No the car models are the same, they seem to look better because the lighting engine is more complex in the showroom/landscapes. Polycount and textures dont change.
Unfortunately you are wrong... Polycount is different during gameplay/replay but it's done with some strange way. Some cars look 100% the same like in showroom (Ferraris, cars from Spec III and a few other cars), some look almost the same, some a bit worse (Audi R8, Honda NSX and many more) and some look hideously (for example Suzuki Cappucino.. well only it's back).
Here's a pic I made some time ago...

Of course it's from Prologue. Maybe (I hope so) in full GT5 in-game models will be like showroom ones, or at least durng replays (30fps) they should be "showroom LOD".

These pics were missing in the last press kit, thanks.
They always forget to put 3-4 images in the sets, so annoying.

EDIT: Meh, no 1080p versions available.
I hate that.

EDIT2:

That LOD effect appears when the cars are further away, the Cappu isnt that blocky all the time, i wouldve noticed that.

Amazing shots as always..

Headlights need work? --- REALLY? What are your standards, because other titles get perfect marks even better than get for graphics with a quarter of the detail.

Standards is one thing, but being unrealistic about those standards is another.

Incredible visuals.

It was bad when we didn't have any info now its even worse. . I can't stand waiting for it and these photos aren't helping. They are just making us want it even more.

Damn this game is going to be great.

p.s More work on the headlights Bogie are you browsing from a phone?!?!?!!?!?

Well... in fact it is. This car is very close to the camera. I checked many cars in many different places (tracks, views) and it's true that some cars look poor during race/replay :/

Btw. Great new pics! :)

HID are turned on, on that G37 by the way, Makes me wonder why the player car always has the Head lights on..

Amazing how you can even see the Carbon fiber stitching/weave on the edge of the hood..

I think we have a reached a point of this gen, Where this is as good as graphics go. Because these visuals are creeping into Next generation of systems quality.

My friend who went to sema took some pictures of the car in Gameplay in chase mode, And you would not believe the Detail in game mode(I have not seen the pictures). But he said it's not just replay or show room models that look phenomenal The in game car's are pushing the PS3 to new height's. He also Said that the Tokyo Track is extremely detailed.
While driving he also caught sight of what looked to be a Ford escort Cosworth, But he had to leave before he could identify it any further. But he did put the replay camera on the civic, With the HUD on, it had a Boost gauge, So that confirms that the tuned civic is turbo, And aparently theres different rim colors.

And that's all he saw.

It just looks so clean and shiny. Maybe add some smudge or dirt, or roughness, you know what I mean, realistic textures . And I hope they can also show wheel deformation and dirt

What you are asking for is: "Realism" ;) My friend, They are beyond that... :)

Remember that Kaz and PD are standing by this motto:

"GT5 > Real" !

Which mean they are going for Perfection...

Go take a trip to Japan whenever you can, you will see that their entire country is super clean and pure... This is a Japanese philosophy... They want things to be simple clean and perfect... GT5 being developed in Japan by Japaneses, telling them to do otherwise would be sort of against their nature...

They are Samurais... not Cowboys 👍

Blue windshield+blue headlights. I had a feeling that'd we be able to customize those eventually.
maybe, maybe not, but that pic doesn't prove we can or can't. That's a real car, the winner of last years (I think) SEMA show and that's how it should be on that car.

After Kazunori having said we can customize every imaginable part, I think it's highly likely. I can only hope right now, but the pics seem very revealing. They're not for nothing.

How is a pic of a real car, looking like the real car revealling anything other than that car is in GT5 and look slike it does in real life? The Skyline D1GP car in GT4 had neons underneath it, why? Because the real car did. Could we put neons under all the cars in GT4? No. Infact we couldn't put them on any car, they were only there on that car becasue it really had them.

Like I said, these features may be in and they may not be in, but baseless assumptions are not good. Besides, I won't lose any sleep if I can't give the headlights and windows of my virtual TVR Tuscan a blue tint.

What Dave said, plus that Yamauchi didnt say we (as in "the players") but they (as in "the devs") can change every part, if im not mistaken.

If you consider how little GT4 left the gamer to customize and tune cars, then GT5 should be 1,000% better in those categories. I really cannot envision GT5 having a GTAuto as weak as GT4's and I cannot imagine GT5's tuning shop to be as similar to GT4 and all other GT titles. In 5 years, it ought to play out this way and not just in my mind.

Damn, I never knew that. :embarrassed: You learn something new every day.

I do agree that there should be a lot more visual customisation options available in GT5; spoilers, hoods and especially more aftermarket rims. Nothing ridiculous though, I couldn't care less about neon lights for example. ;)

That's just reflection, possibly from the sky making it blue. Things that are "shiny" will tend to do that. I highly doubt they were colored via customization.
