Early plans saying 2008, my personal opinion is we have GT5 in March 2010 in our PS3's. But this time prologue has content download ability and it will shorten the waiting time.
Wow, where did you get 2010 from? As Christmas 2008 was the last date given, and that was likely Japan, most people are thinking early 2009.

We've already had the usual one year delay.

Yes, Christmas 2008 in japan, March 2009 in Europe would be nice. But regarding all the delays from past GT's, I am just put up with 2010 and I say it again, it's just my opinion :)

Red Baron, giving the usual delays with GT games (and having been an avid fan since Gran Turismo 1), I think your speculation is indeed plausible, however, as you rightly pointed out Prologue can be updated via downloads, the same could lead to an early 2009 GT5 release with downloaded content added.

GT4 was a massively big game in every way (with the exception of PS2 power limiting us to those darn 6 cars). When GT3 came out we had less than 200 cars due to next generation meaning car models taking longer. With this in mind (and with downloaded content for PS3), I would hazard a guess that we will be limited to between 150 and 250 cars even for the full blown GT5, with more added later.

This is all well and good, but if we are limited too much in tracks and cars, and having to pay for downloaded packs, how much will the final price of GT5 really be compared to GT4.

Makes you wonder.

Nah, prologue has 70 cars and I dont think thats taken long to do. GT5 I guess will have 400-500+ maybe even more than GT4 at 700+ as im sure its been said GT5 will have all the cars of GT4..and more.

I felt the same about limited cars in GT5 until I keep hearing otherwise.

Topgear editors were apparently told to expect around 900 cars in GT5 (according to the article in their website).
Also Taku Imasaki from SCEA in a interview has said GT5 will be around GT4's scale.

and with 70+ cars in GT5P I am thinking we are going to have a large selection for GT5, but we will see.

Not questioning your opinion. I was just curious how you came about 2010, as I haven't heard anyone else say that, yet.

Honestly I wish PD or Sony would announce how much we can expect in DLC. I think I would be rather put off if I paid $60 and got anything less than 300-400 cars and then had almost as many end up being purchasable DLC.

I am hoping this long wait is due to them trying to get the initial purchase to be as complete as GT4.

Part of what keeps me coming back to GT4 is that I see a small car that I had never thought of driving before and decide to check it out. If I end up liking it I wind up going into this OCD state to get the most out of the tuning as I can. If I had to pay real dollars I would be less likely to just snag some car I hadn't heard of or considered previously.

Fingers crossed that cars will not be done with micro-transaction DLC.

IT says 120 people were working on Prologue, whats to say there hasnt been 500 working on GT5 during that time?

i was EXTREMELY surprised to hear that they jumped from the already realistic 5k polygon models to the insane 200k models... thats gonna be... words cant even describe what its gonna be... gran turismo is making its way to the point where you might as well go out and drive a real car on a real track because there is almost no diff between the game and reality...

Believe me, the adrenaline rush isn't quite as good on video games then the real thing. lol

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but I found it interesting. It's a semi-old article from Motor Trend:

On track modeling:

Gran Turismo software designers typically spend at least one week at the track capturing data. Most of this is spent taking measurements, capturing hours of video, and taking up to 80,000 photos.
- The team uses architectural plans and blue prints to build the track model.
- Afterwards, it takes the team at least one year to graphically model the track.
- Yamauchi claims the accuracy of his teams track topography is +/- 1 cm.
- The Nurburgring took them a month to do, because all measurements had to be taken at night, when the road was not in use. During the day, they shot all the photos.
- Yamauchi claims most car manufacturers do not have the level of information they have on certain tracks.

On crash damage:

- GT5 Prologue will not support crash damage, although it is in their future plans.
- Given the time and expense they go to to make sure even the smallest details are accurate, you can understand why crash damage is such a massive undertaking. (Consider that there isn't a lot of data about crashing a Ferrari 599 at 150mph. How would you find out what the fender does, without crashing one?)
- Accurate damage simulation is Yamauchi's dream.

On what [Kaz would] like to be able to do in Gran Turismo that he can't do now:

"There are many many things we'd still like to work on - that we can't get our heads around - but let's say in real life, you're driving and you hit a thunderstorm and suddenly it starts raining. And then it clears up. Sun is coming through the clouds. The car in front of you is creating a water screen and sun rays are hitting it. Not just the weather aspect, but the replication of that - you know, the waterscreen that the car in front of you creates, and the way it sparkles. Things like that."

On the new cars:
- Ferrari is in.
- Porsche - still not.
- Lamborghini - maybe.
- Formula 1 cars are still not even a remote possibility (Thanks Bernie!)

I'd like to know where Bernie got his facts...

I love some of the mods on the tuned cars, that Lanxer Evo 8 (I think) looks great so does the widened Cappuccino. I wonder how these body mods will work into GT5. Will they be premade packages or will you buy each part individually.

Just installed GT5P. Also installed the update (spec II). Only 1 problem, on my Page the date is wrong. System date is oke. Any thoughts???

PS. Stunning game. Just bought the GT40.....quite a beast to tame.

Set your system for updating time from internet in system settings.

GT40 is only GT in fact, because Ford sold it's name to save himself in poor times. But it's a beast. It's torque is shaking with back even when downshifting to 3rd gear and it's sound is magnificent. And the game is very enjoyable.
