the wait is always worth it. There just simply isn't going to be a game to compare to it.
I fully expect a release before Christmas.

I'm amused people who have apparently "waited 5 years" can't sit and wait a week or two. I very much doubt those who claim they are not going to buy the game are really going to commit to that.

The delay won't be for additional content, its too close to release for them to be altering the content of the game (or at least, adding to). I'm pretty sure the car sounds will be epic anyway ;).

If it is a week or 2, that isn't a big deal, but if it is like sometime in dec, than I'm very angry. I passed up on recent games because GT5 was just weeks away, now my plans are ruined. At this point, I rather get a 360 and Forza.

Early December would be a "few weeks", so December is highly likely to be the new release date.

Getting Forza is a mistake. You will see, I really don't understand why you guys can't wait just that little bit longer? Haven't you already seen enough to know this game is going to be amazing?

Idea for Kaz/PD if he/they happen to read this post:

Stay in Japan and finish the effin game! Quit traveling to different locations to either drive exotic cars or be present for some other auto related function. YOUR JOB AS OF TODAY IS A GAME PROGRAMMER!!!! After you release the game, sure, take some time off to test drive a new car and take it out for some laps around Laguna Seca.

I heard that there may have been bugs in the game. Guess what, this would not be the first time for a patch. Crap, every time I boot up my PS3, there is always some type of update/patch that needs to be downloaded. Also, did November 2, 2010 sneak up on you? Not me, I have been patiently waiting for the game and will continue to do so.

Kaz, take one final smoke break and get your act together. We will be patiently be waiting on your results. By the way, if you are trying to please yourself, then I understand. If you are trying to please the masses by making “tweaks” to the game, then you will be working on this for the rest of your life because you WILL NOT PLEASE EVERYONE WHO PLAYS THIS GAME!

As you were….

Every game ever has bugs. I don't know why you want to complain about patching, as that means they can still fix stuff after release, where they otherwise would have been a bit stuck (Gran Turismo 2).
As for the rest - you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes at PD (or even at Sony). Please don't assume laziness is to blame.

Kaz's job isn't as programmer by the way either. Its through his travelling to these auto shows that PD get their hands on various licences and special concept cars. Would you rather not have the Miura? Thought not.

There is no software issues. The games are probably in the pressing stage as we speak. Its far too close for that to be an issue.

Can you give a brief explanation on why a jailbroken PS3 is a bad thing for sony?

Really?

Well Jailbreaking a PS3 lets you copy games to the hard drive and play them without owning them.

Basically it's hacking the PS3 so you can download/copy games and not have to buy anymore... that's why it's bad for Sony.

As my user name suggests... I will only be disappointed I won't be making any Time Attacks come November 2nd. Although, I am very busy with school, so the release date does not phase me really. I've been a fan since of the series since I was 7, and I will continue to offer my support no matter how long a delay. As long as I can still post Time Trials when the game releases, I will be happy :)

"Patience is a virtue" :yuck:

I just hope Brian Eno doesn't delay his album also. I was so hyped on the idea of listening to his new album (which would have released the same day as GT5) while playing this game to death.

I'd rather they spent the time used on modelling all the old school VW's on bug fixes instead, then we might not have to deal with another wait.

I this k its BS. They have taken this long thus far and finally have a release date but then noo... 20 years wasn't enough dev time. Come the 🤬 on. Ill still buy it but its gettinf rediculous.

it will come out this holiday season... they CAN NOT delay again... PD or Sony CAN NOT delay the game again.

er, why? It's not like they haven't done it before, they're now more experienced at announcing delays than releasing games ;).

but if they delay the game again after this... thats the last strike... i rather wait for GT6 like someone else stated already... since they are working on GT6 already... which makes no sense... why start work on GT6 while GT5 is not complete??

People always say this, each time it's delayed.

The word gutted when I read this news is an understatement. However I do a theory why this might be the case.

Yesterday I posted a comment in the general discussion thread about a GT5 demo and how PSN plus hasn't been a huge success. I said in this thread that Sony have missed an opportunity because they should of released a GT5 demo for PSN plus members only. As the price of PSN plus (£39.99) is the same as retail games it would of been like selling GT5 twice!

So the delay MIGHT be due to Sony wanting to take full advantage of GT5 and use this to increase the number of subscribers to PSN plus. Im sure many would pay for this if it mean't playing the GT5 demo.

Wait... you're saying PD and Sony should be thanked for this delay in the form of money? If a PSN Plus-exclusive demo of GT5 were released, I'd make sure to not buy it simply on principle. I shouldn't be giving these people any more money for consistently failing to meet a deadline. They'll still be getting the pre-ordered CE money from me, since it's half paid and it'll still be the overall racing game I prefer on the system. But I can't blame people who are canceling their pre-orders. If I had another system or more widely-ranging video game tastes, I'd do the same thing.

I fully expect a release before Christmas.

Can I have your time machine when you're done with it, so that I too can know what the final product is like?

