The Ferrari 458 Italia would have been a single car. How hard is that to add in? The Nurburgring would have been a single track. How hard is that to add in? Point is, you are completely missing the point about what this download is all about.

I don't think anyone has ever missed the point as much as you just have. The download is about GT Academy which Nissan sponsor and the track relate to the NTSC prize (Indianapolis 500).

If this demo is just Prologue graphics and with the lack of damage etc etc, why didn't they just make this an update to Prologue rather than a whole new demo?

As you can see from many of the screenshots and videos, the time trial demo is specifically labelled as "Nissan GT Academy". Everyone should be able to give it a shot, also those not owning a copy of GT5:P. That's the idea behind this marketing stunt, for Sony, PD and maybe most important Nissan.

It has been confirmed that the time trial "mini game" is running on the latest GT engine, which has been redone from scratch.

Of course, everyone has his or hers own views on "graphics" but both the artistic style of GT and the overall quality of all details coming together (judging from the HQ videos) seems to be of a very high standard - again.

Maybe it's that you are simply too familiar with the high standard of visuals? You almost make it sound "Prologue" graphics are outdated.

I for one still enjoy GT4 for it's overall look, it even holds up pretty well compared to next gen standards if you don't take the lower resolution into account.

Besides the Marketing stuff, and getting people hooked before releasing the full game etc, there is a lot of info that can be gathered from this free demo to polish and finalize GT5, with a huge number of users, way more than GT5P owners, for instance:

- server load and performance
- new game engine and physics feedback

Fair points.:) I forgot about the whole free thing.:sly: But let's be honest, if someone doesn't already own Prologue and play it often, their chances at GT Academy are actually pretty slim. But at least they'll be getting hooked on the game like yas said.

ROM if you don't mind, can you tell us or make quick video of all OPTIONS in GT5 demo? I wonder what is under hardware options and controls to see if anything changed.

Fixed
Here is a deep menu tour from the demo... It covers all the menus: sound, video, controller, hardware, etc.

Servers are currently down for maintenance, so I'm unable to play the time trial to give you more gameplay, sorry guys.

Sorry to differ again with you Paulie ;)

A talented race driver may very well perform in a video game. Though I wouldn't think of it being true the other way round.

Now Jake Humphrey from BBC Sports doing a race on Silverstone this year springs to my mind. Search youtube for some footage and see how he fared. Not quite the same as the GT Academy, but I hope it gets my point across nevertheless. ;)

(...)But let's be honest, if someone doesn't already own Prologue and play it often, their chances at GT Academy are actually pretty slim.(...)

Indeed! Owning a wheel may will be a big advantage too.

Edit: Race drivers aren't allowed to enter, or am I wrong?

There's one thing I can't understand for the life of me. If this demo is just Prologue graphics and with the lack of damage etc etc, why didn't they just make this an update to Prologue rather than a whole new demo?:odd: They've updated Prologue physics before, plus then we'd get to sample our current cars on the new track and maybe even have had online races there.

As mentioned it will available for everyone with a PS3, but also they can control some items better too. For example removal of clutch use, the ability to use the G27 paddles and without thourogh testing which would be much more extensive with all those extra cars and layout (drift, TT, single race (AI) ) possibilties, testing time which can be reserved for full GT5.

Fair points. But let's be honest, if someone doesn't already own Prologue and play it often, their chances at GT Academy are actually pretty slim. But

Lucas Ordonez stated he only bought GT5P and a wheel (G25) after he read about GT Academy in a magazine, meaning he started it with no prior GT5P experience and won the GT Academy anyway.

Edit: Race drivers aren't allowed to enter, or am I wrong?

Well yeah, no National or International racing license holders allowed

Yes its much easier and fair to release it separate. They'd have to block G25 from GT5p but they don't want change the game that much as its still a game on its own with people still playing. Also many have trouble downloading these updates from PD.

Another thing is the DSG mod on the G25 that circumvents clutch operation and no need to remove your right foot off throttle for a flat-shift. People with stock G25s and using the clutch and throttle properly are cheated too.

PD know about DFP and stock G25 guys moaning. Not sure if they can address the DSG mod or allow flat shifting but that's for future GT5 concerns.

The rules state that anyone with a "national or international race licence" are excluded from participation in the GT Academy, does anyone know if this only applies to a track racing licence? Or does it include all sorts of motorsport, like rallying? Please, don't exclude me....! ;)

Oh so that's how that guy was shifting without removing his foot from the gas pedal. I tired to do that too but it wouldn't shift if I didn't let the gas pedal go. Turns out the guy was cheating :grumpy:

its not cheating you can and i do shift like that in real life

I don't... besides the transmission, clutch, tires, etc not liking that, you get wheel spin up until 3rd, and the jolt makes the car get unbalanced and go off the race line when cornering. And the game does not replicate those issues, so flat or power shifting without those, is cheating.

Now, if you're street racing an underpowered diesel... preferably a rental... that's a whole different story.

Yeah but the game doesn't allow you to. I'm not saying they are right not allowing you to, I'm just saying they don't. Modding your wheel to reduce pedal noise is one thing, but modding it to do something the game doesn't let you do is cheating.

Nor you should. There's no such thing as a miracle. It's still running on the same console and people expect it to look a lot better without any performance issues. Seriously...

I don't think the amount of cars has anything to do with screen tearing, so its not going to get any worse.

@Dravonic I don't and didn't expect GT5 to look better than GT5P, just to have a better performance.

@GMTN In GT5P performance depends on cars, why shouldn't it?

Well actually, it does. What I find interesting though is how on GT5P the performance is nearly the same with a few cars and a full field so it shouldn't be a big problem.

Yes, expecting much more would be unrealistic. How much more optimization can they do to make it better on the same hardware?

I think what they did is pretty awesome already and I for one would even trade a couple FPS if that could allow for (even) better physics.

Edit: or more cars...

If the demo will be released at 9am in the UK, that means it will be available here in Australia at 8pm (Eastern Daylight Savings Time). PSN usually updates on early Friday's here though...

I hope it's true, cause that would mean we get it one day earlier than expected.

Fair enough. The way I see it they had two options: making it look a bit better or diminishing the performance issues. Looks like they went with the former and I actually liked it. I don't mind some tearing and frame drops when the game looks that good.
