Thanks for the summary, if you read in between the lines you can see that this won't be your typical GT game, and that their engine has been constantly improving as they better understand the PS3.

Some adroit member mentioned that GT5 could almost be considered GT6 with all the work Kaz and the team put into the game and their new engine, and I can almost see that. GT3 was a superb looking game, but I'm not sure it was the best looking game on the PS2 when it came out. GT5... it's pretty safe to say, is the best looking game on PS3.

killzone 2, lbp, and gt5p are all around the same graphics to me. honestly i think flower destroys all 3 of those games in the graphics category

Had to google what was "flower PS3"... but I think a "gorgeously crafted fable" would have to be "smother" and better looking than a fast pacing racing/driving simulation :)

It seems strange KY isn't saying much on the PS3 and the technical aspects of GT5, you know, like how they are utilizing the processors, how much GT5 uses, etc.

i was just talking about graphics. i was not saying it was a better game, or better in the design department. flower is just beautiful.

I believe you may be confusing artistic vision with graphics. It is artistically beautiful, but never once do I think it looks like real flower petals.

I got a question, did anyone see a video where someone looked around the car on his right? For example, like in the past GTA games, you pressed R2 and you got a side-view.

I remember seeing someone do it with the Subaru on the demo back in the TGS days.

Can anyone confirm this? It was on one of the videos around the net, I swear I saw it.

I just want to know if it was actually included.

Do you mean, if you are driving in the in-car view you can look out the side of the car?

If so, both Prologue and the new time trial challenge do that.

No, I mean with the standard camera where you see the whole car in front.
I can test it later tonight, but I would assume that if it does do it then the controls would be the same as looking around from the interior view.

Official video of GT SEMA award 2009:

(Sorry if someone's already posted it.)

I'm in love with the JR's G37, it will be one of my first purchases in GT5, i look forward for the '70 Mustang too.;)

Maybe it will appear in GT6, but iirc it's already confirmed for GT5 or maybe that was only 2008 winner. A slip of the tongue hopefully.

I hope Mr. Kazunori Yamauchi can give me a Christmas present --- more information about GT5!
I will report if there's any new information.

This video isn't news, indeed rather dated, but it features Translator Dude doing some serious pen and paper Kung Fu and I simply had to watch this again.

Oh, and it almost slipped my attention what Kazunori had to say about why releasing GT5:P instead of the next GT in 2008

"If we made the full version of GT5, it would have taken probably until 2010 (!) and it had already been four years since we released GT4 and I wouldn't want to make anyone wait any longer. And we wanted to make a product in-between we can show to people."

Enjoy, until there is hopefully some more proper news on GT5.

A nice preview from ps3m.de

A couple of pictures I think I have never seen, the others are recycled from the TGS demo.

Time for a test run…

The time is limited: March 2010. That is the month, in which you will see the first time in your life contact with TV-pictures in true High definition quality. Pictures of a brilliance, a purity and a clarity, as you did not see it yet. There are already these pictures. To see on the occasion of a visit in Tokyo, with the play manufacturer Polyphony digital. The 40-Zoll-Fernseher in the presentation area throws impressions against, which rob the breath from you to you. This radiating chrome, these wonderful roundnesses at the car, how it supply floats over the menu screen screen! Even if you have only one millilitre gasoline in the blood, then this sight, this sharpness, this precision packs you. It buds reverence. May look so genuine? Incomprehensibly, how far video game diagram developed in the last years. We speak here of a completely new universe. That looks better here than reality. That is” Gran Turismo 5 “.

A man is responsible named Kazunori Yamauchi. It is the boss with Polyphony, the head behind the” Gran Turismo “- row. A man, who realizes its passion. Also which concerns the reality degree of its newest creation. ” The reality is complex and multilayered, often hardly seizablly. We experience that again and again, if we go raus on the racing course and photos from cars to shoot. The reality looks nearly never perfectly. But there are these rare moments, where the sun is located in the ideal angle, and sounds clouds the light orange. For a short instant you have this wonderful scenery, these perfect aesthetics. We work hard to catch exactly these moments in the play. We want to show the whole world in their most beautiful moments. “