I don't think people canceling pre-orders are doing it out of patience. It's the fact PD can't be held to a deadline. Just now I was asked by someone in the chat room if buying it used would mean no money goes to PD. He wants the game, but he doesn't want them to get money from it. And I don't blame him. PD can't care too much about their customers; it'd be one thing if this was a rare occurrence, but it isn't. Hell, PD is the only racing game producer that has made a habit of selling glorified demos in the form of the Prologues, simply because they can't produce a game in a decent amount of time. Why not do something similar to show dissatisfaction with this situation? Buy it a few months later.

You fully expect a release before Christmas? Cool. So did a bunch of us... Christmas '09. Look how that turned out. I find it funny people are already posting new release dates from various sources... as if they matter any more than the Nov 2 date did.

I'm amused people who have apparently "waited 5 years" can't sit and wait a week or two. I very much doubt those who claim they are not going to buy the game are really going to commit to that.

I'm honest enough with myself to admit that I won't be canceling my pre-order, as much as I want to after PD's antics. Sadly if I'm sticking to just PS3, GT5 will still be the default choice for the overall requirements I want from a racing game.

The delay won't be for additional content, its too close to release for them to be altering the content of the game (or at least, adding to). I'm pretty sure the car sounds will be epic anyway ;).

Epically bad? Probably, it's a GT tradition, after all.

Someone needs to be installed in a position of power above Kaz. For all the whinging around here about T10's head guy and some of the stuff he spews, Kaz' "it's basically done, we can release at any time" or "90%" comments are just as bad. Someone needs to keep him on a short leash and surround him with the Webster's definition of "deadline". Make it his phone's background image, his PC, make his alarm clock a spoken definition every day. Whatever.

The fact we might actually get Duke Nukem Forever before GT5 does have me laughing way more than expected. So uh, thanks PD!

Of course, its all PD's fault and not anyone elses? I like how everyone assumes to know what goes on at PD, who is to blame and why the delays happen. You don't have a clue, really, just quit trying to find reasons and just take it how it is - a simple delay that obviously isn't going to be a long one. (its pretty obvious the game is effectively finished considering the mass of screenshots, trailers and news about the game plus all the marketing...)

If people are cancelling orders because they think PD are lazy/"can't stick to deadlines", then like I say, good ridance as clearly they didn't play many of the previous Gran Turismo games...as the evidence is to the contrary.

Funny people claim this as repeated delays, when really this has been the first delay for anyone except Japan. Delayed expectations maybe, but then people's expectations on this forum are wildly unrealistic.

We are pro waiters and jailbreak is not that bad for Sony, the problem is that GT5 is produced by Sony so GT5 has to be like a fortress,so it can only by played by an original PS3.

Sony makes their money in the PS3 game world from licensing fees paid by every company that wants their game released on the PS3. They aren't only concerned with first party sales. This is one of the reasons jailbreak is that bad for Sony. I doubt that the jailbreak thing has anything to do with the delay of GT5 unless they're waiting to push through a system update and release GT5 right after that update in a form that requires the PS3 to have that update installed. That'd be a really lame reason for delaying the game, though.

I'm going to cancel my pre-order of the collectors edition today. As it seems GT5 will now come out after my bucks party which was a big reason I was getting it, as I wanted to do some split screen races at the end of the day.

I'm going to pick up Halo: Reach instead, good work PD. I may buy GT5 later down the track but I'm really annoyed at a game getting delayed 3 weeks before it was due out. I've never had this happen to me ever when pre-ordering games so close to the launch date.

Nothing can make some people happy here it seems. If it's not a delay to fix something they found that wasn't up to their standard, it's going to be something in the game to get pissed about that will make you ask the question "Why didn't they fix this?"

Here's my take on this, it's a quote I heard at school while studying 3D modeling for gaming and film:

It takes just as long to get to 80% quality, as it does to get that last 20%.

I believe it was late last year Kaz said in an interview that the game was at 90%. If that was the case, then there was atleast a year left in production, if the game took about 3 years to get to 80%. It's easy to make it look good, but it's hard work that makes it look fantastic, which is what we all want in the end. I appreciate everything PD has done so far, and as an artist, I am VERY impressed with how this game looks given the resources they are limited to with the PS3. Yes, I say limited, because with the quality they are producing, I'd usually expect to only see this perform on better computers, and or see this somewhere else other than realtime gaming.

Just an FYI there have been two firmware updates since the jailbreak came out. Both of them break the jailbreak. The problem is you can just opt not to get those updates and not connect your PS3 to PSN thus keeping yoru jailbreak intact.

Currently MOH has come out with a requirement to be 3.42 or higher (these are the non jailbreak firmwares) however as with PSP it's looking possible to strip that requirement out of the game. If successful it won't have the effect desired of forcing people to upgrade to a newer firmware.

It's entirely possible Sony are waiting to see what happens with MOH, whether the forced updaete can be removed, or even perhaps they are working on an unremovable forced firmware update more securely embedeed than MOH. Maybe they are working on a trick like Coemasters did with TOCA 3 on the original Xbox.

Or maybe nothing to do with jailbreak protection... anythings possible.

My peronal speculation is jailbreak protection though.