One of the defaults for each” Gran Turismo “- Game is since always that she shows cars from her shining side. The passion should be noticeable. ” Cars as perfectly as possible porträtieren, that regard I as a very much more meaningful employment of computer graphics, as if we wanted to only imitate the reality “. Can it be that this devotion is responsible for the damage model which is missing so far in the” Gran Turismo “- to row? So that nobody must endure dents in its expensive Schätzchen? Rather technical and license-legal reasons actually stand behind it. The automakers did not want to see of their vehicles, scratched to it had themselves Polyphony so far to hold. Now, the automobile industry learns approximately twelve years after the first” Gran Turismo “in addition. She knows that many humans wish themselves the ride in a certain car only after they drove thereby into” Gran Turismo “. This running simulation is a power station, a legend - a label name, which sells cars. Automakers recognize slowly that their products must emerge with” Gran Turismo “. They show up ready to compromise and permit to show their creations in a surrounding field which does not correspond to ideal yardsticks. Accidents are permitted, sheet metal may deform.

Large feelings
On the occasion of a test run with” Gran Turismo 5 “invite thus risky maneuvers to trying out. Purely into the wall, already `s tears the door off and hangs loosely in the hinges. A few cars ram and sometime say good-bye turn signals, headlights, which strike front apron tree ELT scarcely over the road, spark. Whether the handling other thereby damage, or only their exterior takes to vehicles? Unclearly. With the own carriage the accident sequences are anyhow noticeable. The more outside damage to recognize is, the more badly drives themselves the carriage. Feels well? Now, naturally one would like again to be rather driven its car as: precisely in the handling, directly and agil reacting to guidance instructions. `Does s need thus at all a damage model? Anyhow” Gran Turismo 5 “moves close thereby more near to the reality and feels differently. You must collisions more precisely drive, must avoid, because it carries you with contact more easily from the trace and you from the course kreiselst. You may not use no more in brake zones the tail of the Vorausfahrenden than buffer-stop, because you missed your own brake point. Make less broken - is called at the same time to make itself familiar inevitably more with the peculiarities of the 800 wonderful dream cars. With AMG Mercedes and the Ferrari 458 for example, only two copies from an almost unüberblickbar broadly diversified vehicle pallet. Kleinstwagen and formula racer covers exactly the same as that aufgemotzten 1970er-Mustang, which was distinguished on 7 November on the US-Tuningshow SEMA von Kazunori Yamauchi personally with the title” Best in show “.

The article is incomplete compared with the scans, missing the interview with K.Y. and other parties.
If some German user can provide a better translation and/or translate what is missing, I think that would make a great favor to all.:D

Thanks for the links.

There's no real news in the article, it rather reads as it was compiled from various sources and has no genuine feel to it. I'll have a coffee and add the more interesting bits, but it's not that good a read unfortunately.

"Passion und Hingabe"

Passion and Dedication

Kazunori says he can't get the Lexus IS-F Touringcar out of his mind, how it felt being in charge of the car, becoming one with the car. Feeling every bump through the steering.
He would really like to do another game (genre), no plans but lots of ideas. Gran Turismo is his life, but he assumes he has missed something during all these years been dedicated to GT.

"Unter vier Augen - Der Gran.Turismo-Mann"

"In private: Mister Gran Turismo"

(free translation)

Trivia: Born on the 5th of August, 1967. Married, one child. Is said to be a geek, petrol head. His private garage consists of VW Golf, Nissan Z350 (yes: Z350), Nissan GT-R, Porsche GT3 and Merc SL55 AMG.

Kazunori states that in the beginning with GT, they were very non-mainstream with the concept.

It's one of the big surprises of his career that by now he's surrounded by games that want to be like GT.

In the 12 years of developing GT the consumer taste and market have changed, and while they set out to do something different, they now found themselves to be mainstream.

They do look at other games and different genres at PD, but Kazunori concentrates his observations on "What aspects the developers have concentrated on? This detail wasn't of much interest to them. They were very dedicated to that aspect." - "I want to learn which philosophies had an influence on other games."

Well, not really that much news, other than you can transfer cars from the PS3 GT to GT:PSP (yepp, that way round they claim), comments on the damage model, the 1970 Mustang from the SEMA being in the game, and so forth.

They close with the release date being probably Summer 2010 (EU), and that was about it.
